Side B- Strengthen our nations backbone by continuing (and improving) subsidy programs for farmers so corners arent continuously cut (i.e. reduce salmonella outbreaks, toxins in food, etc), and enable the 15% of Americans who trully need assitance to maximize that assistance- forcing the loophole 15% to get out and work for it like the rest of us.
Many years ago when farmers had weather disasters or losses,they had to depend on ad hoc government assistance. There is no other occupation like agriculture where you can do everything right and still suffer a devastating loss due to something they cannot control-the weather. Hence, crop insurance was formed. It was felt it was cheaper to subsidize the farmers premium because the farmers themselves now have a way to protect their operation by purchasing crop insurance and paying a premium. and keep their head above water in case of a loss. Crop insurance does not make a person money. THere has been some fraud found and those who participate in this fraud should be banned from crop insurance and spend some time in jail. What bothers me is that most Americans do not realize how important agriculture is to this country not only for a big bulk of our food but also we have higher standards. We must support agriculture and make it able for the producer to operate the following year after a disaster or loss year. If the farmer goes under, will someone from another country be buying up the farmground?? This is happening. Safe, plentiful food is vital to our nation and the world. Would you want to start depending on other countries for a bulk of our food supply? Remember the embargoes we imposed on other countries? There would be countries salivating at the mouth to do this to us. As for the food stamps, we need more industry and jobs that pay a wage that can support a family. Also, food stamps should not become a way of life. Everyone will help someone down on their luck but there needs to be new rules for welfare assistance. Why is food stamps part of the agriculture bill anyway?

Yes and no. The biggest problem is the sheer size of the program. I’m not sure there is any way to weed out the over subsidized. Cutting the entire program by 10-25% is the best way to start.
Does anyone remember this President saying he would focus on the economy like a “laser”? If we had good economic policy, fiscal restraint from the Federal Government, incentives for employers to hire, there would be very few on food stamps. Instead of recovering the economy, he wants to expand the nanny state, increase the deficit until bankruptcy happens.
Now that Obama got his increase in the debt limit, it took him no time to get back to his same mindless mantra, spend, spend, spend. Despite $17 trillion in debt and $1 trillion annula deficits. Debt problem? We have no debt problem!

Data that’s not 3-4 years old might be more helpful. I see NY has a $1.3 Bil deficit this year. Working that same I’m compassionate with other peoples money plan I see.

Put food stamps in perspective…. our congress feels people on food stamps are getting too much of our money.. well, at $174,000 per year (NOT INCLUDING BENEFITS) that means they collect $476.71 PER DAY, $3346.15 PER WEEK or $14,500 PER MONTH. and yet they feel that $4.16 per day for food is outrageous.. anyone else think we have managed to grow our own entitled royalty in America? MEGA-FARMS collect more subsidies than Mom & Pop farms..
Well, not everyone in Congress feels that way. The Tea Party fringe certainly does. I’d like to see them order their meals for $4.16/day. They wouldn’t be able to feed themselves let alone their families. So how about those boot straps? Can I boil and eat them?
Here is the simple food stamp fix. For people that have iPhones, have them have their food stamps as an app. For people that don’t, have them still keep the credit card assistance. Then when they get up to the register, don’t allow the ones with the iPhone app to work. Pretty simple to weed out who needs it, and who’s abusing it.
Oh, some more iPhone-envy. I was given mine for FREE when I signed up for a 2 year mobile plan. I do not have a home phone, so the cell is my only phone outside of work. Do you think it’s possible someone on food stamps might do the same thing? A basic mobile phone plan can run you about $50/month, maybe less. So, this whole iPhone argument is straight up bogus, yo!
So long as can still send $1.5B to Egypt and other countries that hate us, lets cut food stamps and let Americans go hungry. After all, its way more important to make sure the Pakistanis get fed… After all, they did hide Bin Ladden from us.
