Expanding pet health insurance to include birds, Veterinary Pet Insurance has introduced its Avian plan- a comprehensive health plan that will cover thousands of medical conditions as a result from illnesses or accidents.
The country’s most popular pet birds, such as Cockatiels, Parakeets, Parrots, Finches, Macaws and Cockatoos, will now have protection similar to the current coverage available for dogs and cats through VPI.
Annual premiums are $84 for small birds, $120 for medium birds, $156 for large birds, $198 for extra large birds such as Ostriches. In addition to this base plan, bird owners can select supplemental Routine Care Coverage for an additional $99 per year. This includes an annual exam, blood tests, fecal analysis and a nail and wing trim.
Coverage in California will be available November 15, 2000, and will expand into the remaining 49 states and the District of Columbia within the next few months. For more information, contact 800-USA-PETS (800-872-7387) or visit the Veterinary Pet Insurance Web site at www.petinsurance.com.
