“A report by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce shows that as a result of the regulations the economy will take an $859 billion hit by 2030 and Americans will pay more for electricity, see slower economic growth and fewer jobs created.” And this is what Obama warned us about when he was running – that utility bills would be going up and y’all when and voted for him anyway. But on the brighter side he did say our health insurance would go down. BWHAHAHAHA!

Yes, Always. He did promise us that under his plan, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Instead of developing clean coal technology, the existing coal plants will just be shut down and replaced with Natural Gas at a tremendous expense and huge rate increases. KY, this is going to hurt the coal industry in Kentucky as well just like it is in West Virginia and other producing states. This country could not have a more incoherent energy policy than the one currently in place. With the Middle East going bonkers, we should be turning the Energy Industry loose full blast and to belay some of the onerous coal regulations written by the job killing EPA.

I’m sure the Chamber did release another bogus “report.” That’s probably why so many major corporations are either speaking directly in opposition to the Chamber or dropping their Chamber membership altogether – Intel, Apple, Prudential, Johnson & Johnson, Microsoft, Best Buy, Yahoo…I could go on.

Actually it didn’t affect me yet but probably will come October when my renewal comes up unless Obama give us all another extension and were able to keep our “subgrade” polices that don’t have the extra benefits that are totally useless to anyone who is over 45 and has gone through menopause. But laugh I do at all the empty, full of hot-air promises and false statements from a Chicago-thug president who thinks if we play nice with Iran they’ll do us a favor. O’Riely said it the best “This might work with the Brits but not with Iran.”

As for climate change I’ve posted a link that tells of a scientist who just discovered chunks of wood on top of the Swiss Alps that date back 4,000 years ago which blows this whole global warming crap out the window. It’s a very interesting read but I’m sure old Libby and her Lib friends won’t like it one bit.

And I too Agent feel very bad for the people of KY. They are really going to get hurt all the way around. Obama is destroying this country from the inside out and for now there’s nothing we can do about it. How about the 6 people including Lois Lerner who have had their computers mysteriously cash and the hard drives destroyed right around the IRS scandal. GIVE ME A BREAK. You’d have to be dumber than a doornail not to see the lies and hypocrisy of this administration. If Bush would have done an 1/8 of the crap Obama and his cronies have done they would be screaming for his resignation and impeachment.

There once was a man from KY. He was the best damned VHS tape manufacturer in all of Appalachia. Then 1995 came around and dvd and other digital formats came out. The guy died. Moral of the story, move on with the times, evolve or die. Finish school but never stop learning new technologies and methods. There’s another reason why coal is called a Fossil Fuel, its way past it’s prime.

Glacier’s have been increasing and decreasing for millions of years and they are still doing it today. That’s nature also known as the Earths Cycles. What started the last ice age the one were still going through? Gee, it wasn’t fossil flue now was it? Couldn’t of been all the gas burning vehicles out there either.

So it appears you don’t refute that the climate is rapidly changing.

I said nothing about the cause of the change, only that we are going through a rapid rate of change that is out of the ordinary for the past 400,000 years.

The two issues are not mutually exclusive. I don’t claim to know the cause or say that man is causing the change. Only that the change exists.

Why do you rabid righties always go for the throat?

And while some say there isn’t, I believe there is a difference between “Global Warming” and “Climate Change.” I do not think both terms are interchangable.

The climate is changing at a rapid pace. It is affecting all weather patterns, including warming, cooling, natural disasters, etc.

Absolutely correct Libby. As supported by overwhelming scientific evidence from many different fields. The denialist opinion isn’t at all informed by the science, but rather what they read on the right-wing blogosphere from non-scientists that have a political agenda.

Libby, the reason the term “climate change” is more recently come into currency is that scientists now fully realize that the impact of a changing climate are much more far reaching than just an increase in average global temperatures – such as significant increases in precipitation, droughts, flooding, storms of all sorts, etc.

Of course, the denialists claim that the Central Committee of Climate Hoaxers has mandated that everybody use a new term. Jeez, these people are bizarre. There’s no other word for it.

Always, the last Ice Age was caused by eccentricities in Earth’s orbit, primarily the Earth’s tilt in respect to the orbital plane. It is pretty well established that there will be another one many thousands of years in the future (I’ve seen estimates of between 10,000 and 20,000 years).

What the hell does that have to do with current climate change? Are you just making stuff up now?

