It really doesn’t matter since Obamacare and its 2,700 pages of mandates, taxes and regulation will force up the premiums to levels we can’t imagine.

I think wellness incentives are still a good idea. Look at the study of this employer, they had a dramatic reduction in hospitalizations although in the first 2 year period higher costs for office visits, prescriptions etc. However stretch it out over a 10-15 year period. Don’t you think the wellness efforts targeting those 6 major health categories will lead to improved health and less costly hospitalizations down the road?

BTW wellness incentives have been around long before “Obamacare” so this is not a new thing.

If anyone believes this will reduce Healthcare costs in the near future, I have some swamp land in Kansas to sell you. By the way, in Japan, many big companies have employees doing exercise before work. They have been doing it for decades. Many of our PreX people are morbidly obese and haven’t hit a lick for years. They would just keel over if they had to do mandatory exercise before work. It may be ok for younger employees, but the 40-65 age group would be at risk for heart attack.

Interesting but little is mentioned about how stress affects health and well being. Thee are life events like identity theft and being accused and charged with an offense you did not commit because of it,that no amount of broccoli or gym memberships can address. Yet studies show that you are twice as likely to be in court than you would be a hospital. To me it begs the question are we missing something here? Wellness incentives are a great idea, but are they enough?

Brian, we are stressed every day about how bad our government is acting and how it affects our lives. Add all the stress an agent feels with the insurance market with its ups and downs and it is no wonder our blood pressure is elevated. The only ones who seem to feel little stress are the entitlement crowd who are gleeful to continue to collect all their benefits at our expense which is sure to bankrupt the country in the near future.
