NAMIC Unveils New Legislative Information Service

The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies, based in Indianapolis, recently inaugurated an upgraded legislative and regulatory tracking service for its member companies. LARIS, named for the Legislative and Regulatory Information Service, is powered by State Net, a state government and legislative and regulatory reporting service.
According to Roger Schmelzer, NAMIC’s senior vice president, State and Regulatory Affairs, “To offer the most comprehensive service available, NAMIC has partnered with the country’s premier provider of automated legislative and regulatory information, to create a unique database of issues important to NAMIC member companies. LARIS will allow every employee at a NAMIC member company to search the database and receive automatic updates with no additional charge.”
Schmelzer said that the new service allows its members to have customized information delivery options. He added that information is classified by topic and checked for accuracy at each stage of the process.
NAMIC believes the new system will allow insurers to be informed on a very current basis about what is happening in a legislature or insurance department that might affect their business.