This was all over the news for quite a while a few years back on all the emails discovered by the so called “scientists” who admitted falsifying data and some actually resigned. Even KY saw that and was scratching her head wondering why they would lie and falsify their data. If you believe your scientists, you have a very low IQ.

Agent, I saw the wingnuts go crazy, but they have yet to provide a solitary item from the stolen emails that remotely suggests data were falsified, nor points to any action that was unethical or improper. In fact, the scientists involved were cleared of any wrongdoing in *eleven* separate independent investigations. Nor have deniers been able to point to anything in those emails.

Perhaps you can provide a quote from the emails that substantiates your accusation? Not that I’m holding my breath. If you believe what you read in the denialist bubble, you have a very low IQ.

The mind is a terrible thing to waste. Unfortunately their information comes from one source and one source only, Faux News. Due to their primitive nature, they travel in packs and this news medium tends to be broadcasted to the masses of asses. Military bases only show Faux News, truck stops, frat houses, Mega Churches, NASCAR rallies, Klan/Tea Party Rallies (same thing). One of the tactics of psychological operations (Psy Ops) is to yell over people in a panel discussion to prevent another view point from getting across (one using science or other factual evidence). This looks and sounds so “maverick” and assertive by that “gotcha media”, but is really nothing more than a bunch of mouth breathers and booger eaters. At the end of the day, Bill Orally is still getting his salad tossed by Sheppard Smith, and cleaned up with a loofa. Karl Rove will eventually commit suicide for the life he has lived, and the Fox and Friends with their short and curlies hanging out of their skirts will eventually get fat and ugly and look like Nancy Grace.

Libby, are you beginning to see a pattern with the denialists?

        1. Make a wild a$$ assertion, usually involving accusations of improper scientific conduct.

        2. Throw out meaningless phrases, such as “the climate has always changed!”

        3. When called out to provide a solitary shred of evidence for #1, and any evidence that ties “cycles” with current climate change, proceed to #4 and/or #5

        4. Obama is corrupt and Al Gore if fat!!!!

        5. Call anybody requesting evidence names.

I think we’ve already gone through about five iterations of this just in this short discussion.

          1) So if someone has a different viewpoint with conflicting evidence, that’s a “wild @$$ accusation. It’s called a hypothesis, and we all present facts. That is what a debate is called.

          2) This phrase has meaning, like “the sun has always shined.”

          3) I have provided different pieces of evidence in past threads. I have called out your side on your facts, and you fail to respond, saying that I am denialist. No, I have a different opinion on something that is very debatable.

          4) Thanks for posting a fact.

          5) It runs on both sides, so please get off your high horse.

            >1) So if someone has a different viewpoint with conflicting >evidence, that’s a “wild @$$ accusation. It’s called a >hypothesis, and we all present facts. That is what a debate >is called.

As I defined it, a “wild a$$ accusation” is an accusation produced without any evidence whatsoever. You, Agent, and others have repeatedly accused climate scientists of fraud, data falsification, abusing small animals etc. Without offering a shred of supporting evidence. Not a name, not a place, etc. All I get is vague references to stolen emails which, contrary to the denialists’ assertion, absolutely do not support any accusation of malfeasance. Just in this thread I asked agent to produce the language from the emails that he believes supports his accusation. To date…*crickets* But that’s all I ever get from denialists.

            >2) This phrase has meaning, like “the sun has always >shined.”

The phrase is meaningless in relation to the current rapid climate change. Again, you folks draw this conclusion *again* without offering a solitary shred of valid evidence to support it. There are no known natural cycles contributing to current global warming.

            >3) I have provided different pieces of evidence in past >threads. I have called out your side on your facts, and >you fail to respond, saying that I am denialist. No, I >have a different opinion on something that is very >debatable.

I believe I have respond to the so-called evidence that you’ve posted. Hint: some guy on a blog just making unfounded assertions is not evidence of anything pertaining to climate change. No “evidence” that you’ve posted is remotely credible. If you’ve think I’ve failed to adequately respond to your “evidence,” let me know and I’ll respond again here.

            >4) Thanks for posting a fact.

It is fact that is emblematic of denialists debating styles, such as they are.

            >5) It runs on both sides, so please get off your high >horse.

I’m not on a horse, and if I were, it certainly wouldn’t be a horse that is high (on what?). I’m pointing out that name calling is rather childish and contributes nothing to discussion. That “others do it to” is not really a response.

