Great ideas lets just cut $100 billion from the American farmer–the people who feed us and give it to our Middle Eastern friends. Then we could all have a bowl of oil for breakfast!!

Discussions of the “farm bill” rarely point out what a huge part of this expenditure goes to nutrition programs, not into farmers’ pockets. When you complain about the American farmer, don’t talk with your mouth full.
I frequently point out to my farmer customers that the crop insurance program is heavily subsidized, and the rates they pay are not actuarily sound, so to expect that cost to increase substantially over time. They would all rather have a crop to sell than a government or insurance payment.
