He may be grasping at straws, but you’ve got to admit it’s kind of brilliant. He can’t get rid of the law with a head-on assault, but maybe he can trip it up using privacy concerns.

A lot of people are getting fed up with the Republicans just trying to flat out repeal the law. It’s never going to happen while Obama is in office and the Democrats control the Senate, and contained repeal attempts make them look ineffective and foolish. But, protecting financial and medical privacy is something everyone can get behind. No one is going to argue that they don’t care about their privacy. So this is going to have to be addressed. If it’s not, the argument will be made that the administration doesn’t care about privacy, and the backlash against the ACA will be even bigger.

They couldn’t get Al Capone on racketeering, drug running or murder, so they went after him on tax evasion charges. Tax evasion isn’t quite as sensational as murder, but the end results were the same. He still ended up in jail. It’s the same with this. The Republicans can’t just repeal the law, but maybe with this, they can halt it. It’s not quite as definitive as an outright repeal, but it still stops it from going into force. For a while anyway.

This whole PPACA issue has made me think long and hard about the appropriate role of our elected representatives. I get quite angry when I see continued Republican efforts to “undermine” the law – it is the law, after all. On the other hand, it is their job to represent their contituencies, and a large chunk of the population is opposed to this law.

Are there other precedents of laws which have been so blatantly undermined by politicians? It seems to me that the appropriate response to a law you oppose is to make an effort to repeal it; and of course the US House has made a comedically large number of attempts. But between the PR efforts to spread misinformation and fear, and the strategic efforts to strangle the law by undermining efforts to implement it, I think Republicans have gone too far. Someone please convince me that these conservative tactics over the past few years are normal tactics within a well-functioning democracy. Please? I love me some democracy.

Hey. That’s Mitch. That’s what he does. Remember when he abused his office by trying to block West Virginia University’s entrance into the Big 12 confrence (in favor of his alma matter Louisville) until WV Senator Bill Manchin called him out on it and told him to stop abusing his position as a Sentor. McConnell is so much a part of the overall problem in Washington. Rarely does he do anything in the public interest. He’s hurting in the KY polls in his re-election bid too. KY do us all a favor, vote him out.

Ensuring the data security of our personal, financial and medical data is of the utmost importance and if the exchanges aren’t secure yet, the opening should be delayed. No matter what you think of Obamacare or Mitch McConnell, everyone should at least agree on this point.

We have yet to receive any substantial evidence that it is not, &/or will not be, secure for the 10/1/13 roll-out. Only an official saying they have missed some self-imposed deadlines for testing. That is not the same thing as saying the system is not secure. Everyone just needs to hold their horses and let them do what they need to do. After all, the U.S. government is expert at high-tech security and how to break it. Relax and take a deep breath.

FFA, I didn’t think it would be long before the Libtards on this forum started calling for McConnell’s head. It is a fact that information going into the exchanges will be shared by at least 7 different agencies and the opportunity for hackers to steal identities will provide a rich field to mine. Given all the thieve geeks out there waiting for the opportunity and all the scandals already exposed, I don’t have any confidence that information will be protected. I also don’t think the exchanges have enough power in their sites to handle the influx of applicants. This is an unmitigated disaster, but Planet & Libby are still whistling a happy tune.

Actually, liberals were the ones to put forth and support the idea of a round Earth. The conservatives, as they’ve done all throughout history, were opposed to such new ideas as a round Earth. They were also the ones who wanted to stay under the rule of England. They didn’t like those libtards with their crazy ideas about freedom and liberty. They didn’t like those libtards otherwise known as our founding fathers. It’s no wonder the conservatives want to change the history books to cover up all of the times they’ve been proven wrong.

            He is a liar.

And I can prove it beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Any moderate who insults Reagan’s economics as the problem with the country is not a moderate to start with.

Anyone who supports single payer would not vote republican, and it is not a moderate. Single payer option, can be conservative. Single payer only is not moderate.

When you combine that with his comments regarding religions and the religious right, he is not a moderate. He talks exactly like a liberal.

Looks like one, talks like one, is one.

