One minute the States want to control everything within their borders and want no outside Federal Agency telling them what to do, the next minute they are crying that the Environmental agency didn’t force people inside their State to limit the creation of methane gas. Give me a break. Maybe those Eastern states should just become the sole property of the Federal government and no longer have a state government. We’ll call them provinces. See how quickly they stop threatening lawsuits.

West Virginia is certainly not one of them. Their state economy is dependent on coal and EPA has been busy shutting down mines and plants. The EPA is the second biggest job killer behind Obamacare. I think you are right that the N/E is pretty much a province of the Federal Government and they really like the nanny state and want the Feds to control and regulate everything to death.

Yes West Virginia! … just keep on pushing millions of tons of that beautiful, harmless air polution into the atmosphere. We here in the Northeast can’t get enough of your smoke stack emmisions.

And keep running those super convincing “Clean Coal” TV commercials. They as SO believable, because golly gee, they’re brought to us by the really nice people in the coal industry. Why would they lie?

I remember when these same people (climate change) were screaming that we were headed to the next ice age in the late 60’s and early 70s. Don’t recall what they blamed it on. Then as we heated up in the 80s the tune changed. Now they have a strong hold in the good ‘ole USA. Hope this country can take it and becomes a grand older USA. Not sure how much more pinhead leadership it can take!@

Right on PM. If this country goes off the fiscal cliff, it won’t really matter much what the states want or what the Federal Government wants. We will be Venezuela and it will be all about survival times. We couldn’t have more stupid leadership than we have now. I thought the Carter Administration and Congress was bad then, but they don’t hold a candle to the ones we have now.

        Oh ya….. let’s see…

“W” inherits a balanced budget with a surplus. (Thanks Bill)

        Then what happens?

        – 2 wars on the county’s credit card,

        – big tax breaks for the rich (with a sunset clause ’cause it too wasn’t paid for),

        – “FREE” prescription drug benefit (also not paid for)….

Oh and here’s the best part, when the time comes to pay the tab, the republicans decide that they don’t want to pay for all the things that drove up the debt.

And their solution? Refuse to raise the debt ceiling (the first time in the nation’s history), which triggers a credit rating downgrade for US Treasuries (also the first time in our nation’s history), which increases borrowing costs for the Federal Government. Oh ya… that will show them?

Ya… I agree… who else tpo blame but the Democrat’s.. right?

        Are you kidding?

JJ, the president is only one piece of the puzzle; you have two more pieces, the House and the Senate. Look up to see who controlled what during the Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush years. You may not just be thanking Bill but your dreaded Republicans! Shiver the thought huh?

Hi Baxtor, Point well taken….you are correct, the President is not a King (thank goodness) and Congress has the “power of the purse”.

My previous comment was in response to “Agent’s” complaint about the current leadership in Washington and his disparaging reference to President Carter’s administration.

If Agent is looking for an example of poor leadership in Washington, DC, he should look no further than to good ol’ “W”.

As for Congress, this whole fiscal cliff “crisis” was completely fabricated by the Republican led House of Reps in their attempt to hold the country hostage to their tried and failed “trickel down tax scheme”. As we’ve all experienced from “W’s” tax cuts for the “job creators”, this is voodoo economics.

If they would simply agree to raise the debt ceiling (which has been raised 75 times since 1962, and 11 times in the last 11 years) they could focus on the REAL problems facing our country.

            But no….. they’d rather…
            – invent a fake crisis,
            – threaten to, or actually default on our Treasury obligations,
            – trigger a 2nd credit rating downgrade of US Govt. Debt.,
            – raise current and future borrowing costs for all Americans,
            – thereby increasing our deficit and taxes, and
            – drive the country into another recession.

Great plan! It’s a shame that we don’t have the intelectual giants like Sharron Angle, Christine O’Donnell, Todd Akin, Allen West, Richard Murdock and Sarah Palin to help get us out of this self inflicted mess.

          Way to stay on topic!

Not that this is relevant to the original issue, but…

Yes… “W” may have indirectly inherited a balanced budget from Clinton who inherited an enviable economy from Regan. By the time Clinton was on his way out of office the economy was on a downward slide despite the Y2K build-up and the short-term savings of looking the other way while our country was becoming vulnerable in the world.

