Most of these homes not in flood zones. Much of flooding the result of storm sewer systems that failed – – pump houses not in working order, etc. So issue was often sewer back up rather than flood waters.
I understand that Detroit has some of the poorest utilities in the nation and cannot even supply water to many of their residents. All that money stolen by politicians over the year was obviously not used to improve or fix sewers, water mains etc.
Even if they had flood insurance, most of losses would not have been covered. What they needed was a rider providing coverage for water and sewer backup. Of course, had the pump houses been working, most of the roads would not have flooded as severely, nor would sewer systems have failed. There are houses that have been dry since being built in the 40’s that experienced knee deep black water in the basements. So many agents probably didn’t see the need to offer the backup rider. Oops!!
True, the sewer back-up should be added to every homeowners policy, but it still only gives a small sub-limit like $25k. Still, I suppose it’s better than nothing.
The people of Detroit never even heard of Flood Insurance. Will Obama rescue them again?
This could be literally a “bail” out.
What’s flood insurance?

Maybe Rick Perry can help when he gets out of Prison in 109 years.
I agree, Agent. Policiticians all over the country need to spend on infrastructure, instead of giving free handouts to the rich.
