Always has been on the same program. The US Department of Agriculture is in charge of the food security programs- and that’s where nutrition programs, food stamps, school lunch, food inspections and keeping farmers in business (in good times and bad) all merge together.

10.5 billion cut over 10 years is not a cut, given baseline budget. They have never seen a cut that they like.

They have signs at National Parks that say – Please don’t feed the animals or they might become dependent on it. The waste and fraud in the Agriculture Dept is a disgrace. Food stamps are at the top of the list followed by paying farmers to not grow crops in order to keep the prices high. They should be growing crops for export and they would do well and it wouldn’t be at taxpayer expense.

Although I am a strong supporter of the small family farm I question subsidies to the corporate farmers. I can not at the moment recall the number but have read that the number of food stamp recepients is at an all time high under this potus, so I have a feeling that some who currently receive subsidy should more than likely be pulled from the program.

If they really want to improve the program though they should limit the types of foods to basic staple items only, I find it ooutrageous that food stamp recipients are allowed to buy high end cuts of meat and McDonalds with the debit card, this is just abuse. I was in line at a Circle K quickmart and the gal in front of me was using her foodstamp card to buy ice cream for the kids in her neighborhood. Why would you spend $2.50 or more per item at Circle K rather than a box of 10 at the gerocery store?

I understand know becouse you do not value the money asyou did not have to work for it.

I agree. We need to limit what can be purchased with Food Stamps. I see families buying potato chips, candy, dog and cat food with food stamps. I worked in a supermarket years ago when I was in high school and we had a list of what could or could not be purchased with food stamps and it was rung up separately. Food Stamps were originally supposed to provide basic nutritional needs for poor families. We need to go back to the basics.

I agree with you on the subsidies to corporate farms.

However why should someone on food stamps not be allowed to buy a higher end cut of meat, should they eat dog food?? Why shouldn’t a mom be able to buy a popsicle for her child? If someone on food stamps can budget their food stamp budget to make that work, more power to them (you try living on that food budget and tell me how you do).

Also, there is often an issue for low income folks to GET to the places with more affordable food. If a low income person has no transportation available or cannot take the 3 busses to get to a grocery store. They may be limited to buying groceries at convenience stores or marts with higher costs.

There was a portion of the HBO documentary “The Weight of the Nation” which showed so much about access to food being an issue for many. (It was framed in a nutrition and weight loss discussion, but could easily be looked at with a filter of low income, food stamp eligible recipients).

Ask the good people of West Virginia how their livlihoods have been affected by your EPA shutting down the coal industry. Actually, our third world cities exist in the northern blue states. All one has to do is look at Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland to realize that. Detroit has to be managed by the state now due to their corruption, bad management, union contracts and blight.

Given you’ve twice now talked about what someone said after an incident (9/11 bombing, no one could have seen this coming comment as if it meant something, and then Bush’s comment about Osama as if it meant something)

And given that you correlated a 2012 election map to subsidies which were in place before the election, in order to make a point as to which party supports subsidies, rather than who actually created them,

I would say you are partisan, and thus Agent has a good reason to throw insults.

The comments you make are defamatory against republicans.

Incorrect. Let’s compare for example California, Washington, to Texas, the most conservative state. California is beyond the point of bad in deficits.

There are some bad and some good in both sides. Red states are not at all about taking more than they receive. If your method to make an argument is to attack my character to win points…Well it shows a lot about you being a piece of crap. Which is nothing new to me.

I don’t do twisted rationales, so If I were you I’d shut your mouth. My rants are generally directing many more issues than most can handle.

Since reading comprehension does not appear to be your strong suit, let me reiterate. This is not about state deficits, it is only about comparing Federal taxes paid vs Federal spending received by state. (see http://www.economist.com/blogs/dailychart/2011/08/americas-fiscal-union)
For this point I will make the assumption that Blue states are those that voted for Obama in the 2012 election and Red states voted for Romney.
When you look at the chart, you will notice that there is only 1 Red state in the top 10 states showing a Federal tax surplus; 16 of the 20 states showing a surplus are Blue states; and 20 of the 29 states showing a deficit are Red states.
            These are facts.

Celtica, it is not OK for farmers to be paid for not growing crops in any state. You insinuate that only the Red States are the farm states. Many of the top farming states are in the north. Have you heard of Nebraska, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri? Yes, they do a little farming in these areas, but they also receive a lot of subsidies for not growing unless it is corn and then they get subsidized for growing for ethanol. What a terrible idea! That program has an abysmal record and any mechanic will tell you that ethanol will harm an engine over time and cause repairs to injectors. It also cuts down on mileage of any car running 10% ethanol. Regular unleaded without ethanol is much cleaner and mileage is up to 10% better.

In checking a bit of history, subsidies for not growing food was started by FDR.

FDR also believed that increasing the cost of food benefitted the middle class.

As Obama believes that increasing the cost of houses will benefit the middle class.

            Let’s review something real quick:

Will there always be people who don’t go to college?

            Check, yes.

Will that mean low housing costs always benefit those with the lowest paying jobs who may not have a need to go to college?

            Check yes.

So then, Obama made low housing costs not exist for low income people, in order to ensure they would need more government support? Check yes.

So then, FDR raised the cost of food to make sure more people needed food stamps? Check yes here.

Food stamps/subsidies are democrat ideals. Not republican. This is not even a matter of opinion. Speaking voting trends in areas does not direct who started them, who voted for them etc.

Which candidates in those states voted for food subsidy bills? Name them, name the bill.

You’re wrong. And you like taking a correlation to causation argument rather than looking up the bills. You do the same for the state of Texas. Methodology Celitica.

            JW:

No. I did not miss the point. Someone made a point that food stamps should be cut, and democrats refuse to. Celitica said so it’s ok for people to grow food and sit around and that’s peachy.

First of all: Food stamps are important when thinking about food subsidies. They originally existed on the theory that if you raised the cost of food, (cost total. The government’s cost is a cost) by paying people not to grow food, or grow certain types of food, you could change the amount of revenues received by farms or change their costs for foods you want them to cost higher for. The result was actually an increase in the cost of healthy food, and a decrease in cost of things made with corn. Revenues went up for farms, for crud. Everything else went up in cost.

Celitica made the argument that red states also do farm subsidies. I countered with: Show me that those states passed a bill in 2012, and who voted for it. Correlation does not equate to causation. But moreover, I showed that FDR started subsidies, and pushed for people after the raise in food cost to need food stamps. Subsidies were used in a way to increase the cost of food that food stamps now pay for.

            Get it?

Food stamps, as a result of the higher cost of food, is related.

“So the Republicans support farmers NOT to grow and to SIT around in those red farm states. Somehow, that’s okay…”

“How many people are on food stamps that shouldn’t be? Get rid of the fraud and abuse in the system and we could save BILLION$.
