I don’t see how Obama is addressing climate change when he’s approved the souther leg of the Keystone pipline and open up more offshore oil drilling along with more fracking. I mean, lets get the story straight.

He didn’t approve the northern part crossing from Canada down through part of Federal Lands. The southern part from Oklahoma to the Texas gulf coast was on state lands and not subject to Federal approval. It is coming through Texas as we speak. Daryl Hannah tried to stop it by laying down in the path of the trench and succeeded in getting herself arrested. She cooled her heels for a few days and then went back to Hollywood.

Hi CT. Let’s not leave out Susan Rice, Hillary Clinton, David Petraeus, Ichabod Carney who read from the same script. How will they spin the Gaza trouble? Has another video came out that I didn’t know about to have all those wonderful Hamas people start firing off rockets at Israel forcing them to retaliate? I am glad they got the Bin Laden of Hamas. Israel may just take the rest of them out in a few days. That is one big cesspool and Egypt has been supplying them with rockets for months now. I join FFA in saying it is time to take care of these Jihadists in that area.

Obama did not approve the southern half of the Keystone Pipeline. He took credit for it to ease the tensions caused by killing the jobs that would have been created with the Keystone and oil from Canada. The southern half was approved during the Bush administration.
I am not aware of any specific promises BO has made that he kept. He has talked at a high level that sounds positive for the country but taken those avenues that cripple. His time behind the teleprompter was well spent because people are looking for a savior. Unfortunately, they picked the wrong one.

Here’s a question: What if Republicans just gave in to ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING Obama wanted to do? I’m serious. What if they all just abstained from voting on all his initiatives, and then at the end if everything was beyond screwed up, they could say, “Hey, it wasn’t us!”

Actually livestock are a huge contributor to greenhouse gases, then there are the waste products and the food and water they consume and the fossil fuels used in production. It is healthier to just eat the grains, instead of “processing” it through livestock. At some point in the future, most people may not have a choice but to eat less meat, due to cost.

Yeah, more legislation on climate change. Less use of fossil fuels, higher energy costs meanwhile all the coal and oil which could have been burned here will be burned in India and China where they’re building more coal powered plants every week and where they are stealling even more American jobs. And the same amount of CO2 is still be released into the atmosphere. Now there’s a jobs growing platform if I ever saw one.

Nice try Libby. But still a bad story. So big Al installs a few solar panels in his home to reduce annual kilowattage by 6,570 from 221,000. He’s still an energy hog. And the scheme about using more environmentally friendly energy is just that, a scheme. A scheme he got rich on. The energy still comes from the power company who he has no control over where they get it. He just buys some carbon credits from a company he helped form and got rich to “offset” his piggishness. Never let the facts get in the way of a poor argument, right Libby?

Well, it’s more than that Dave. The Gore house is an old house. Bush house is new and green technology was built into it. There’s a big difference in energy efficiency between and old house and a new house. But I wouldn’t want you to sweat the details – just the headlines.

The article also fails to point out energy pig Al’s use of private airplanes. I suppose if you look at a dictionary and look up the word hypocrite you’ll find a picture of energy pig big Al right there.

I am still waiting on my 18 Tax decreases he said Small Business has been given in the first term. What we are going to see is more failed green agenda, more taxpayers money wasted trying to make gas out of switchgrass, algae, cow dung and more companies going belly up after spending all that money. The only way this country will rebound is if we develop all our resources and that is not going to happen.

She has been like an Ostrich with her head in the sand and not seeing what her guy has been doing to this country the past 4 years. There is no indication that he will do anything different in a second term. It is his way or the highway and he will continue to pander to the left who put him in office. He continues to play rope a dope on Libya and will likely continue to “investigate” for 4 years when 280 million know what happened over there. I hope Petraeus will actually tell the truth to Congress this time and Hillary is hiding out in Australia. She should be recalled and have to testify under oath herself. These people are the biggest liars and schemers ever in a position of leadership we have ever had.

FFA, Sorry about the Bears game last night. I was looking forward to a barn burner and it was over before halftime. It is apparent they need Cutler in the game because the back up was totally lost and played poorly even for a back up. SF was playing their back up and he looked better than Smith, the starter. He made no mistakes and the kid can really throw it. The only team in the NFL that is consistent from game to game is the Cowboys. They are consistently inconsistent and can make a 2-7 opponent look good.

