Let me get this straight: Plaintiff, which produces a cheap meat filler made from fatty trimmings sprayed with ammonia to kill its E-Coli bacteria, alleges that ABC New “falsely” told viewers that its product was not safe, not healthy, and not even meat?

No William get this straight, irresponsible reporting – 700 out of jobs, (some of whom I know). If you don’t want to eat this product don’t buy it. Several grocers and resturants who made an initial decision to discontinue purchasing this product relented after they were educated.

However, it IS safe, safer than the hamburger it is combined with to reduce the hamburger’s fat content. The product had been used hamburgers from nearly every fast food chain and in nearly 70% of ground beef for years with not even a single illness recorded.

While it comes from trimmings, the fat content is removed, leaving nothing but healthy beef behind.

Ammonia is used in the production of cheese, baked goods and chocolate.

The truth of the matter is the product is one of the few food additives available that actually INCREASES the nutritional value of the proudct it is added to, but has been singled out because of its “pink slime” tag.

I make a lot of food from scratch and never once have added ammonia to anything.

Nope, I just make sure to avoid food recipes which call for ammonia.

There are lots of others that should be sued.
It was an individual with a grudge that labeled it “Pink Slime”.
No one ever got sick from it.
Maybe it was the “vegetarians” putting out this information, trying to get everyone off meat.
As for me, I will continue to eat meat!!!

Part of the scandal comes from the fact that many people want to know what they are eating, and the FDA does not require the food industry to include ammonia in the ingredients.

Choose to eat want you want but I think we have a right to know what is in our food (like GMO ingredients).

As far as it being safe, sure it is safe but it is healthy for you to eat? Why do I need filler in my meat? Why can’t I just get pure meat without any filler in it?

The product wasn’t on the shelf to just purchase, so “if you don’t like it don’t buy it” doesn’t work in this situation. This product was being included in beef without consumer knowledge. I do believe that the reporting went a bit overboard, however I also believe we have a right to know what we are consuming.

I could eat pure “pink slime” for the next 30 years and I’d be just fine. We don’t live that long to begin with. I promise it will not shorten your life span. Never will I believe that a tiny piece of the tiny burger at a fast food joint is going to do anything drastic to my lifespan or health. If you ate it for years and didn’t know about it, I’m sure you are doing just fine. You’d swear that they are making you smoke cigarettes with your reactions. Allan, if you want meat without filler, go kill a cow and stick it between some bread. Everyone I know who has strict “healthy” or vegan diets ends up being sick from lack of nutrition. Get over it we will all die soon enough and this will not be the cause!

I guess it would be nice to be able to grow and produce all that you eat, but realistically the majority of us have to rely on what is boxed and packaged in the local market. Even with the knowledge of what is in most products, economically it is not always feasible to purchase the “healthy” or organic option. If you are living on a very tight budget and trying to feed a family you buy what you can afford. So I guess ignorance can be bliss in some circumstances.

Ya know, beef is kind of expensive. So are processed foods. A family on a budget should not be buying a lot of meat or processed foods anyway. I am skeptical of (but not very educated about) the organic food movement although I think it comes from the right place. Just thoroughly wash your produce and don’t worry too much about pesticides.

I am no longer a fan of pre-ground beef anyway. Not only is it unsafe to eat less than well done, but the texture sucks. If I need ground beef (not often, but primarily for burgers) I prefer to grind it myself.
