The Hartford Financial Services Group has appointed Tom Johnston senior vice president and chief actuary for its property/casualty operations effective July 1.
Johnston, currently the finance director for property/casualty claim, will assume leadership for all property/casualty actuarial operations. He succeeds Richard Palczynski, who will retire from The Hartford.
Johnston began his career with The Hartford as an actuarial trainee in 1974. During the next 11 years, he served in a variety of commercial lines and personal lines actuarial capacities, before being appointed chief actuary for Cameron & Colby, now called Horizon Management. In 1996 he was appointed managing director for The Hartford’s Excess Insurance Co. in London and two years later was named chief financial officer for Heritage Holdings, which owns and manages The Hartford’s discontinued property/casualty operations. Johnston became finance director for claim in 2000.
