Wow, Croatians should be so grateful there is this wonderful American (an expert, would you say?) trying to teach us about the wine industry! Good thing he came along to introduce this grape variety, since I am sure no one even knew it existed (even though it originated from there) until he told us.

    Is this guy serious?

Plus, Mr. AIG, please keep in mind that not everyone feels the need to sell their soul just to make a buck. I know this may be heard to understand, but winemakers in Croatia do not want to be in WalMarts across America. Maybe it would be best if you kept the Yellow Tail-type wine industry where it belongs.

If I didn’t show up for my first day of work at my current employer, and called in for a teleconference from Croatia, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have a job. “Hi everyone I’m your new boss I know you’re worried about your jobs and the safety of your families but don’t worry I’ve got everything under control. Now I’m going to have to sign off early I have a meeting with a wine buyer from Costco but help yourself to the sandwiches.”

but until that “winery in the sky” dream comes true, I am a seasoned P&C broker trying to find a decent position in an industry where age discrimination is rampant. One BIG reason? Employers don’t want grey hairs on the payroll – they might drive up their group health insurance rates. The days of 10-20 years min. experience being necessary to get a foot in the door have denegerated into the door being slammed right in your face as soon as they figure out how “old” you are. I told one friend to keep an eye out for a job for me. She said she had just talked to one of her underwriters who said: “We’re looking for someone. We want someone younger…”

in all fairness, I’d be fairly interested in alcoholic beverages if I had that job as well…

Give the guy a break. I am sure he told AIG before he was hired that he was going to pick grpaes for a few weeks. This guy is going to straighten out AIG. He was retired and they got him out of retirement. Of course it is on his terms, but he is a good choice to run a big company.

I’m guess he could be very good but then again, there are plenty of folks who could do a good job and would cut their vacation short to show up for the first day of work for what he’s being paid. Obviously, those who matter didn’t care if she showed up or not so why should the rest of us?

Mike Grgich told the world that the old Croatian grapes were in the Zin Family. Mr. AIG thinks this is a new revelation!!!

There are NOT a lot of people in this world who can run AIG. Greenberg was one. AIG, as it used to be, is a complex company and not a lot of people are qualified to be its CEO. This guy is. Sullivan screwed it up, Libby was a government puppet.

Is it just me, or does the Insurance Journal have a man-crush for Benmosche?

I give the guy credit for jumping out of retirement to turn AIG around, but I think I could do without the puff piece articles.

I’m much more interested in how he plans to right the ship at AIG.

Relax! It’s just insurance. If the CEO is overseas, he is probably not stealing anything.
Maybe AIG needs a little less micro-management.

Not really sure what this has to do with insurance? Was it a slow day at The Insurance Journal and this is the best they could come up with for a story?

I think the journal should get real and understand we don’t give a hoot about his wine. Nor AIG either. I really do wish the governemnt was out of the insurance and wine business. This would be a better world.
