Good idea Marco. Good luck getting it through Harry Reid. You may have to wait until after November. There is no doubt the companies will be under stress since they are expected to pick up a lot of big claims from the PreX crowd this year and from now on. Could we see some double digit rate increases?

FFA, they made their bed and now they have to sleep in it. They believed all the lies when they went to the White House about how good it would be for the industry. 30+ changes & Delays later, they are at a complete loss on what to do. Blue Cross had to hire a couple hundred people more just to handle the calls and complaints. They are sending out 3 emails a week to me on changes to the ACA. Do we cancel plans or keep them? How long do people have to sign up? What happens if young people don’t sign up? Where are the rates going if we are only taking PreX’s and policies on customers we already had on other plans? Inquiring minds want to know.

        Wrong again Agent.

When are you going to stop listening to Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity and think for yourself?

You should seriously think about going back to your college and ask for a refund of your college tuition. When you stop to do some real thinking for once in your life, you will come to two conclusions:

        1) Don’t do that
        2) You could have saved the tuition spent your college degree by paying a few dollar of fines at your community library.

I listened to Emanuel speak on NPR. He specifically talks that the role of the insurance company will evolve and not go away.

Over the next few years insurance companies will both continue to provide services to employers and, increasingly, compete against each other in the health insurance exchanges. In that role they will put together networks of physicians and hospitals and other services and set a premium.

Newly formed ACO’s (which I have talked about before) and hospital based health plans will begin competing against each other for exclusive contracts with employers. These new organizations provide a network of primary care and specialists as well as a network of hospitals for policyholders.

The reason that the traditional insurance company might “go away” and must “evolve” is because if they cannot offer the necessary services at competitive pricing to employers and individuals on the exchange-they will not gain policyholders.

All businesses must change their business model at some point Agent. Otherwise, they will all go extinct. Jeff Bezos clearly explained this in his interview on 60 Minutes.

As for Emanuel, other health professionals back his hypothesis that the ACA is generally a good piece of legislation. You need to go no further than former Senate Majority leader Bill Frist who is a board certified trauma surgeon and professor at Vanderbilt University Medical School.

It is time that you went to your local library and read Emanuel’s book Agent. But I don’t know if that would be such a good idea. You would probably burn the book and everything else you didn’t like!

To close, I reiterate the words of Harry Truman and Bill Clinton, “If you want to live like a Republican, vote for a Democrat!”

I read mises all the time and they do have quite a few very good article of the myths of Reaganomics (the best one by that very name by Rothbard). I have pointed them out to Agent and others on here but they were of course ignored.

Also funny enough, Krugman and the Keynesians have more in common with Friedman’s Chicago school of thought then any other economical school of thought. And Friedman is ironical Agent’s economic hero. And while I do admit I appreciate much of Friedman’s work, specifically free market work, he was still flawed in promoting an aggressive money printing system much like Krugman/Keynes.

        Agent,
Hope you are having a great day! Since you asked-New York, Connecticut, California and Vermont have seen large amounts of people enroll in exchanges. Moreover, Republican governors in Ohio and Nevada have complied with the state insurance exchange mandate and have seen large amounts of enrollees enlist in their states.
Here are some numbers for you. Through the exchanges, California has had 850,000 people enroll. In my state of New York, the number is close to 350,000. Washington has close to 300,000 enrollees through the program.
The main people who are affected are red states like Texas, Louisana, etc where tea bagging governors are not complying with the law.
There are still some issues. As I listened to Dr Emanuel, you are still seeing the resistance of health insurance companies to change. As you see health insurers adapt to the law , you will ACO’s and the integrated delivery systems that links physicians, specialists and hospitals become more common in the health care arena.
For example, the traditional HMO or PPO will resemble more of a Kaiser Permanente or acadmic health center health plan than coverage provided under the traditional fee-for-service plans that exist today. So, contrary to your postings (and Perplexed), health insurance companies are not going to away. They are evolving and will look different than they do away. Otherwise, they will not gain policyholders.
I think we can both agree that Kaiser Permanente is a health insurer. When I last checked, they were the largest health provider in California. Am I correct agent?
What is one not to like-higher quality service, more efficiency at cheaper prices.

Any questions Agent? I guess then…school is out. Chump!!

            Agent,
            Wrong again on Krugman.
But first, let me give some omments on the Nobel Peace Prize. The committee and nominating process for the Peace Prize is much different than the other awards (economics, physics, chemistry, etc). The Nobel prize is based on achievement for all awards except for peace. Nominations are made by experts in each field as well as past Nobel laureates from around the world. The committee that makes the final decision is independent of these experts and is based in Stockholm.
The Nobel Peace Prize has been a political football. Its nominating process is TOTALLY different than the selection of other Nobel Prize winners. First, nominations are selected and solicited NOT by experts but by members of the Norwegian Nobel Committee that is appointed by the Parliament of Norway. It is confidential (and within the committee) on how nominees are selected and a winner is chosen. Furthermore, the Nobel Prize for Peace is distinct from other Nobel Prize ceremonies in that the winner receives their award in Oslo. Other Nobel Prize ceremonies occur in Stockholm.

I agree with you in that is controversial as Obama has won a Nobel Peace Prize, as other prominent politicians and diplomats have yet to win.