Remember the 2006 midterm elections in which Republicans ultimately took a major beating? Sen. Mitch McConnell privately asked President Bush in a White House meeting to pull some troops out of Iraq in order to boost the GOP’s chances. But, in the same month, September 2006, he publicly jumped on Democrats for calling for a reduction of troops in Iraq, saying that their position endangered Americans. So, you see, Mitch would lie to the American people, and even put our soldiers at risk, just as soon as he would eat a corn dog. The source of that private chat was none other than George W. Bush. So, I guess old GWB doesn’t have much affinity for this con-man either.
What do people see in Mitch McConnnell?? Please, if you are from the great state of KY or are a republican tell me why this guy should still be in Washington? What good has he ever done? While he has awesome health care for the rest of his life, he is happy to deny it to the same citizens he was elected to serve.
Even G. W. Bush laughs at him.

Well Detroit for one will give Chicago a run for the money any day. How about this:

            * Recent Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick(D) corrupt and stealing from the city and pay to play. Indicted by the Feds on 36 counts convicted on 34. Will be sentenced September and will get 20 plus years in the Graybar Hotel.
            * Monica Conyers, wife of Congressman John Conyers (D) Michigan, convicted of taking bribes and sentenced to prison. Just got out. (I am sure the wife never told the husband about the bribes)
            * The Murder at the Mayors Mansion- Supposedly Kwame Kilpatrick had a drug and alcohol wing ding at the mayor’s mansion. He brought in strippers. One named “Strawberry” was lap dancing the Mayor when the Mayor’s wife lovely “Carlita” took a baseball bat to her head. Killed her and supposedly a detail dumped the body in Detroit. They found the body but can’t prove the crime— yet.
            * City Council gave jobs to people who never worked. There was an emergency manager put in place for the school system because it was– you guessed it– broke. Come to find out there were 367 people collecting paychecks from the school system who never went to work and never had jobs. The city council members are now being replace by another group of (D) crooks.
            * The Water system director (The city owns the water system and sells to metro cities) was arrested and convicted for taking bribes. He was sentenced to a couple years.

            On and on and on.

I’m going to now look up a bit about that Mitch incident, as to whether it was before or after the troops actually were withdrawn that Mitch made that “supposed” comment about democrats being bad for removing Iraq troops. If it were after, then I’m sorry to say I would agree with him for telling Bush W to go with public opinion because he is not psychic and would not know that 2007 as a result had more U.S. Troop deaths. If he made the comment in 2007, which I’m thinking there is a good chance he did (as that was a bad death year for our troops) he was well within his bounds.

            Ron,

            I do provide sources.

            Now go @#%@% yourself kid.

Not to mention most of my comments don’t need sources, and I don’t say that to say that facts don’t need sources.

For example: If I state something like Obama passed obamacare, do I need to prove that?

If I state that Obama passed QE, and that QE had a direct affect on housing, because it allowed banks to buy houses up at low costs rather than consumers, do I need a source? No. Any source would be a further opinion piece. All I need is to show the cost of houses, which you already know and I don’t need to state, and let you extrapolate.

Listen kiddo, I know you think you’re clever, but you’re not.

You scream just out of college. You think you have things figured out. You don’t.

Now that I’m done directing you, which I don’t often do, back off. I don’t need some kid trying to pretend my comments don’t have substance, especially one who keeps saying “I’m not saying” and then says something that does say it AKA your “I’m not saying capitalism harms gas prices, but nationalized countries have cheaper oil and Bush W had high oil costs with capitalism” Well then, you’re linking it.

Don’t lie about what you’re doing while you do it.

And if you want to put together a full picture about gas prices, I’m more than ready and willing to discuss it and how regulations in a capitalistic society can directly affect gas costs, including the price controls around the Carter gas crises era, which when removed resulted in gas prices going down and settling at $1 per gallon during Clinton’s presidency, and then I can point out in real world examples how QE has affected the cost of oil, something Obama has continued to pass.

            THAT is a researched comment.

Now do you want me to give you about 500 sources?

Because that’s how many it will take. Or you could use your brain, and look it up a bit.

