Maybe they’re just using the wrong names. How about Nancy, Barbara, Dianne, or Hillary? They scare the heck out of me.

Maybe we need to steal a page from SNL.

Alex, Bobby, Chris, Dana, Evelyn, Francis, Gerry…right though to the classic Pat.

    Androgeny to the rescue.

“Nana”? Who would flee from “Nana”? I’m with SWFL Agent, no one in their right mind would stick around for Hillary.

Hurricane Nana? What’s next, Hurricane Memo? Who’s afraid of Granny? What an incredibly ridiculous study.

I just remember Hurricane David (a male name) being a really bad one so that name has been retired, never to have a hurricane named after me again.

If it was such a waste of your time, why did you read the entire article? Nothing better to do?

I found it interesting from a psychological perspective. Most of the storms were equal in damage, but female storms more deadly. That means people were more apt to act (evacuate, take precautions, etc.) in the event of a male-named storm because they instictively view them to be more violent. It does speak to how we relate to gender and also how something as simple as a name can cause a reaction in how people respond.

But I do hope they didn’t pay a whole lot for the study. ;-)

I live in VA, right on the coast and have seen my share of hurricanes. The worst ones that I can remember have been female named storms..It seems that the Carolinas take the brunt of the storm for us here in VA. I know one thing for sure, I have witnessed the damage from a stong Catergory 2 storm, I won’t stick around for a strong 3 or above…no matter what they name it! :)

    Have a great day all!
