If housands of similar counselors have been helping applicants in the Medicare program for years, why are we all up in arms now?
How about DMV workers or hospital workers? We give them our social security number without hesitation. Do you know if their employers give them a background check?
This is just more mountain-out-of-molehill fear tactics and propaganda.
Let’s see. Navigators with 20 hours training, no background checks or fingerprinting to make sure they are legitimate and we are supposed to hand over to them our Socials, income info which will be sent to 7 Federal Agencies in the Government. What could possibly go wrong with that scenario. Is there a possibility of ID theft for unsuspecting applicants? The scammers will have a field day for sure.
Libby, Agent may be the type who wants the government to get their hands off his Medicare!
The same ones who are stinking about this are those that share it on web based applications without hesitation. It’s the same ol’ same ol’ – be afraid, be very very afraid. Like maybe orange alert afraid?

When you go to the hospital, you give the registrar your social, birthdate, address and your credit card (if you have a copay). That registrar will have access to that information any time of day. That registrar does not have a background check. Most hospitals have basic privacy policies, but just telling someone not to do it doesn’t mean they’ll be good.

Remember that when you sign up for Medicare.

That doesn’t fit the Fox News narrative, jw. Prepare to be thumbed down.
No doubt. I was just the registration manager, what do I know?