Fact is 16 of the worst 20 most polluted cities in the world are in China, 2 in Russia, Chernobyl in the Ukraine (I know that one), 1 in India and 1 in Pakistan. If you were to reasearch the top 50 worst polluted cities, my bet is not one would be in the US. What does that mean? 1.) I guess that is all George Bush’s fault and 2.) Why does Obama need cars that get 54 miles per gallon and others that run on batteries (a pollution tht is difficult to get rid of in and of itself) when he might spend a whole lot less money and get world support by forcing the worst polluters to quit poisoning their own people and clean their country up, all of them?

Libby, I have no doubt that you read the National Enquirer and the Huffington Post which are about the same. Employers really are laying off people and I hope the first ones to go are the people that voted for Obama. In our conservative Texas town, there aren’t too many of those, however. You have really done it this time and you are so stupid that you don’t see it. Are you in the agency world or the company world? If you were in the agency you would have been hearing the comments we’re hearing frmo our doctors, oil people, contractors, etc.. They are worried.

This is just more political speak to an audiance that will listen to him. If he wants to do something about pollution, the first thing he could do is to quit smoking like a chimney.

The truth is that of the top 20 most polluted cities in the world- 16 are located in China, 2 in Russia, Cherynobl in the Ukraine (I could have guessed that one, and 1 in India. I would bet that if you researched the top 50 that none would be in the US, So why does Obama want to force us to drive electric cars (polluters in and of themselves) with a 50 mile range and force car makers to produce 54 MPG cars that will be duds to drive?

I have an idea, why not take some of the money that you wasted on companies like Solyndra (Oh they went bankrupt), get international support and force China and the rest of these countries that are the biggest polluters in the world to clean up their country? If he did that then these countries might just have to do it, cost of their products might go up and then jobs might just move back to the US.

He is about to go to Burma for some unknown reason. Do you think there will be some pollutants put in the air on that trip? He says to America, do as I say, not as I do.

The planet is a living thing. We have a duty to keep it healthy for all forms of life that inhabit it and those that have yet to evolve. Whether or not you believe in the science that is climate change, I think everyone can get behind an effort to be less harmful to the environment which is where we all breathe, drink, and eat. Taking action now will put the US in a leadership role, a role model even, to and for other nations. Perhaps we can affect change in others by our example. I mean, baseball and blue jeans caught on, right? It would be great to see those in congress working together to create a solution that will continue to benefit for decades and centuries to come. I, for one, salute anyone in office giving effort to this campaign. I don’t believe this is priority number one, but it is an issue that deserves attention. I’ll be curious to see if and how this develops.

Libby said- But how would he go about forcing the rest of the world to “clean up their act?”

I think there are a number of things that we could do such as:

1.) Back off American industry who make their products in the US to make us more competitive in world markets. At least in the short term.

2.) Garner international support (something this administration would have a tough time with), especially Europe Japan and other east Asian countries since the pollution problems of Russia, China, Pakistan and India are closer to them and will have a greater impact on them than North America (at least in the short term). Most European countries already have tough pollution controls. At least the western European countries do and Japan I believe. They don’t want the Chinese to poison their own people.

3.) Place an additional international pollution tariff on goods coming from China, Russia, Pakistan, India etc. This could be done by all of the coalition countries. Collect the tariffs and place them in a trust by each country. If the country makes certain improvements (hit certain targets) in eliminating pollution, they can get the money back without interest. We keep the interest money for our cost and trouble. We can put the interest money (I suspect several billion dollars)in the treasury directed solely to pay down our debt (good luck with that. Obama will have it spent 50 times over on entitlements).

4.) If they don’t like it The US could/will seek other product providers in countries that do not pollute and kill their own people to sell a lot of junk product to the US. Like our European coalition partners.

5.) Place an exit tariff on US companies that use Chinese, Russian, pakistan or Indian companies to produce products for American domicile companies. This would be foreign companies that are big pollution contributors. There are many. So you get a tariff on incoming and outgoing companies

Once the tariffs are in place each country would either have to pay or exit. That just might make Chinese,India,Pakistan products more expensive and allow companies to produce higher quality, better products in the US which could mean more US jobs.
There are many other things that can be done but this post is already to long.

P.S. I did not thumbs down your post. I had renewal calls to make.

Those are some good ideas. But you’re talking about raising the price of the end product to consumers, which in the end makes us pay for it. Don’t know about you, but I really can’t afford for things to get much more expensive.

