IEF Mourns Loss of Clanton

October 8, 2003

Insurance Education Foundation (IEF) CEO Jack Clanton passed away Sept. 28 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Clanton had served as CEO for IEF since August 2002 and was instrumental in continuing the organization’s mission of educating teachers and students about insurance.

“Jack was a truly special person and a very dear friend of the Insurance Education Foundation,” said Stephen Collesano, vice president, American International Group, Inc., who also serves as IEF chairman. “He was tireless in his dedication to help teachers educate students about insurance. We will miss his boundless enthusiasm that inspired everyone around him.”

Clanton’s work in the industry spanned several decades. Before joining IEF, he worked for the Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company for 28 years, retiring as vice president and general manager.

He also served as past-chairman of the Board of the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies. Other industry related affiliations include National Association of Independent Insurers, Farm Bureau Multi-Line Pool Committee, Farm Bureau Advisory Council, Crop Insurance Research Bureau, National Crop Insurance Association and various other insurance related organizations.

Clanton leaves behind his wife of 39 years, the former Phyllis Anderson, as well as four children and 11 grandchildren.
