It’s a little late in the game for a “fix,” considering it is mid-November and many of these cancellations will go into effect January 1. My husband was on an individual plan and we received notice in late September that his plan was being cancelled, and we have since made other health insurance arrangements. He liked his plan, but it’s too late for him to keep it.

Even if the Obama administration and Congress move at warp speed, there are only seven weeks until January 1. I can’t imagine what a nightmare this would be for the insurance carriers who already have the architecture in place for these plans to expire and be replaced, and now they must continue offering them.

Assuming you could keep your same “substandard” plan in 2014 that you had in 2013, the insurance company would need to calculate and communicate the new 2014 rates based on that plan. The only 2014 rates available now are for the new “affordable” plans. Calculating and communicating new rates takes time, resources, and will be confusing to policyholders who were already told the plan was no longer offered (and may have already switched). What a mess.

Yes Integrity, the Arrogant One thinks he can wave his magic wand and issue an Executive Order for the cancellations to be rescinded or belay the cancellations due to go out. I can see the executives at Blue Cross, United Healthcare and others saying to themselve, they want us to do what? We have spent 3 1/2 years in the compliance phase on this rollout, they said we couldn’t sell plans that didn’t fit the mandated coverage and now they want us to recall 5 million policies for a year.

I saw a comment by the Health Insurance Association that if this is followed, it will completely de-stablize the Health Insurance market and higher premiums will be the result. They know they will have to take all those PreX people with the attending conditions.

I don’t think the sheep will be quite that blind. “Cancelled plans can be kept for a year” is not a fix. It’s a wet bandaid on a severed artery.

Then you go to the insurers. Are they going to play ball? They don’t have to. What’s Obama going to do? Short of paying the insurers for keeping the policies, there is no motivation or incentive for insurance companies to recind the cancellations.

This will be a mini AIG type deal where the government comes in to rescue all these health boys that bought into the scheme thinking they were going to make a bunch of money on higher premiums and the taxpayers subsidizing the premiums. jw, your reference to a severed artery is a good example only the severed artery is on the American People and we will be bled dry in higher premiums, higher taxes and inferior coverage if we can find it.

no it wasn’t, Celtica. It was Cheney’s. Everyone knows that he and Bush are these secret masterminds who lied to the American public and convinced the international community that Saddam had WMDs so that the US would go into Iraq for no reason at all (even going so far as to fool the Clintons, Kerry, Biden, and the majority of the Democrats into supporting such action).

Actually, it was George HW Bush’s fault for lying about raising taxes. Ok, it was really Reagan’s fault because of the Iran Contra affair. What? Oh, I mean it was Lincoln’s because he suspended Habeas Corpus during the Civil War. Yeah, that’s it…Those Evil Republicans have been scheming all throughout history in the hopes that a man named Barack Obama would someday become President, cram a worthless bill down the throats of the American public, blame everyone else around him until finally having to admit that he was wrong. Interesting calling this a “fix”. Does that mean the Fix is In? I guess that depends on what the definition of is is per the Clinton Administration. The blame game is the left’s way to get out of any situation. This is their problem from day one and they are desperately seeking to blame either Republicans, George Bush, the insurance industry, free market Capitalism or any other thing to avoid responsibility for this colossal mess. Anyone who voted for this should be recalled by their state and dismissed from office or brought up on charges for High Crimes & Misdemeanors. The President should resign for the good of the country before he is impeached like Nixon did. Biden (this is a big f#$**** deal) was a willing participant so he should go too. I think we would then be down to John Boehner to take over. As bad as he has been, it would be an improvement to what we have now.

Did anyone see AHIP’s response to the announced fix today?
America’s Health Insurance Plans’ President and CEO, Karen Ignagni, released the following statement on today’s announcement by the president related to policy cancellations:
“Making sure consumers have secure, affordable coverage is health plans’ top priority. The only reason consumers are getting notices about their current coverage changing is because the ACA requires all policies to cover a broad range of benefits that go beyond what many people choose to purchase today.

“Changing the rules after health plans have already met the requirements of the law could destabilize the market and result in higher premiums for consumers. Premiums have already been set for next year based on an assumption of when consumers will be transitioning to the new marketplace. If now fewer younger and healthier people choose to purchase coverage in the exchange, premiums will increase and there will be fewer choices for consumers. Additional steps must be taken to stabilize the markteplace and mitigate the adverse impact on consumers.”

This is what happens when ideologists with no business experience are elected to run a whole country. They haven’t a clue and think they can wave their magic wand to solve all problems. Well, that is not how things work in the real world and, sadly, we are all suffering from that in one way or another. The end result is those of us who are working (and there are fewer of us compared to the past) will all pay much more in taxes if Obamacare continues in place because none of the faulty assumptions made are likely to come to pass. As the middle class gradually disappears, the liberal agenda will have been realized: everyone equal – equally miserable – like in third world countries.