As far as choosing product providers, that’s up to each individual company to decide, not the U.S. government.

But I’m all for getting international support and a list of their ideas as well.

Glad your business is going well and you have accounts to renew.

Planet, I don’t care what the CEO and officers of this company made as long as the company was successful and provided jobs to employees. These unions like the Teamsters and Bakers Union continue to push the envelope and what do they tell all these unemployed workers now. Sorry, but our strategy didn’t work. Go down and file for unemployment or disability and good luck in the future. We have had a few of these cases in Texas even though it is still a right to work state. A union shut down a plant down here 10 years ago after striking for 3 months. The plant just shut down killing 500 jobs and never came back. Cob webs decorate the building.

If the owner gave all 18,000 a pay increase, and received no income, he could raise their wages 138 dollars.

The executive’s pay was not the pay which caused hostess to go under. You are aware the union offered 25% ownership among other perks correct Planet?

This firm could have whethered the recession with the right cuts. Now the jobs are gone for good.

$138 dollars a year is divided out by 40 hour weeks, and 52 weeks.

That’s .066 cent hourly increase. I would call it “bad taste” to attempt such a wage increase in the mixture of a recession and the business going under.

The goal should have been to keep Hostess alive, not to see how much we could squeeze from them as they went under, knowing the most they could ever get was a .066 cent raise, and rejecting a 25% ownership in debt. You realize 25% ownership in the debt, would turn into 25% of the profits as soon as the company bounced back up right Libby?

That’s a good deal. They should have taken it. If they had not gone on strike they could have restructered the firm and come out stronger.

Hostess has been having problems for years due to mismanagement. I don’t know the details of the union deal, but I know the Teamsters caved big time. And even with those concessions, the company wasn’t able to be saved.

I’m not saying the CEO should have given up his salary, but giving top execs an 80% pay raise?? That’s unconscionable. When the company is hurting, it didn’t show good faith on his part to the folks that do all the work.

15,000 of 18,000 workers agreed to the cuts. 3,000 bakers refused. And all 18,000 lost jobs because of it. The 3,000 bakers can be very proud of their actions. I’m sure they can all go home now and tell their spouses, “Honey, a few of us held out for more money and we all lost our jobs. Isn’t that great? And because we were out on strike we are not eligible for unemployment, isn’t that wonderful? Now we get to spend all this extra time together, although with no money to have fun.”

And thanks to this action, it sounds like a Mexican company may buy the brand name and make these goodies at less than half the labor costs incurred stateside. And by making the Twinkies in Mexico, they won’t be subject to the onerous sugar tariff which raises the prices of all products containing sugar. So maybe these new Twinkies will cost us less. But 18,000 Americans more will be able to take part in Obama’s food stamp program, and all those income taxes will be gone furthering even more Obama’s $1.2 trillion + annual deficits.

I am taking your word for it on the pay increase of 80% for the ownwers. I should not be, I don’t believe that is true.

Note in this article: They had 2.5 billion in annual revenues and still could barely pull off a 2.5 million dollar income. That’s not greedy.

Note also that they offered 25% ownership in the debt. This means 25% ownership of profit when Hostess goes up.

When hostess is down, you share in the 8% pay decrease. When hostess is up, you share in 25% of the profits. I find that perfectly fair. They only whether 8% of the down grade, but they get 25% of the profits on the up swing. How is that not a good deal?

“Hostess also reduced its pension obligations and its contribution to the employees’ health care plan. In exchange, the company offered concessions, including a 25% equity stake for workers and the inclusion of two union representatives on an eight-member board of directors.”

I don’t know how you can expect to garner union support in a cutback when you are doing those things to yourself and executive staff. And while I understand they have every right to pay themselves anything they want, it was not the time for hugh pay raises. The company was in the toilet and the workers were protesting. Working people will only take so much before they revolt.

We know that they were being forced into an 8% pay cut, in addition to pension cuts. We also know that they cut dollar amount was 100,000,000. We also know there were 18,500 employees.

I stand by the cross multiplication. The dollar amount received by employee average before the cut would have been over $60,000 when you work out the numbers. Some would have made more, some less, and some would be collecting pensions of course.

