Insure.com has issued a report, “Hidden Rivers of Incentive: How Agent Commissions Affect Your Insurance Shopping,” telling consumers how insurance agents are provided incentive through commissions, cash bonuses and other rewards.
The report lists a sampling of agent commissions paid by major insurance companies and current and former agents speak frankly about how commissions can lead to conflicts of interest with their customers.
“While agents have every right to earn a living, the lure of fat commission checks and other perks could lead an agent to sell you an insurance policy that you really don’t need,” said Joe Frey, senior editor of Insure.com.
