Isn’t it interesting on the number of uninsureds that California and Texas have the highest number of uninsureds? They also lead all other states in the number of illegal aliens within their borders. Texas doesn’t want them, but they keep swimming the river. California welcomes them with open arms. I will let everyone guess which state is bankrupt due to give a ways.

Your comment has some fact-related issues. Round numbers, there are about 50 million uninsured and about (precise numbers can’t be found for obvious reasons) 5-6 million of those are undocumented aliens. So, 12% or so. California’s number of uninsured is big primarily because its population is so large. The biggest states have the biggest numbers. (And California is not bankrupt despite what certain fiction-based news sources say). Texas has more than one quarter of its population uninsured because … well because it’s Texas, I guess.

You are sure one to talk Detroiter. Isn’t your fair city bankrupt? I understand they are screaming for a bailout since they voted overwhelmingly for Obama. One corrupt administration after another and the city is blighted. All the regular folks moved to the burbs to get away from it. I understand Detroit has lost right at half their population in the past 20 years.

It would take more than a comment section to talk about 70 years of screw ups in how Detroit was handled by its government and business interests. But what does that have to do with the price of tea in China? The topic at hand is Rick Perry et al refusing Medicaid expansion but not proposing anything in its place, so that there will remain legions of uninsured in these states. The only reason I’ve really heard for this is “Liberty!” which is about as on point as yours about Detroit.

Detroiter, We seem to have a difference in philosophy. The problems in healthcare will not be made better by expanding the Medicaid rolls. It will also just the bankruptcy of the country. Illegal aliens do not have rights to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid because they are not “citizens”. I know California and some other states want them legitimized so they can receive benefits, but these people need to go back home and come back legally and then we can talk when they are real taxpayers instead of just “taking” what is handed to them. I am not sure which is a worse city, Chicago or Detroit. They are both the armpits of America.

    Well agent,

Here is one Detroiter that will give you support. By the way, California is, while not officially bankrupt, it is on the road to bankruptcy just like Detroit will be Bankrupt in 6 months or so unless the state appoints an emergency manager which would take over running the city and restructure costs includng pensions etc. California has a broken state pension system, at present won’t be able to service its state debt and is a safe haven for illegal aliens. It recently increased the state income tax to 13.1% (The highest in the nation)which is chasing away companies and the people who work for them. Guess where they are moving to? Texas, Florida, Nevada-Gee they don’t have a state income tax.

California can’t even keep their own native citizens such as Tiger Woods who moved to Florida (no state income tax), Phil Mickelson might leave and I heard last night that Dwight Howard of the Lakers is considering an NBA team in Texas that is offering a little less money than the 30Mill the Lakers are offering but when you factor in the California state income tax the Texas deal is more money.

Tiger, Phil, and Dwight – yeah, 3 guys that really need to watch their spare quarters. Give me a break!

Tiger Woods moved a long time ago because of his ex-wife wanting to live there and the golf community that existed there, Phil Mickelson is acting like a spoiled brat which is why he’s receiving all of the ridicule from even the commentators, and Dwight is being rumored to leave because the Lakers suck and are getting old. Not because of taxes. Chicago is still an option, I’m pretty sure they have state income taxes. No, what Dwight sees is a young, talented team in Houston with Lin and Harden. Or, he sees getting away from Kobe. Or, he sees being able to play for Cuban. Who wouldn’t want to play for that guy?

All the best beer is coming from California. California is the largest ag state in the country, too. That matters. Stone Brewing, Green Flash, and Alesmith. It would benefit you to familiarize yourself with these breweries.

Planet, your goofiness is showing again. Tiger moved from California back in 96, long before he met and married Elin. He went to Stanford and quickly learned after taking Econ 101 that perhaps he shouldn’t stay there and have the extra 13.3% California Income tax taken from him on the millions he was going to make. Florida was appealing with no state income tax so the net result was that he has kept $20 million or so of his hard earned money. Phil has now seen the light of day and we expect him to move to either Arizona, Texas or Florida in the near future.

Just another reason I can’t stand Tiger Woods. He doesn’t want to pay his fair share, either. That, and he acts like a 5 year old on the golf course throwing his clubs, cussing, and trying to act like he’s bigger than the game. Oh, let’s not forget the whole multiple affairs as well. Sleeze Woods.

Planet, If you were a big time athlete making $50 Million each year and had to pay 63% in Federal, State, Property taxes on it, I don’t think you would like it much. Whatever you think of Tiger’s behavior on and off the course, he does do good things through the Tiger Woods Foundation for which there are locations in California and Georgia. These are learning centers for disadvantaged youth which teach life skills, computer skills etc. This is something they don’t get at home or at the publicly funded teacher union dominated schools. Perhaps he can save a few thousand young people to be productive citizens instead of being the entitlement crowd welfare recipients that so many of them are.

As for Detroit, let’s just say that its not the Republicans fault because it has been run by Democrats since the late 50’s or so. Currently, the ex Detroit mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick (Democrat)(I know who would name a kid Kwame) has been sent to jail for perjury (among other things)and has now been charged with 19 counts of fraud and racketering, bid rigging etc. The indictment is 89 pages long.He essentially stole the city blind. His father has also been charged and his mother is—-Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick- Congresswomen and Democrat. Then we have Monica Conyers ex councilwomen and a Democrat. She was convicted for taking bribes and is currently in the big house. Her husband— John Conyers- Congressman from Detroit and a—–Democrat. Then there is Jo Ann Watson,Democrat, councilwomen who is a racist whackjob who thinks Obama ought to bailout Detroit becsause she got all the black voters to vote for him. He should “Bring the bacon to Detroit” She also defrauded the city and state on her property taxes only paying $68 a year for about a 10 year period. She is a —- Democrat.
That city, which was once beautiful is now a disgrace, the crime, the worst schools in the country and the idiots who steal from it and run it into the ground, all liberals and all Democrats.

