The Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) has recognized Dr. William Feldhaus with the organization’s 2009 PLUS Founders Award.
The Founders Award, which was presented at the group’s annual meeting in Chicago earlier this month, recognizes a member of PLUS who has made lasting and outstanding contributions to the Society. Criteria used when selecting the Founders Award include membership in PLUS, participation in PLUS activities, creativity and innovation when needed to address PLUS tasks, amount of time and effort dedicated to the organization, promotion of PLUS in the industry and to the public in general, or other contributions to the image of PLUS, and involvement in developing, implementing, improving and continuing its programs.
Feldhaus has been a primary resource and key proponent of the RPLU program since the early 1990s. His work was instrumental in the development of the RPLU Program’s course study guide materials and exams, and he has served as a key resource to the PLUS Director of Education since the program’s inception. He has lead the Academic Advisory Council, academicians who serve as advisors to the RPLU Committee, since it was formed in 1995. His standing and perspective as an academician provided credibility to the RPLU Program in its formative years, and his ongoing involvement has helped the RPLU designation achieve the reputation it enjoys throughout the industry today. In addition to his work on the RPLU Program, Dr. Feldhaus has been an instructor at all of the PLUS University sessions held, to date.
He is the coordinating author of two texts on surplus lines insurance—”Surplus Lines Insurance: Principles” and “Issues and Surplus Lines Insurance Practices.” He authored “Risk Retention Groups” and “Risk-Based Pricing Factors for Property-Liability Guaranty Funds,” research projects of the Georgia Chapter of the CPCU Society. He was a contributing author of a research study for the United Nations (UNCTAD) on risk management in developing countries.
