They have been paying farmers for decades not to grow crops in order to keep prices high. They subsidize corn growers for producing corn for ethanol. What a joke! These farmers are like the entitlement crowd and they think they think they should receive unending payments for not farming. We should be raising crops for export to countries who will pay for our food. It would cut our balance of payments problem with China if we sent their ships back home full of grain.
Good article but I wish it had walked me through some of the amendments such as the one that would have reduced Crop Insurance in order to give SNAP (food stamps) more money. Also, often, writers forget to include the action citation of the legislation. I think it’s important to put the bill # in so that folks can look it up on thomas.gov if they want to get more details.