I read about cutting pension contributions from $108 to $25M, outsourcing some delivery, and other things along with an allegedly big concession they made in 2008. The company was in bad straits and I don’t think the union helped, but I don’t think they were the sole cause of the shut-down. They’d gone into bankruptcy a few times before and twice in one year. It’s just a bad deal so many people lost their job. Including many non-union folks. Hopefully, Sun will be able to pick them up and keep them working. If not, there’s more tragedy…

They have some iconic brands and I am sure that the liquidation will bring some strong offers. The only concern I have is that it will go overseas to a foreign domiciled company. It woud be great if Kraft could pick it up and run it. Their stock has produced great results. Also, a company like Kraft could make use of any excess manufacturing capacity in their own plants and may be be able to produce the product at a lower expense ithout having to buy all of the Hostess plants. Maybe I should have eaten more twinkies?

I don’t know about this Hostess thing. I think the best thing for any company who is thinking about picking up the brand and offering the products would be to move to a right to work state where they don’t have union involvement. It seems to have worked out well for several auto makers who have plants in the south. Unions are their own worst enemies and almost as bad a job killer as our government.

I can see this brand coming back under a different banner, but not in a union shop. Whoever picks it up is likely to locate the plants in a right to work state. I don’t think they will want to deal with the Teamsters and Bakers Union like Hostess was trying to do. You mentioned Kraft and that might be a possibility. Michelle is probably ecstatic since the kids won’t have any Twinkies or Ding Dongs for the forseeable future.

Actually, Sarge & Agent. “A great sign of linguistic intelligence is in the use the puns. Puns require a great knowledge of your native language to understand as it uses two important linguistic areas, semantics and phonetics. Just think that if you are a foreign speaker of a language and a native speaker makes a pun, it will most definitely float over your head as you do not have the linguistic intelligence on par of that of the native speaker.”

So Captain and I actually have linguistic intelligence and the use of puns is neither goofy or weird, but intelligent. The fact that neither of you “get” the puns is proof of your ignorance, not of your intelligence.

That means the unemployment rate will continue above 8% with no improvement.

But don’t worry about product costs going up. Obamacare will take care of that. Every product you use will cost more as companies pass on the costs to the consumer.

Perplexed, Planet came out and said the Unions lost $100,000,000 last year. I didn’t know they gave that much to Obama to help him keep his power. What excuse will they give the workers at Hostess Bakeries? I understand that only 5,000 of the 18,000 wanted to strike. However, all 18,000 are losing their job. Perhaps the 13,000 that wanted to keep their job can take the 5,000 out behind the woodshed and thrash them for this Obamanation.

The $100,000,000 is what the workers conceded (gave) in order to help Hostess stay open. By the way, Agent, Hostess first filed back in 2004. So, don’t act like this is a President Obama thing. Hostess has been having problems for years now.

They agreed to an 8% pay decrease. If 100,000,000 is the 8% pay decrease, that makes the average pay in Hostess over $60,000 a year.

Cross multiply 8 over 100,000,000 is to 100 over x. Do you do numbers on your own ever?

Now to support my math, and you should have looked this one up on your own Planet:

          http://www.glassdoor.com/Salary/Hostess-Brands-Salaries-E329177.htm

I think the Hostess employees were treated rather well, and they should have taken that 8% pay decrease and smiled.

I don’t know what deal it is that they actually wanted. I would imagine the deal would have been for an elimination of the 100,000,000 cut (which is where the 8% pay decrease comes from, and then some pension cuts). I can’t believe they were getting paid that much though, and getting pensions working at hostess.

My first job was at Godfather’s in Montana, I would have killed for a job making over minimum wage. Minimum wage in Montana was roughly 3 dollars under that of Washington at the time.

            I will look into it.

Thanks perplexed. People like Planet and Libby are from the very Blue north and have been drinking the liberal Koolaid for so long that they have the Progressive Socialist dogma embedded in their brain. Much like the Democratic Party, they viciously attack someone who happens to disagree with their warped views. The unions are just an extension of their party and a big contributor so Libby & Planet think the union was right to go after Hostess and shut it down with demands the company could not meet. I think it will be a lean Christmas for the 18,000 workers who are not working anymore. I am glad Texas is a right to work state. No wonder Texas has led the country in new job creation for several years. It wouldn’t be this way if Texas was like the N/E and left coast.

The party you belong to is as in the tank for unions as it gets. They want card check and want to organize all business into union shops. They succeed in increasing costs for all businesses dealing with them and if the business won’t giver them all the benefits, they strike until the business gives in or out of business like Hostess did.

Why are you not a republican?

Those areas of business are the primary differences between democrats and republicans.

