This doesn’t change my opinion of Toyota one bit. I had the so called recall on the accelerator problem and nothing was wrong with the vehicle. I just bought a new RAV 4 for my wife and she loves it.

People have such short memories. As I have pointed out several times Audi went through the same nonsense in the 80’s and the company almost went under. There was NO defect in the Audi 5000 and there was NO defect in the Toyotas. I have also described how I have shown that my supercharged GM intermediate can be run up to 80 mph and the accelerator mashed to the floor. With the throttle held wide open the brakes were quite capable of stopping the car. But the public and the press aren’t interested in facts. It’s more fun to blame the big evil manufacturer.

There are a lot of nut jobs out there who were trying to make some money off this. One case had a guy driving a Prius who said it was running wild at 120 MPH. I would like to see a Prius capable of that speed. There are any number of things someone could do including putting it in neutral and turning the ignition off while braking. My whole family including two daughters have Toyotas and have had for years and their reliability is great.