From a preeminent science journal Scientific American…er….I mean from the liberal propaganda organ Scientific American.

“Yet despite its history and today’s unprecedented riches from science, the U.S. has begun to slip off of its science foundation. Indeed, in this election cycle, some 236 years after Jefferson penned the Declaration of Independence, several major party contenders for political office took positions that can only be described as “antiscience”: against evolution, human-induced climate change, vaccines, stem cell research, and more. A former Republican governor even warned that his own political party was in danger of becoming “the antiscience party.”

“Such positions could typically be dismissed as nothing more than election-year posturing except that they reflect an anti-intellectual conformity that is gaining strength in the U.S. at precisely the moment that most of the important opportunities for economic growth, and serious threats to the well-being of the nation, require a better grasp of scientific issues. By turning public opinion away from the antiauthoritarian principles of the nation’s founders, the new science denialism is creating an existential crisis like few the country has faced before.”

In fact, we haven’t seen so much anti-intellectualism / anti-science since the Indiana legislature attempted to fix the value of pi to 3.14.

“In North Carolina this year the state legislature considered House Bill No. 819, which prohibited using estimates of future sea-level rise made by most scientists when planning to protect low-lying areas. (Increasing sea level is a predicted consequence of global warming.) The proposed law would have permitted planning only for a politically correct rise of eight inches instead of the three to four feet that scientists predict for the area by 2100.

Virginia Republicans took similar action in June, banning the use of the term “sea-level rise” from a government-commissioned study and instead requiring use of the phrase “recurrent flooding” because “sea-level rise” is considered “a left-wing term,” according to one of the legislators.”

Becoming? They ARE the antiscience party. If politics were a Monday Night event like football, the giant Oompa Loompa John Boehner would introduce himself, “John Boehner, THE antisciene party.”

As for the agenda driving denialism, look no further. Follow the money. Sheeple (or variously, Sheepeople) herded, and completely unaware of the manipulation.

he Koch-brothers-funded Americans for Prosperity spearheaded a letter published as a full-page advertisement in Politico on June 9, 2014, attacking wind energy and claiming that 117 organizations oppose reviving wind-energy tax breaks that expired at the end of 2013. The Energy and Policy Institute examined the list of signatories and discovered that a majority of the groups have ties to the Koch brothers or other fossil-fuel interests.

The fossil-fuel industry continues to enjoy billions in taxpayer handouts that are written into the tax code and funds supposed “free-market” front groups to attack clean-energy tax breaks. We’ve tracked fossil-fuel-funded front groups mobilizing across the country to weaken the clean-energy industry, which has become a major threat to the fossil-fuel status quo.”

That’s what I’m talking about. All those old white Repubs don’t want to have the zipper contest. Neither do the Koch Bros. So, they make it a purse contest instead. The Kochs have huge purses. Not so sure about their inseam measurements, though.

The ozone prevents much harmful (to life) UV light from entering the Earth’s atmosphere. I know of no effect of greenhouse gasses on the ozone. The depletion of the ozone has been largely reversed due to banning CFCs, such as certain refrigerants, propellants, etc. Of course, you may remember when scientists warning of ozone depletion were called “alarmist” by vested interests back in the 90s. Plus a change…

On an almost humorous side note, the debates between the various sides of the climate changing / warming / sky is falling issue has invaded fiction. Yes, books that are not based on reality. I read a blog post of author Claude Nougat, “Why is Climate Fiction So Controversial?”.

    Go to this link: http://publishingperspectives.com/2014/06/why-climate-fiction-has-gone-viral/
and read the comments. Keep in mind, this is all about FICTION.

Agent, let’s review what I actually said:

“Agent, I saw the wingnuts go crazy, but they have yet to provide a solitary item from the stolen emails that remotely suggests data were falsified, nor points to any action that was unethical or improper. In fact, the scientists involved were cleared of any wrongdoing in *eleven* separate independent investigations. Nor have deniers been able to point to anything in those emails.

Perhaps you can provide a quote from the emails that substantiates your accusation? Not that I’m holding my breath.”

You have rapidly lost any credibility on this issue, and are just mindlessly repeating denialist talking points completely unencumbered by the thought process. When you make accusations but refuse over a long period of time to provide a solitary shred of evidence, you will find that people will no longer take you very seriously.