For example, I am shocked that Bill Clinton has yet to win an award. His work as President on the Good Friday accords that brought about peace in Northern Island, the Dayton Accords that helped stop genocide in the Balkans combined with his work after his presidency is remarkable. It is also sad to see a person like Richard Holbrooke not to receive this reward for his career in foreign service and work to resolve intenational conflict.

Morever, I am especially shocked to see that other American politicans such as Al Gore that have done far less to aid global peace and alleviate global suffering have been given the award.

However, that is the Nobel Peace Prize. Nobel Prizes in other disciplines are different. Krugman won the Nobel Prize for his work on new trade theory explaining how economies of scale and consumer’s desire for diversity of brands help to determine trade. For example, this would explain why Toyota only concentrates production in a few countries versus the entire world (economies of scale) and how each country might specializing in producing a particular brand/product (diversity of choice).

The article was published in the Journal of International Economics which is far from being a bastion of left wing economics. Notable right of center economists who have won Nobel Prizes such as Gary Becker have also had many articles published in this journal.

As I leave Agent, I ask for you to THINK for yourself before you write. You embarass yourself when people like me, Ron, Libby, etc shoot down your ranting so easily.
Cheers, and have a great weekend Agent!

Not a Liberal – that was meant to be guffaws (or gaffes) and he made plenty of them. He was an international laughing stock and we were universally despised during his tenure.

In addition, to date, Obama has issued 172 Executive Orders. Bush, during his eight years, issued 291. He’s hardly running amok with E.O.’s.

Lastly, Congress voted to yes on Iraq based on faulty (if not intentionally fabricated, then downright incompetent) “intelligience.” Even Colin Powell couldn’t keep a straight face when presenting it to the U.N.

Ron, it is apparent that you are not having a good day since you can’t even type, spell and keep using capital letters to vent your rage. By the way, Friedman won his Nobel back when it meant something. What organization would give Obama the Nobel for doing nothing or blowing up innocent civilians with drones in Afghanistan? Krugman? Really?

        Agent,

I am a terrible typist regardless of what kind of day I am having. The capital letters are not rage, just getting your attention. I guess it worked.

You do realize that the people that award the Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences are different than the Nobel Peace Prize, right?

I absolutely agree that President Obama did nothing to deserve such an honor and should not have been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

What changed regarding the criteria from when Friedman won to when Krugman won? Please list all of the years that the Nobel Prize for Economic Sciences meant something and the facts you used to base your position. If it is soley baed on the fact that President Obama undeservidely won the Nobel Peace Prize, try again.

            Agent,

And I am Independent. Until you stop referring to me as anything but an Independent, I will continue to refer to you as a Republican.

You just do not understand my position about voter ID laws. I NEVER said there is no voter fraud. Even Republicans have been convicted of voter fraud. My position is that there is no proof that voter ID laws would stop enough voter fraud to justify the millions of dollars of taxpayer money spent to pass and uphold these laws. I read about what happened in NC and it is the same thing every time. It is voter registration and clerical errors that make up nearly all occurrences of alleged voter fraud. They found 11 people guilty of double voting over 15 states. Is growing the government more worth stopping 11 extra votes? Let’s see how much of a Conservative you are, really.

            http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2014/04/03/hundreds-cases-potential-voter-fraud-uncovered-in-north-carolina/

In addition, these laws may lead to more fraud because people will send in more absentee ballots where there is real voter fraud. That is where the focus should be, not in-person voter fraud.

            http://www.newsobserver.com/2014/04/03/3754926/attorney-nc-photo-id-wouldnt-stop.html

Read this article and tell me how voter ID laws would prevent this.

    Keywords “as we know them”.

Healthcare companies will be similar to the integrated system of academic health centers or Kaiser vs your traditional HMO or PPO.

If you look at these integrated health systems, they deliver higher quality care at lower costs.

Perplexed, I think you should change your name to bewildered. It is also time for you to think for yourself along with Agent and FFA.

    Cheers!

It’s not that we lack the capacity for independent thought, it’s that so many detractors are quoting the fear mongers instead.

I disagree with the ACA, both it’s varied rules and implementation, but it’s my opinion and I don’t support it by quoting anyone. I can’t think of anything I like about the ACA, except the initial CONCEPT of providing health insurance for the uninsured. Sadly, this law didn’t make that premise a reality. All the problems with enrollment and policies being cancelled just exacerbate the problems mandates create. We are not a society that accepts mandates without questions or push back.

Kyjw, I agree with you on this. When you have a law passed in a totally partisan way, built up on lie after lie, have idiots trying to implement it, you can see why there is so much opposition and a current 26% approval rating. My guess is that you have earned another admonition from Libby to tow the company line.

So KYjw, you must have missed the dozens of articles on Obamacare since the passage in 2010. Libby pushed hard for it and criticized all of us Conservatives for pointing out all the bad things going on with it. It really is hard to defend all the lies all the time and it certainly was a losing battle since the lies have come home to roost in the Progressive henhouse.

Hip, Hip Hooray! Sebelius has resigned from HHS. Of course, the damage has been done by now. I guess she finally got acid indigestion from being called to the hill so many times to try to lie her way out of this disaster. She never did seem to know how many really enrolled and paid a premium or how many young people enrolled or explained why families weren’t saving $2,500 a year on premiums or why the networks were losing more than half the doctors and hospitals or how many were being sent to Medicaid or how she managed to spend $1 billion on a website that didn’t work. What a joke for a public servant. She was only following orders, right?