Actually D, I remember the 2010 mid term “shellacking” after the Dems pushed through Obamacare over the objections of the American People. Nancy said she had to pass it for us to see what was in it. It was passed by threat, intimidation, bribes (See Cornhusker Kickback, Louisiana Purchase)and many Blue Dog Democrats promptly lost their seats for voting for it without reading it. After three years, it is still very unpopular and it keeps falling apart after mandates are delayed, concerns of IT security and reports of much higher premiums on the way. Politicians who are running for re-election are not running on the merits of Obamacare or they do so at their own risk.

The Right continues to take Nancy Pelosi out of context. So, let’s provide that context:

I’m so old, I remember everyone was talking about the process of passing the bill at the time Nancy made this statement. Everyone was losing sight of all the benefits of the bill, like a ban on denying health coverage because of a pre-existing conditions, support for public health infrastructure, more spending on community health centers and reductions in uncompensated care by hospitals. Pelosi also says in her speech the plan won’t require anyone to pay a deductible for preventive health care doctor visits. I think it’s also important to note, the entire legislation was available online for anyone to read at the time of her statement.

Many in Congress were arguing about how the bill was going to be passed rather than actually reading the legislation. For those who were not performing their due diligence, Nancy was right. It would have to pass it so they would see all the benefits of the reform. Meanwhile, I had already read the bill, in its entirety, once online. I personally didn’t need it to be passed to see what was in it.

So Planet, what do you think about the latest revelation that out of pocket maximums written into the bill will be disregarded now for at least a year? Do you think there is a possibility that the Individual maximum out of pocket will rise higher than the “guaranteed” amount of $6,350 per Individual and $12,700 for families? I think there is a distinct possibility when people apply to find much higher out of pocket under all the options available.

Private companies have the option of delaying, but they are not being mandated to delay by the government. Companies who are looking to grow will see less out of pocket expenses as a competitive advantage. The delay is still up to the discretion of the private company. And, given the exchanges, the individual shopping for healthcare can juxtapose the private carriers’ plans and choose the one best for him or her, including the amount of out-of-pocket expense he or she can best financially handle.

I think there is a distinct possibility there will be many hiccups along the way. This is a seriously heavy lift. One that is necessary, though. Do you think anyone believed there weren’t going to be wrinkles along the way? No one in their right mind would think this was going to be 100% perfected at implementation/launch date. Even an IT solution overhaul gives companies fits for at least a year. The user submits a ticket, IT resolves the issue, interface improves and and user continues to progress until the next issue. Eventually, all bugs are determined and corrected, and user has an efficient system and is better able to produce.

Article this morning in the local paper citing healthcare insurers and the cost of ACA. According to the reporter business and corresponding healthcare insurers were surveyed and found out:

*3 out of 4 businesses and their employees do not want ACA implemented.

    * The deductibles, in some cases (generally small business and individual purchasers who are not eligible for any subsidy) will see their deductibles raise to a point where the deductible is more than the cost of coverage.

    * Midwest states (they cited Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Pennsylvania) will see the individual and small business rates rise up to 88% and deductibles could double.

    * 70% of employees under the age of 30, when surveyed said they would pay the penalty rather than buy the insurance as it is cheaper. If they become sick or injured they will go to the hospital and have their parent or spouse sign them up for coverage thus getting insurance for nothing and circumventing the cost.

“As of June, proposed monthly premiums in nine states for the benchmark level of medical coverage were less than congressional estimates, according to a study at the time from Avalere Health, a Washington-based consulting company.”

Sarge only listed FIVE that were going to go up. Hmmmmm. NINE going DOWN. FIVE going UP. I’ll have to check my calculator, but I think more are going down than up, FFA.

Watch Sgt Major’s “facts”, too, by the way. The source he listed is, “local paper” – just sayin’.

Sargeant, the predictable Libby & Planet mocking of your post was expected. I wonder what will happen if the Enroll America campaign for younger participants falls flat. If the enrollment is primarily the PreX sick people and not the healthy, this will go down as a very big travesty and the law will implode as we have been saying all along. They are gambling and it is on our dime.

I know you pray for that every night, Agent. You are just aching to say “I told you so.” Aren’t you?
