Koches Joins AICPCU/IIA as Marketing Director

Sharon A. Koches has joined the American Institute for CPCU and the Insurance Institute of America as marketing director, southern region. She is responsible for marketing activities in her 12-state region, which involve maintaining relationships with organizations that use and teach Institute courses, developing new customers, and participating in regional and national insurance industry meetings and conferences.

Koches works with organizations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas. Her position was formerly held by David P. Thomas who now serves the Institutes as director of sales and marketing director for the Northeast Region.

Before joining the Institutes, Koches was an account manager, a field underwriting/production position, for Selective Insurance Company’s Alternative Market/Large Accounts Department. Her other positions at Selective included specialty lines account manager and agency management specialist (small/middle market field underwriting/production). She also handled casualty facultative reinsurance.

Koches’ background on the agency side includes having served as director of membership and member services and as assistant director of E&O for the Independent Insurance Agents of New Jersey (IIANJ). She also held the position of vice president of The Harjes Agency, an independent insurance agency in Flemington, N.J., specializing in commercial lines and professional liability. While at The Harjes Agency, she was a member of the IIANJ’s board of directors and served as vice chairman of its education committee. She was also Project InVEST state chair.
