Since the world is growing colder and has for the last 15 Years the I am dubious about this propaganda and junk science. However, if the seal levels are rising and the Artic ice is thawing despite scientifically proven and observed global temperature cooling then we do have disconnect that needs development. If the thawing is happening because the sea beds are growing warmer then the exposure to so called rising sea levels is the least of our ctastrophic worries. If seismic activity and volcanism are on the march and this is causing the ice to melt then the seacoasts are not the only or even the worst exposed. tsunamis do not need rising leveles to do their work. Erathquakes operate inland and volcanoes are a lkava base of no return. Given the off teh chart sismic activity in teh Pacific rim and the rapid increase and severity develpments elsewhere it is not man but Nature and the earth that are bringing head long extinction to many of us. Any questions?

Quote from the mouth of Bill Clinton: “Global warming makes it colder”. What a baffoon.

Jane, You sound just as credible as the so called climate change scientists whose theories have been blown out of the water and they were caught doctoring their data to fit their model. Several have resigned in disgrace. You are very naive to believe this nonsense from buffoons.
Well, Jane Dough, at least we know that you learned how to cut and paste!
“The creators of “Surging Seas” say their model…” In other words, these people have put together a computer simulation and feel they have controlled for every single factor within the environment, and know exactly how it will all play out.
Once again, this and the entire AGW argument is based upon some cumputer model put together by some geek, whose level of ego is such they feel as if they are controlling for every single element affecting weather. A glorified video game.
How is it possible for a “climate scientist” in the 21st century to get a PhD. without, apparently, hearing of my famous principle? Here’s a simple way to disprove the idea that melting ice will cause a rise in sea levels: fill a clear glass tumbler 2/3rds full with water. Add a couple of ice cubes and then mark the level of the water in the glass. Watch some Olympic game tryouts and come back when the ice has melted. Observe the water level. Because the ice displaces its own weight when floating in water, there will be no change in the water level.
Archie, people who believe in global warming, a group to which I do not belong, are not saying that melting ice will cause a rise in sea levels. They are saying that global warming causes both things – 1. melting ice and 2. a rise in sea levels (expansion due to heating).
I think the idea is that not all of that ice is floating in water. Some is on land and the water from the melting will end up in the oceans.
This is not to mean that I agree with their models. Mike N has it pretty much correct in my view.
It never fails to amaze me about the articles published by IJ on this. Are they getting stimulus money to put this out? How many times do we have to debunk these guys and discover their lies and distortions? They can’t seem to get their mind around the fact that over the past 10+ years, the earth has been cooling. Everytime there is a weather anomally, they say Global Warming and somehow it is man’t fault and the US in particular.
Ah, but you forget where we live my friend. Point is, if it’s mother nature – there’s no one to sue for it. Once it becomes a man-made issue, all you have to do is find a “man” that contributed to it so you can sue him.
I find it interesting that these scientist can tell us exactly where things will be in 40 years, but can’t seem to tell us who’s gonna get hit by a tornado or hurricane next month.
Also, I like Jane Dough’s explanation. Not sure if the premise is based on acutal sceince, but Nice one, Jane. Big Dennis Quaid fan are you? Sounded right out of “Day After Tomorrow” to me. Great movie, BTW.
Unitl all global warming reports include prominent display of the probability of each event their content has no meaning.
I remember from junior high school science class that we filled a glass of water full of ice to the brim and as the ice melted the water level stayed the same it did not overflow. Possible these scientist should take a junior high school science class!

Liberals,
Get out of your coastal property — NOW.
I will be more than happy to purchase from you for one dollar.
I might even help you find some friends to help you move.
And they voted for a guy they thought could roll back the waters as our Messiah. Now that his green agenda is on the rocks, I guess they are afraid of the waters rising again. Vlad, you were too kind calling them Liberals. These are full blown Progressives now and are out of the closet.
Better yet, just leave everything and run! After the contract is signed that is.
Politics aside, there appears to be agreement that ocean levels are rising and will continue to rise causing much economic damage in the future. From an insurance perspective, what is the best course of action for our industry? Red-line the coastal risks? Higher rates? Special funds mechanisms? Nothing and see what happens then lurch swiftly at the last moment?
The industry already redlines coastal areas. Try to get a regular HO on the coast of Texas sometime. You have to go through the Windstorm Association to get wind coverage. Never fear on the flood, the NFIP to the rescue. Of course, Congress will keep funding this program at a loss and keep bailing it out. If that doesn’t work, the Progressives can wave their green agenda wand and roll the seas back.
” there appears to be agreement that ocean levels are rising ”
There does? If this were true, beaches would be disappearing, small islands would be slipping below sea level, etc. Can you name any?
I guess we had better keep our eye on the Caymans, Bermuda, Bahamas, Long Island to see which ones go under first. According to their experts, the water will rise to cover low lying areas. We shouldn’t leave out Holland since they have created land out of the sea and a fair amount of it is below sea level. Of course, the Progressives have the Messiah to raise his arms to hold back the sea if we follow his agenda.
I think it’s interesting that these so-called scientists can say there are more of less than any type of storm outside of the last 50-60 years or so. How long have we used satellites to measure storms and weather patterns? How long have we used radar and other precise scientific instruments to measure the weather? If you think logically about it…we have real qualified precise scientific data of about 50 years. Our instruments have become more accurate to measure not only degrees but to the tenth or hundreth of a degree ie digital thermometers. Prior to the industrial age what was used to measure wind speed, temperature, and the alike? That’s right very simple somewhat consistently calibrated tools. Could we see in the middle of the ocean to tell if a tropical storm had formed and dissappeared? Did we know how much ice cap we had with precise GPS measurements or satellite photos? Our history of precise known weather is a nano-second of our world’s history. We have had global warming and cooling prior to the industrial age before gas fueled cars. The Earth has a way to balance itself out all on its own. No one ever thinks to involve the Sun into the weather forcasts either. Our only source of heat the Sun fluctuates and produces solar flares. If you buy into any man made global warming you are a useful idiot. Pure and simple.