If you were around like I was during the Carter years, the misery index was off the charts with high interest rates, energy crisis, high unemployment, little business activity. I thought that 4 years would never be over. Thank God we had Ronnie come along in shining armour to rescue the country from Democratic Progressive rule and get that sorry peanut farmer out of there. I don’t think you understand the debt and deficit relationship. National debt is the accumulation of national deficits. So if Obama has been reducing the deficits so well how has the national debt increased so much under his rule?

I doubt I will get an answer from that because there is no way that you can keep decreasing the deficit each year but yet increase national debt at a higher rate than ever (I am serious if I am missing the math here that makes your statement work please inform me). I believe however that your math is pretty much just dead wrong. Since President Obama entered the White House, the national debt has increased by an average of more than $64,000 per taxpayer. In fact, Obama will become the first president to run deficits of more than a trillion dollars during each of his first four years in office.During the Obama administration, the federal government has accumulated more new debt than it did from the time that George Washington became president to the time that Bill Clinton became president. The 10 highest monthly budget deficits have all occurred since February 2009. Those are all facts.

But I am not giving Bush a pass either as he was almost as terrible as Obama in raising the debt. (which I find ironic that the Bush and Obama supports fight over who made the economy worse than the other). The big picture is that for decades we have been ruining the US economic landscape. In 1970 our total government debt equaled $371 billion. Today it stands at around $17 trillion. Even if we adjust for inflation, federal government debt has increased more than eight times what it was in 1970. It took from 1789 to 2001 to accumulate a federal debt of $5.8 trillion. However, our government officials have added a nearly identical $5.8 trillion in four short years between 2007 and 2011.

Another fun fact: Talking in trillions of dollars can easily boggle the mind. To provide some perspective on the magnitude of our current debt, think about this: If you were alive at year zero and spent one million dollars every day since that point, you still would not have spent one trillion dollars yet.

Now that is eye opening. And very depressing. Is there a way out of the debt/deficit mess?

The way I see it there are three options. Default, Inflation, or Austerity.

Austerity would be my vote, but it would require large, huge changes to government spending. I don’t see austerity every happening as it that would require a massive amount of change in societal perspective and motivated politicians.

I think we will end up inflating our way out of debt because no politician or federal reserve representative wants a default on their resume. Inflation though will cause a dollar crises unfortunately and will effect all countries worldwide that use the dollar as a reserve currency. QE is the first step to this inflationary “solution” and even though there are talks of slowly reducing QE I don’t see that happening at all, if anything they will start increasing it when Yellen steps in.

Dear Monica, Can you go hook up with Bill and “not have sex” with him. He did his country a service and deserves to “not have sex”. I can look the other way this time while you thank him in your special way.

FFA, the biggest surprise I had during the Clinton years was that Monica was not found floating face down in the Potomac. As you know, many of their friends, colleagues, employees met untimely deaths during that time with the biggest ones being Vince Foster and Ron Brown. Good thing that blue dress showed up to save her life, wasn’t it?

And therein is the biggest difference between Clinton and Bush.

When Clinton lied, no one died.
When Bush lied, our sons and daughters died in a foreign land for naught.

FFA- what do you think Monica was doing under the desk? playing Peek a boo with Bill? Or was it Jenifer Flowers, or Kathleen Twilly and of course he had no sex with Paula Jones or Barbara Streisand. I suppose if you were married to Hillary I can understand why you might not want to come home at night unless you have a grocery bag you can cut to holes in for her to put over her head and some duct tape for her mouth.LOL

And when Obama and Hillary lied – 4 men died in Benghazi. Or did you forget about them? We will ever forget them and the lies this administration told because you know “What difference does it make?” Shamefull! Obama bold faced lied to the parents of these fallen men. If that doesn’t show this adminstration true colors nothing will. The are in bed with the devil himself.

Which lie are you referring too? Obama has told so many it’s hard to keep track of them all. When the 4 were killed there were lies before and after the well planed terrorist attack on the consulate. It was first due to a video shaming Mohammad by someone in the USA that went viral. Right, that’s it, that’s the ticket. And coincidentally the attack happened on 09/11/2012 oddly enough. And while they were taking the remains of the 4 that were killed off an aircraft Obama and Hillary lied straight faced to the family members there to collect their loved ones that this horrific tragedy was caused by the video and that the perpetrator was in custody or something to that affect. Very shameful and hurtful as well.

Found this in another IJ article:

“MIT health economist Jonathan Gruber, who helped design the healthcare law, said its authors had expected 6 million people in the individual market would lose their plans in 2014 and that insurers had made drastic changes based on the belief they would have access to those members.”

Proof, in writing, of the lie about keeping your plan. I wasn’t impressed before, now I’m disgusted.

Yes jw, he is a real sweetheart Progressive Socialist whose plan was to get rid of all the Individual market and herd the folks like cattle into the exchanges as a ready market. The Health market also bought into this scheme thinking they would make some serious money with the higher rates and the subsidies from the government. Now, they are saying “What”? You want us to do what? What is wrong with this picture?
