Wow, that’s a crappy piece to add to the laws. Our cars are just about 10 years old, I’d be pissed if someone stole them, made them “inoperable” and sold them for scrap metal.
The lawmaker who changed the law which made it legal to sell a nonfunctioning vehicle 10 years or older without a title (instead of 20 years) with the intent to make it easier for rural landowners to dispose of derelict vehicles abandoned on their property, and then says they are blaming him in error, seems to have a screw loose.
sounds like mr elmer needs a reality check. these are the people we need to get out of office. there are too many of these crackpots getting into office and making a mess of the world we live in. we need some good honest people and not just those with money and looking for a lifetime income they do not need to be elected to office. Real people — not these eletists who think they rule the world and the people in it. What a joke!
Considering that 10 years or older is only back to 2002 and a number of insureds keep cars older then that makes this particular law a bit of an issue.

Exactly, Caffiend. Especially with the current economy, people are holding on to their vehicles longer. Of course, wealthy lawmakers tend to have newer vehicles, and would therefore not be affected by this law. How convenient. Unscrupulous salvage dealers (who also tend to be wealthy and well-connected) can make out like bandits on this. Pun intended.

I live just outside St. Louis, about 11 miles. My wife and I drive cars that are 7 & 9 years old. While our cars haven’t been stolen, we’ve had them broken into several times in the last two years. Kids from St. Louis come out to our area (O’Fallon, MO), bust out the windows and will steal anything they can find. The only protection is to keep your car in the garage at all times. We’ve been home and had our cars broken into in broad daylight. St. Louis is not only a dirty city, it is a dangerous city. The only quality thing we have to offer anyone is our baseball team, and Lord knows you can’t park in half the lots downtown when going to a game. The people working security there will rob you blind.
I can’t believe this. It makes me sick to my stomach that these blacks from north St. Louis city (and it’s not racist when you can back it up with fact) can get away with auto theft on so many occasions, scott-free. Why is this so hard to grasp and understand, people? Do we not depend on intellect these days, or do we just continue to let this happen? Ridiculous!