“Willfull ignorance will be the end of this nation.”
On that point we could agree.
Quick Questions:
Where can I go to get a degree in “Climatology”?
When did Al gore get a degree in science?
Why does the word “socialism” frighten you so, when it is an appropriate definition to define someone that wants government to control the means and distribution of products and services?
Is crony capitalism the only capitalism you prefer?
Do you agree with Maxine Waters that the government should take over oil companies?
Sorry for so many questions.
You can pick one or two of your favorites.

JS, perhaps you have been sipping a little too much liberal Koolaid. I can’t believe you didn’t know what connection Al Gore had with this story. He basically started the story with his bogus movie on Global Warming and it was all man’s fault and specifially the US fault. If Socialism doesn’t frighten you, how about Marxism, the Dictatorship of the Proletariat that this country is now facing? Crony Capitalism has existed for a number of years for the big power brokers like Buffett, Immelt, Soros. It has not applied to Small Businesses who work hard and have had the worst of it. I am glad you agree on Maxine Waters. She is a criminal who has been charged with numerous ethics charges still unheard by the ethics committee because they are afraid of being called racists.

“…the Dictatorship of the Proletariat that this country is now facing?”
Really? Wow. I’m a proletariat and sure don’t feel anything like a dictator. (Unless I put a potato in my pocket)
Allow me to retort.
As of 2008 there was one university that had a “climatology” degree.
I used Al Gore only because Rush was referenced as a scientist.
Socialism is defined as the government controlling the means and distribution. I see no difference because liberals see the government as problem solver. I prefer the free market.
If you only see crony capitalism, that is sad for you as you think only politically connected can achieve the American dream.
Glad we agree Maxine Waters is wrong.
If you read my questions carefully I was only trying to make my point that freedom and capitalism is the. BEst path forward.
Hey Nome, the Dictatorship of the Proletariat refers to the Communist Dictator who rules the Proletariat (People) with an iron fist. They control all means of production, there is no individual freedom to do anything. There have been many down through recent history. The best examples are Stalin, Mao Tse Tung and more recently Castro in Cuba and Chavez in Venezuela. All of these countries have been big failures economically. Cuba is one of the poorest countries on earth after 50 years of Castro. Venezuela would be totally broke if they didn’t have oil to sell.
When did Al Gore start working for the Insurance Journal?
Who cares December 21st, 2012 will be here before the tide does.
According to the movie, the scientists were wrong and it really happens in June….oh my!
This is a prediction of what will happen 18 to 38 years in the future. Can anyone tell me what were the predictions for sea levels and flooding 18 to 38 years in the past? And did those predictions come true today?
In reviewing your ice in the glass theory….aren’t the polar caps above the water line? And the ice cubes in the glass, below the water line? I’m not a scientist, but I do drink ice water and when the ice is above the water line, and it melts, the water line does rise.
” And the ice cubes in the glass, below the water line?”
You must have some weird ice cubes.
Where were these people back in the Dust Bowl era in the 30′s when it was much hotter than today? Guess what, the earth was doing its natural thing and after a few years, another cycle started with normal rain and temperatures. No one blamed Bush back then and no one blamed man for the anomally. By the way, CO2 is good for plants and they will die without it. For you Progressives that haven’t studied Botany, plants take in CO2 and through photosynthesis give off oxygen. You wouldn’t be breathing very long if they didn’t do their thing and you think CO2 is bad. Wake up and be educated.

JS, We ridicule the findings of these so called scientists because they have been caught lying and doctoring their data for years. Many have resigned in disgrace after being found out. This is why thinking people doubt all this global warming bunk. When the findings are found to be wanting, their whole agenda falls apart. By the way, I don’t have a problem accepting a Contingency check because I worked hard for it. We don’t take under the table deals like Marsh Mc did years ago to get contingency. We make our money the old fashioned way, hard work and getting along with our carriers. When we see hypocrisy personified, we cannot remain silent.
What ended the last Ice Age?
The seas are not rising, and it’s not because, as President Obooba claimed, he got elected.
http://www.ClimateDepot.com
When the ice age ended, the glaciers retreated. I don’t think the seas rose to flood the lands back then. The earth will always have periods of climate change, the sun will have solar flares that will cause issues, the moon will always have an effect on tides and none of it is the fault of Bush or the US manufacturers since they are mostly gone now anyway. Tell China they are the cause of it and see how much headway you make.
The term “climate change” should always be preceded by the word “natural”.
Not with the Environmental Wackos Scott. They see it as man’s fault and the US in particular. Remember when we had to save the spotted owl, the California Smelt fish, the Polar Bears were becoming extinct. By the way, we have 25,000 more Polar Bears now than when they started this campaign to save the planet. I guess they didn’t get the free contraceptives and kept on having cubs.