Breweries- Give me a break! That is your response to a state that is going broke? I like it when the only response to the truth is a change in discussion and something as trivial as breweries. As if that is going to save the state from all of the problems they have.

And as far as Tiger, Phil and Dwight? That is just three high profile exampes, two of which were born and raised in California. That fact is companies are leaving California.

No, I just really like their beer and whenever someone says California, they immediately come to mind. I’m just trying to spread the beer knowledge, yo! Try some, you’ll thank me for it. Especially if you like IPAs and DIPAs. I suggest Ruination, West Coast IPA, and Horny Devil as 3 of my favorites out of those breweries.

Yes, companies are leaving California. Like The Philsbury Dough Boy, they don’t want to pay their fair share, either. It’s their right to move to another state. California will always have ag, wine, and hops. Oh, those glorious hops!

You should know Sargent since you are from that area. Which is worse, Democrat led Chicago or Democrat led Detroit? Take your pick on which is more corrupt, crime ridden and bankrupt. Recently, the former Mayor Nagin of New Orleans Katrina fame was charged on numerous indictments of wire fraud, taking kickbacks from contractors for rebuilding work etc.etc. You guessed it, he was a big time Democrat. After he left office, he moved to Frisco, Tx. We don’t want him in our state. Hopefully, they will lock him up for 15-20 and put him in with Jesse, Jr., Democrat who has already plead guilty to numerous charges.

Kwame or Kwamé is a Twi and Akan day name given to a boy born on a Saturday, originating in Ghana.

I know, who would question what name parents choose for their child? Someone who may be very afraid and/or intollerant of others, perhaps. I stress ‘perhaps’ as I am not drawing any conclusions. I’ll leave that to the individual reader.

Sgt Major, is President Obama a United States citizen?

Why ask such a stupid question. You have to be a citizen to be President and surely the Democratic party would not lie, cheat or steal to gain the office- Surely not

It’s not necessary to be loved on the Insurance Journal blogosphere. I’m surrounded by it otherwise. Too many out here seem to have bitter beer faces. And some are just rude. I enjoy the conversations, typically. At the end of the day, we all go home to our loved ones, right? We all should do a better job of keeping it all in perspective. I am extremely excited to have another child. I guess if others don’t see joy in that, they have larger personal issues to mend. Who doesn’t like kids and the miracle of birth?

Boy, tough call and the murder rates are close as well although I believe Detroit’s murder rate is the highest in the country on a per 100,000 rate.

Yes, this is my town even though I now live outside the city in a very nice area. But Chicago- Detroit comparison? . Both are controlled by Democrats. Detroit has been since the mid to late 50’s Let’s see:

    Chicago Muders for 2012-511
Detroit Murders fo 2012- 442- Detroit wins on murder rate.

Illinois ex governor Rod Blagoyovitch (D) in the big house
Michgan Governor Snyder (R) in office and not the big house.

Ex Detroit Mayer Kwame Kipatrick (D) been in big house, out and indicted (hopefully going back to big house) on 19 federal RICO charges. His Mother Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick- Ex US Congressman
Raum Emmanuel (D) In office for now but give him time

Jesse Jackson Jr. (D) probably on the way to the big house while pretending he is mentally impaired but smart enough to buy a $43,000 Rolex and Michael Jackson’s hat (If you call that smart)
Jesse Jackson Jr.s wife (D) on the way to the big house.

Detroit coucilwomen Monica Conyers(D) in the big house for taking bribes ad bid rigging. Wife of John Conyers (D) US Congressman.

Detroit’s Jo Ann Watson, councilman (D) racist and cheated the city out of 10 years in property tax.

Detroit- Broke, will be taken over by Governor appointd emergency manager in the next couple of months. Detroit has a 2.4% income tax for residents and a 1.225% income tax for non residents. So why are they broke?
Chicago- 10.25% city sales tax which has to be one of the highest in he counrty. Let’s take advantage of the people who live and buy here.

Illinois has some of, if not the toughest gun laws in the counrty. Michigan has the will issues conceal carry law.

Just off the top I would say Detroit is more corrupt and dangerous city but I might give the corrupt state award to Ill with louisiana a close second.

Good Summary Sargent. The Progressive bloggers on this site are in complete denial about the Tax & Spend philosophy of their beloved leaders. All that happens over a period of years is bankruptcy and ruin of the cities and states that practice it. Businesses and people move away to escape the oppression and the tax base shrinks which will not support all the services they demand. How many examples do they need? Apparently, it goes in one ear and out the other so they like to blame others for the travesty they have created.

By the way planet it is not a “birther coment”. It is written into the United States Consttution that the President must be a “Natural Born Citizen” A 2011 Congressional reasearch report said that this means the President must be naturally born IN the United States and if not ( For example- parents may be serving in the military etc when the child was born) both of his parents must be naturally born citizens of the United States.

I am a California native and I love it here. Yes, we have our financial problems but we always find a way to resolve them. We have the Silicon Valley which is still the heart of technological innovation. Not so long ago, Southern Cal was the worlds 7th largest economy and people were moving here in droves. The meme of that day was that too many people are moving here too fast. The largest companies have stayed in CA despite taxes and regulation because Ca is a HUGE market for goods and services. Even State Farm, in the day when they were being hit with huge bad faith judgements said the same. The market here is too much for any company to give up. We have great natural resources and varied climates and geography. Let the three people who seemed to have ALOT of time on their hands when they debated the subject keep complaining and we who are happy here will thumb our noses at them and everyone else who is going to crazy ass red states like Fla and Tx.