Yes…We had unfunded wars… When was the last war our country pre-planned and budgeted? Should we have looked the other way after 9-11? Whether WMDs were found or not, was it ok to look the other way while the Iraq government filled mass graves?

You would have a hard time finding many intelligent people who do not believe that the US should raise the debt ceiling to pay their debts… What Dems are being blamed for is being in denial that our country has a spending problem vs. a “revenue” problem which I agree the “FREE” prescription drug benefit is part of.

Our unfunded wars was a result of being attacked on 9/11 and killed 3,000+ of our innocent civilians. The left wished we have apologized to Islam and begged them not to attack us again. Perhaps the left thought Clinton bombing empty aspirin factories in the Sudan or sending Cruise missiles to destroy jungle jims in Afghanistan would do the job. We had the Kobar towers attacked in Saudia Arabia, the USS Cole, the African embassy bombings, the first World Trade Center bombing and these Terrorists were just getting warmed up. I’m tired of these girly guys blaming GW for two unfunded wars on a credit card. I remember our current Commander in Chief saying Afghanistan is the right war to fight for the right reasons and he is still bogged down in that quagmire.

As for budgeting for war, when in our history did we ever go to war AND cut taxes? Not ’till “W”.

Not to mention the 4,487 brave American troops who were killed in Iraq, another 32,223,200 wounded and over $1 Trillion spent?

Mass graves? I guess we should begin cutting taxes to ZERO so we can prepare to invade Africa, China and North Korea. Good plan.

And Bin Laden… “I don’t spend much time thinking about him”. Another good plan.

I was and had to suffer through 4 very long years of that nincompoop until he was discharged in a huge landslide. It took Reagan 3 years to unwind the damage that had been done, but he did it and the country rebounded with jobs and prosperity. It was only after the wonderful Speaker of the House, Tip O’Neil welched on the deal to cut spending that deficits came about because revenue was way up. Now, we have the reverse. We have a President who thinks we should spend more even with an annual deficit of $1.4 Trillion and the House wants to cut spending. Who is welching on the deal now?

Remember the infamous Rahm Dead Fish Emmanuel that they shouldn’t let a good crisis go to waste. They are the kings of crisis politics and brinksmanship so evident in the fiscal cliff non-negotiations. He named several Republicans at the end of it. Hey, they would show more leadership than we are getting out of the current crew. By the way, I would like to nominate Susan Rice for Ambassador to Libya. We can send her to the Benghazi consulate after they get it rebuilt since she is sure there are no real bad people there.

After Bush and the Republicans passed those evil, mean-spirited tax cuts the Federal government proceeded to collect more revenue than ever before or since. They paid for those tax cuts with increased revenue created by an expanding economy. Obama should wise up and quit threatening the expiration of the Bush tax cuts and this recession would be over.

I agree Ins Guy. The biggest polluter in the land is the Federal Government with all that CO2 coming out of Washington. It is not industry causing it since much of it has been shut down and moved out. Our cars run cleaner than 10 years ago and I would argue the air is better now than then when we had many more gas guzzler inefficient vehicles on the road. JJ should talk to China about serious air pollution. They have been building coal fired plants at a record pace and you can cut the air in Beijing with a knife.

From the Bureau of Labor and Statistics:

Right to Work States vs. other states:
    1. Median household income is $6,400 less (I rounded down)
    2. 26.7% of jobs are low-wage jobs compared to 19.5% in other states.
    3. 16.8% are uninsured vs. 13.1% in other states.
    4. 56.2% have job-based health insurance vs. 60.1% in other states.
    5. 50.7% of employers offer insurance compared to 55.2% in other states.
    6. 15.3% poverty rate vs. 13.1% in other states. When kids are invovled, 21.5% vs. 18.1% in other states.
    7. $3,390 less per pupil spent (again, rounded down) on elementary and secondary education than other states.
    8. Workplace deaths 36% higher than other states.

Hence, Right to Work for Less. Thumb me down because you don’t like the stats, which just tells us all you don’t like facts when you don’t agree with them.

I wonder how I can buy much more home for the same dollars. I wonder why my groceries and gasoline costs less here. I wonder why businesses continue to flock to right to work states and people from the north continue to leave those states to move south trying to find work after unions killed their jobs. If union states are so great, how come they are losing population? Do you have any statistics on that? It seems like there is a disconnect with your “facts”.
