Baby Seats Recalled after Reports of Three Skull Fractures

Bumbo International of South Africa recalled about 1 million "Baby Sitter" seats after 28 reports of babies falling out of the seats, including three skull fractures, a U.S. government safety group announced.

Babies are at risk for serious head injuries when the seats are placed on a table, countertop, chair or other raised surface and the infants arch their backs, possibly causing them to flip out of the seats and fall onto the floor. The Consumer Product Safety Commission advised that consumers never use the seat on a table or elevated surface.

The seats, manufactured in South Africa, were sold by Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, Toys "R" Us, Babies "R" Us, USA Baby and other toy and children's stores across America and online from August 2003 through October 2007.

The baby seat is a single piece of molded foam and comes in yellow, blue, purple, pink, aqua and lime green. The seat has leg holes and a seat back that wraps completely around the baby. On the front of the seat is the word "Bumbo" with the image of an elephant.