Agent is assuming because it doesn’t make sense.

You realize that democrats are going back to the 60’s in terms of unions and taxes. These are the same decisions that JFK was against.

I don’t like many modern democrats, but JFK was the first one to start us on the correct path for the role of government.

In essence you are clearly a fiscal conservative, social liberal. Your social liberalism is clearly why you have the urge to change tax rates, in the name of “fairness” despite what your fiscal conservative beliefs should tell you won’t help anyone. Then on the social issues you are just seeing an enemy in the republicans that isn’t there.

Just connect the dots already. You’re a republican.

I am more moderate than most people on this blog think I am. They see my social liberalism and start painting me with a socialist brush. It really has just sealed my dislike for the right.

Again, my social ideals are too strong for me to vote Republican. Until they can get someone in there that will stand up and say they are pro-choice and not be afraid to be drummed out of the party will I vote for a Republican. Romney did that in Massachusetts, but then back-pedaled in the primary due to pressure from the Tea Partiers. I can not respect a man that does that and certainly can not vote for him. I can not trust him to speak the truth.

And before you start in on Obama, I will tell you I think, for the most part, he has been truthful.

And if we were all a little more civil and respectful, we would find we have many more things in common than not.

Benghazi, no new taxes for the Middle Class, 18 tax cuts for Small Business? I am still waiting for mine by the way. I know you do, Agent. And while I am not saying he has been forthright on all things, FOR THE MOST PART I think he has been truthful.

I’m not sure what happened with Benghazi. Either the communication was really f-d up or he lied. I just don’t see the point of lying. He had to know it would come out before the election and could damage him, so I’m thinking others lied to cover it up and he said what intelligence told him to say at the time.

The other things are campaign promises he made that overall, he has kept. In the 18 tax cuts, he included extending the Bush tax cuts and some other things that were in place already. So he took credit for some things that really weren’t created by him but he did extend. I looked that one up.

Libby, Let’s talk about Benghazi. The communications coming out of Libya were clear by the CIA. Petraeus admitted that it was Terrorism by Al Quida from the start. The State Dept, Defense Dept and White House all knew it right away, but these facts just kept getting in the way of the agenda. This President and his cohorts all lied and tried to blame it on the video because the truth might hurt the re-election campaign. I am sure the speech writers were working late to foist this spin on the American People. All they have succeeded in doing is painting themselves into a corner with the lies. 4 people are dead because nothing was done to save them. That is criminal and should not be forgotten or forgiven.

4 people are dead because there were terrorists after them. You can not blame that on the administration. Could there have been more security? Yes. Should there have been more security? Yes. But it was a gigantic clusterf-k of miscommunication, none of which the President was privy to at the time. There was no crime comitted.

And if the President lied about it, then that was wrong. Hardly the end of the world considering the lies of many other men in the same office. No names are needed, I’m sure.

FFA, I am also tired, but not ready to give up just yet. The liberal crowd has their hooks in us and our insureds now. The Unions are flexing their muscles striking in several places and causing employers to either close or creating problems. Hostess and Walmart are the latest examples. I have customers asking me questions about how Obamacare will affect them next year. I wish I had some answers, but it is so convoluted and difficult, I don’t think anyone knows what is going to happen. I think we can agree that it will not be a pleasant experience in the next 6 months to a year.

FFA, I wish you the best and hope you have a great Thanksgiving. I have some things to be thankful for this year as well. I nearly lost my wife due to a massive pulmonary embalism and we were fortunate to have a very talented surgeon to remove it just before it went to her heart and killed her. I can’t help but wonder if this same condition happened next year whether Obamacare would pay it since she has senior status and we know what is going to happen to Medicare and rationed care. Anyway, we are having kids and grandkids in for Thanksgiving this year and it should be great and we can watch the Cowboys lose again to the Redskins.

As I see it, it will only get worse as more of it kicks in. I have told my wife she can’t have any more operations unless it is an emergency situation since she is now developing clots. Too many operations over the past 10 years on her back with several fusions. She cannot tolerate major surgery without it causing problems.

FFA, The Detroit game may be better than the Cowboy game. I think RG111 will run circles around the Dallas defense. Dallas also has 3 starters missing from the offensive line so there will not be many holes to run through and Romo will probably have to run for his life on most pass plays. It could get ugly. All in all, the day will be great with family and kids we don’t see often since they live a ways away. Have a good one.
