“It’s kind of logical that people who are sick would be more likely to sign up right at the beginning.”

Yes, but tell that to the party who voted over 40 times to repeal the law, knowing very well it wouldn’t be repealed. So, not exactly a party who employs logic.

Health insurance so good it’s mandatory.

Logic says you cant get enough premium and fines (taxes) from young healthy people to pay the cost associated with older people and preexisting conditions. So, not exactly a party who employs logic.

80% that signed up are getting subsidies. You middle class folk are getting bent over again.

Well Jack, they have ads for the Millenial sitting around in his jammies drinking hot chocolate thinking about applying, the Gay boys dancing around in their underwear singing its praises for AIDS treatment, who will be next, the online text message kids who haven’t looked up from their phone in a couple of years? Pretty hard to get their attention unless you give them a free app. Oops! The premium is too high, bye, bye.

What middle class? Okay, there is a little bit of it left but 30+ years of Reaganomics has ruined it. Maybe in 10 more years, it will be gone all together if we don’t start correcting that huge toilet browning of an economic policy now.

Cap Planet- not sure where you live? But here in po-duck ville SC I see the middle class driving bmw, lexus, cadi, rover, and the 40k ford trucks all over the place. 4-5 apple phones in the households, 2 ipads and the kids with $300 bikes. The middle class is all over the place. Now I know they have taken a hit the last 5 years and the top 1% is killing it based on wall street, but its still there. Trust me, I’m writing their insurance.

You must live near that really nice and new BMW assembly plant that believe is non union? Good Jobs, well paying, non union and good benefits. The Middle class would be alive and well there. The same for the Mercedes Benz plant in Huntsville Alabama, the Toyota Plant in Georgetown Kentucky, The new Wonder plant in Texas etc.

That’s the upper middle class. Middle class is disappearing before our eyes. Perhaps not the intetion of Reaganomics, but certainly the result. Check out what the wealth gap has done over the last 30 years – you can’t dispute the evidence.

Not necessarily Captain. They are assembly line workers, electricians, pipe fitters. Ancillary businesses in town. They are good middle class jobs.

According to the recent Cato Institute study (on the news tonight) if you want to be a part of the middle class then: 1. Get an education even if you have dropped out, go back and start with your GED. 2. If you are a female, don’t get pregnant and be a single mother and 3. Get a job even if it is a low paying job. It is a start and shows other employers you have initiative that will lead to better jobs.
I think that is better than providing and perpetuating welfare, Medicaid, HUD subsidy, food stamps, ADC, WIC, free Obamaphone etc, etc, etc

    Why !?!?!?

Why sign up for something that I don’t need now and may not need until 15 years from now. 12months x 15years x $300 Monthly Premiums ..(LOW END) = $54,000 down the DRAIN.

Also, I forgot to mention if a young person does get sick … yes they will take the initial hickie, but can’t they just sign up for healthcare the next month … no pre-existing and guaranteed issue … allows me the right to do that …

Besides there is no penalty other than the 1% of my income to do that …

No, they can’t just wait until the next month to sign up. Please familiarize yourself with the law. They have to wait until the next annual enrollment period.

So to answer your question, they would sign up for free preventative care, catastrophies, and other illnesses throughout their lives. I rarely go to the doctor myself but I pay my premium for those very reasons. Most young people I know want to be covered. I’ve even helped a few of them with the process during my free time. They were happy to pay the premium necessary to have coverage. They also thought the process was pretty easy. Win and win.

        Captain America,

You need to familiarize yourself with the LAW.

You are referring to your O so distinguished EXCHANGED or MARKETPLACE.

The Private marketplace will continue to offer coverage anytime during the year, without an OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD, such as that of GROUP INSURANCE PLANS.

Wait, that is until there is no PRIVATE INSURANCE plans out there, because of people taking advantage of the system and how it has been written. From there on out it will only be the Marketplace/Exchanges you will be able to buy insurance through. IN lieu of Group policies …

Don’t let me forget to mention this is how SOCIALZED medicine happens …

I did forget to mention that the only effective date that you can currently get on an individual health policy would be the 1st of the next month …
And that the health companies require you to have an application in by at least 15 days before your effective date.

          For Example:
If someone got hurt on the 19th of January, they would not be able to get coverage put in place until the 1st of March.

Most of their bills would be charged to them in a Major Emergency, but you can believe that the old cancers and other diseases will still be lingering in 45 days.

