Clearly an unacceptable amount of American’s approve of insurance fraud, and I suspect an even greater amount of people wont admit it, but speaking for those who don’t I believe a re-think of how we deal with these parasites and the insurers who fail to deal with them is important.
Perhaps there’s an opportunity through underwriting to discover the moral whims of applicants and shift the fiscal burden to where it belongs.

T, We see the evidence of insurance fraud every day. Professional claimants abound. Everything from staged auto accidents, slips and falls in stores, Workers Comp fraud at work, you name it and they will try it. Lawyers are in cahoots with unscrupulous doctors to try to jack up the medical costs to win big cases against insurance carriers. Unfortunately, most carriers will settle rather than fight a claim since legal costs are so great. This is one of the reasons insurance costs have gone up. One of our clients had a vendor fall off a ladder at one of their locations, the man was covered under WC, but he filed a GL claim against our insured saying we caused him to fall. Rather than fight, the carrier paid so the guy double dipped for WC & GL. We had to move the account to another carrier. What a travesty!

This comes down to a moral issue. Young people are not taught right from wrong anymore at home. They are also taught that they are “entitled” at school. They see a society with their hand out to government and say why not. The Insurance Companies are seen as the evil rich and why not rip them off for everything they can get. This is a tragedy that our country has gone down so much. Basic honesty is a thing of the past.

These are the same persons that will search for another carrier if their rate is increased. There are a few carriers out there telling us we should shop all the time. I Figure if I change 3 times the last carrier wil actually be paying me money for the honor of my business. I continue to sift all the sand to find the pearls {customers}that appreciate insurance for what it is.

Some of the dufus iphone crowd will surf the net for quotes and have no idea what they are buying and do not receive insurance advice from the online marketers. They are basically order takers and most are unlicensed. That is a recipe for disaster.

Carriers have contributed to the fraud problem by creating a hostile claim environment that seeks to discredit legitimate policyholders. People simply do not like or trust insurance companies anymore. Companies need to improve customer service (look at our own relationships with underwriters now).

I suggest you find a different moniker Agent2. You don’t speak for me. My customers like our carriers just fine, especially when the claim is handled in a professional manner and payment issued in a timely manner. What we don’t like is a carrier who has liability to our customer jacking around and not handling the claim or admitting they are liable even with evidence to the contrary. I can’t tell you how many times I have reported Allstate, State Farm & Farmers for unfair claims practices over the years.
