Perhaps we should target the perpetrators who bullied this young man and charge them with crimes such as assault, battery, and criminal misconduct. I wish that the coach, superintendent, and principal had been able to prevent this tragedy. Not knowing both sides, we have no way to determine who (as an adult) could or should be held culpable. That is what the courts will hopefully determine.
When do the parents take responsibility? I know that if my child were being bullied to this extent AND I knew about it, they wouldnt be going to school there. It’s time the parents stop trying to blame everyone else, be in touch with your kids, and do what you can to protect them. I know we can’t do everything but I think they can do more…This was a kid from a broken home, i wonder when was the last time this dad had even seen his kid???
I agree with you wholeheartedly. While this is a sad situation, blaming the film (???) I was bullied (as a teenage girl)- I was fat, smart and in the band. Even guys would pick on me -sometimes physically. I made it through- I guess my question is WHY don’t these kids stand up for themselves? And yes, parents on BOTH sides (bullies and bullied) need to take some reponsibility as well. This is not a ‘nice’ ‘kind’ world- and life is not easy. If this child could not handle these stressors how would he handle life AFTER school?
I removed my stepson from the school where he was being bullied, but not before giving the principal a piece of my mind. He called the police on me. The next time it happened, my stepson took care of it. They were both suspended, but I was proud of him for standing up to the bully. It stopped after that.

My Oldest Gr Son steps up and handles things for his brothers and for my Gr daughter when necessary. It was only necessary one time. Bully gets bullied he stops bullying.

I pulled my daughter out of school and my wife home schooled her the last two years of high schol due to bullying. She was not part the “in” clique of all the kids with money, BMW’s and the latest clothes and shoes. I tend to agree with the breadth of the suit being way too wide but your comments don’t seem appropriate, IMHO.
Seems the only thing bullys respond to are being bullied themselves. Eye for an Eye is usually not the best solution, but in my Gr Sons case, it worked like a champ.

I let my daughter transfer from a private school to a public school because the bullying at the private school was ignored. Go figure.
