Keep chasing legislation and raising those premiums at the tune of the bands director… The Doctors and Hospital charges that are outrageous. There comes a point where we say.. We can’t afford the doctors and hospitals any longer, and I believe we are getting there now. $15.00 for a Tylenol, maybe we should have some legislation on that. We blame every entity except the top of the food chain.. The care costs!

It’s going to get to the point where it’s going to effect the automotive industry because a lot of people can not afford the car insurance. The car payment, no problem but when the insurance is double, sometimes triple the car note and the combination of them both tops out over $1,000 a month, it’s going to be a problem. This was the number one reason why this year me and my wife bought a used car instead of financing a brand new one. Can’t afford the insurance anymore. Perhaps Ford Motor’s PAC and GM’s PAC both need to start looking at this when endorsing and contributing to state legislative candidates?

Some the high cost is also driven by malpractice insurance costs. A couple of years ago I talked with one of my senators about health insurance reform (he is a surgeon) and he said that revamping medical malpractice lawsuits would be high on his list of reforms. Doctors practice medicine to not be sued, I worked in the medical field for 20 years and saw this first hand.

insurance has to be priced so the vast majority can afford to purchase at least minimal coverage, and at the same time spread the risk with critical mass. with wage stagnation and medical costs inflation, under no fault rules this is not the case in mich anymore

as the article states the insurers pretty much pay 100% of charges in an auto accident – unfair to the people paying the insurance prems

•Create a more transparent entity to replace the Michigan Catastrophic Claims Association, which is funded with a $186 per vehicle.

Why is Michigan the only state to require this payment? All of the other states have not needed this fund. Insurance rates are too high already compared to the surrounding states.

Michigan is the only state to require this payment because Michigan is the only state with unlimited no-fault benefits. Other states do not need this fund because the benefits that can be paid from an auto policy are limited and can be budgeted for more easily.

If the MCCA fund did not exist, the annual fee would simply be rolled into the coverage you pay for your PIP benefits (and possibly be even higher due to the increased risk once the upper layer is no longer pooled).

Me and my wife gave up with purchasing new cars. Just can’t afford it no more. I understand it’s also partially law suit attorneys who are at fault for this too for suing everyone and their brother for dumb mundane reasons and getting massive settlements. That’s why I favor allowing the insurance companies to cap the payouts. Can’t afford it no more cause they will just pass the costs onto the rest of us. It’s not their fault the legislature enacted these unlimited benefit laws. We moved out of Detroit because the car payment and insurance payment was more then our rent. It’s a scam. They pass these laws that cause the insurance rates to sky rocket then pass another law that says you are required to buy the crap or risk jail time? Really? It’s no different then Obama Care. Pass a bunch of laws to jack the rates up then pass another law that says you have to buy it or risk fines and jail time.

This has nothing to do with saving anybody money in their insurance premium.

    **Michigan annual premium $1110.61

    **National average $911.56

Difference of 50 cents a day!!!

I’d prefer they just sent me a refund for what my tax dollars paid for “years of working on this”. Would have been farther ahead if they just punched out for the day and shut the lights off when they left.

I wish we had higher PIP minimums in KY. $10K doesn’t cover much when claims are paid at 100%. Added PIP is only available to the driver. I get that the Michigan plan is very expensive, and I wouldn’t like paying more, but to have all my medical claims paid without a hassle, and to have services approved by the PIP carrier would have gone so much smoother for me. Switching to your health insurance is better than nothing, but a total pain.

Just my random thoughts after racking up over $250K in medical expenses.

I am a Medical Massage Therapist in the state of Michigan and I see catastrophic patients who’s injuries have changed the course of their lives forever. Taking away their benefits is taking away their quality of life…period. Trust me when I say, you aren’t going to see your rates go down…corporate is too greedy and if you do see them go down it won’t be enough to warrant this kind of tragic transition. It’s like saying those that have catastrophic injuries don’t deserve to live (although that wouldn’t surprise me in this day and age). When government makes promises to save us money by taking something away…you are getting screwed…case closed.

Honestly I think they should drop the requirement to have insurance. Force these companies to compete for the business. Most of the people that cause the accidents are not insured or are already high risk so why do the rest of us have to pay for them?

    Is this guy serious?
“The best approach to bringing down insurance rates in Michigan is to take costs out of the system,” said the legislation’s sponsor, Senate Insurance Committee Chairman Joe Hune.

How about the best approach being to cap the profit margin of insurance companies who are making a 32% return.
Lets get honest and serious about where “reform” is needed

Michigan auto insurance is a joke! it’s a huge ripoff! I’m 54 yrs old not had a accident or even a ticket since 2001!! and the CHEAPEST insurance ”FULL COVERAGE” is 8,000 DOLLARS a year! that’s insane! I own a 1991 ACURA NSX! I guess that’s apart of my PROBLEM! LOL

Yup. That sounds about right. Well you know Knight, you have to pay for those unlimited life time benefits for someone who sued their insurance company for a broken arm and some how got an attorney to convince a jury they are no longer able to work for the rest of their life. That’s the exact reason why people simply put insurance on their cars long enough to plate it, then dump the insurance afterwards.

Well @John, prices are going down a little for me, my AAA agent gave he a quote for a 6 month policy for $1981.95 that’s for full coverage and a $2.000 deductible. The main reason why MY insurance is so high is because I’m on medicare. so it’s not ALL CAR insurance, it’s HEALTH insurance lol

My last rant, ANYONE foolish enough to believe the politicians especially the REPUBLICAN politicians in michigan give a DAMN about us po folks, then you’re delusional! the insurance companies OWN michigan! the insurance companies don’t give a DAMN about it’s policy holders! they’re worried about losing profits! they’ve raised rates so high freaking high, I’m willing to bet 4 out of 10 michigan drivers don’t even have car insurance! Think about it! your car note is 300 dollars a month and your car insurance is 250 dollars a month! and gasoline is over 3 dollars a gallon!! BTW take a DAMN good look at our ROADS!!! Viet Nam has better looking roads!! The USA is turning into a 3rd world country!! Thanks koch brothers!
