W.R. Berkley Corp. has appointed William C. Thornton president of Acadia Insurance Company. Thornton was president of Union Standard Insurance Company, another Berkley company, since 1990 and has thirty years’ experience in the insurance business.
Thornton will be succeeded at Union Standard by Craig W. Sparks, who previously served as regional vice president for Arkansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Tennessee and for the last eight years was branch manager for Union Standard’s Little Rock, Arkansas office.
Acadia is based in Westbrook, Maine and sells commercial and personal lines primarily in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts. Union Standard is based in Irving, Texas and sells commercial and personal lines in southern and southwestern states.
W. R. Berkley Corporation is a holding company which, through its subsidiaries, operates in all segments of the property casualty insurance business. The operating units are grouped for management purposes into five segments according to market served: Regional Property Casualty Insurance, Reinsurance, Specialty Insurance, Alternative Markets and International.