Morale of the story : If you get hurt … do it at least 15 days out from the 1st of the next month …

Currently there are more health options outside of the exchange than that which is in the exchange.

In certain areas, (MANY AREAS) BCBS is the only company that is operating in the exchange.

Sure you could sign up for another plan, but you would be driving 4 hours to see an in-network provider.

When they announced the numbers for the sign up, suddenly the age range changed from 18-34 to 18-38 as representing the young invincibles. I kind of think their numbers weren’t so hot so they had to raise the age. By the end of March, it will probably be up to age 45 as Invincibles.

The smart young invincible that I encounter don’t have the patents to work through all the issues with the web site. When they see $250 Co Pay after deductible, they don’t understand that they pay the Ded and then a $250 co Pay on top of that.

They don’t know to check the Docs in Network. Blue Choice is a lot different network then is Blue Cross PPO. They don’t know that there are doc Record Trans fees.

The ones dumb enough to just jump on the web and shop a cheap price are the ones that are getting royally screwed. This because they don’t use a Main St Agent.

BTW, as of yesterday, only Blue Cross and Land of Lincoln (a start up) and Aetna were the only ones offering coverage on the exchange. No Humana Quotes. No Assurant. None of the regionals.

            Agent B,

If you are truly an agent, you need to get educated or get out of the business. Do you tell your clients that they are gambling or protecting their financial assets?

Gambling is speculative risk where you have a chance to win or lose.

Insurance is for pure risk where an insured, in theory, cannot profit.

Thanks, JW. Since her accident, her meniscus is “seeping out from under her knee cap”. There is no “fix”. She is going to need a gel shot at regular intervals. When she is older, a knee replacement is in order.. This is a result of texting while driving. Still, she keeps plugging away keeping up her normal flow of activities. She can no longer get in the therapy pool that was a great help with the Fibromialga because of the knee thing.

She had to change pain docs because of the OBama Care (PPPACA) to avoid out of network charges. Yes, I have to pay the trans fee….

Its my life. I just keep plugging away. Govt intrusion into the insurance industry (Comp Reform & PPPACA) has hurt the quality of life. Working 6 days a week to replace what them aholes took from me… Looking like I am going to have to lay off another by end of the month… That’s Springfield and DC working for the people…

Just this evening CNN said that 79% of those who signed up we’re Medicaid and that 80% had subsidies. That is far from what the liar in charge and his band of idiots sold the American people. I find it interesting that when liberals need to make something look good they just change the numbers to something they like.

I am sure Obama will figure out some other way to screw us agents when people decided its best to use an agent.

I am still waiting n the day when he gets to sit on the stand and tell us what he did / did not know about Blago, Levine rezco – you know – his old pals… His pal JR being the one that wanted to buy the seat…. Wonder if Jr consulted with Obama on that matter…

    FACT,

Since the PPACA was announced in 2011; health premiums in the individual and group market have gone up more than they have in the past 10 years; IN TWO YEARS.

And yes … this is a fact from an existing book of business study.

      Agent B,

Since you like facts so much, I found this on Politifact:

“The RNC said ‘the average family premium has increased by 29% under Obama!’ The leading study confirms that rise, which occurred over the course of five years. If you calculate the increases on an annual basis, premiums have risen by about 5.8 percent a year under Obama, which is less than half of the average annual rise during the nine years before Obama took office.”

      Here is the complete article.

In the middle of Tele Marketing a 352 name & number list. Got another list of 161 that needs to be called as well as a list of over 600 to send in for a company program that is co-oped…

Going back to the basics. Bread & Butter here is P&C. Should have never got involved in OFnBama and his PPPACA. I should have know he was just out to screw agents.

            FFA,

Fair enough. I always like to put things into historical context when possible. As the Politifact article stated, health insurance premiums were actually increasing at a higher rate prior to President Obama than since he was elected. As I have said before, I do not like the PPACA, but I am more upset that the Republicans did not address this issue when they had power from 2003-07. I honestly believe that had their ideas had been implemented, there would not have been an appetite from the voters for additional health care reform.

Ron, off the top of my head, my premiums in 2008 were under $700. My Cobra premium when it expire was $820 in 2011. Then my premium jumped to over $1200, then $1400 and then for 2014, over $1600. My Cobra Ded was $1000. When I had to jump off Cobra, Ded went to $5000. That happens to be when my wife kicked it into high gear with the med bills. My Tax figure on the OOP Medical is about $11000 with over $5000 still sitting here to be paid.
I would have rather had the income over the years…
