I think it is now common knowledge that playing football may result in brain injuries. Armed with this knowledge, how many prospective football players, set to make millions in the NFL, will walk away from the sport and the money? My guess is not too many. My point… even if there wasn’t a conspiracy to “hide the risks of head injury sustained on the gridiron”, these individuals who are suing would still have played to get their big paycheck in the NFL.

    What a bunch of crybabies!

I have no way to prove it, but I suspect that many of the old time college and pro players did not suffer head injuries when they played with flimsy leather helmuts because they didn’t tackle with their head. They might have had their teeth knocked out on occasion, but few if any brain injuries. The players of today get the hard plastic helmut filled with foam etc and think they can take a hit with no problem. They find out later there is a cumulative effect.

        Agent,

They did suffer brain injuries. That’s where Conservatives come from.

What exactly are helmuts? Did they put the hides satanic dogs on their heads?

He was on the spirit squad of his high school football team, but he had to wear a “helmut” because Tammi-Lyn Ray fell on him causing conservetitis of the groin area.

Let’s see, you play a sport where you have to wear a HELMET due to the IMPACTS to your HEAD and you’re trying to say you didn’t know you could get a concussion from playing said sport. I guess football players really are dumb as dirt.

Maybe Obama should use his pen and his phone to ban the sport of football in the USA. We can replace it with safer activities like curling or badminton. Then all these guys who are getting rich off the NFL can go flip burgers or dig ditches or whatever else they are qualified to do in the real world.

How about “flag” football? Think they can fill up an NFL stadium doing that? Give them a “good job” after every pass caught.

So their $675 million award wasn’t enough? Now they have to go sue the union that helped them get that award? Geez, what a bunch of whiners. I agree with the previous comments. The hazards of playing football are pretty obvious. Perhaps the real problem here is that these guys come to the NFL with nothing, then make millions and blow it all on cars, drugs, women, lavish homes, and the like. Then one day they can’t play anymore and there’s no more bankroll coming in, so they have to find a new way to pay for all that stuff. Might as well sue. It’s the NFL’s fault that they got hurt and blew all their money, right? If they ever had to hack it in the real world, they’d have been lucky to flip burgers.

To add insult to injury, the NFL will just get more taxpayer handouts from the Republican crooks, like they always do. $675M will be no problem.

The league has only paid since the congressional testimony. At that hearing, Dr. Robert Cantu stated, blows to the chin and facemask contributed to the concussion issue, yet players have been allows to participate without mouth guards or neuromuscular appliances particularly effective in those with Tmd or prior jaw injury. New data supports the use if these to help with neck strength.

Orthodontic care should not stop once the braces come off. Form fitted orthodontic mouth guards have been proven to enhance neuromuscular deficiencies as a result of the procedure. New data supports these adaptive guards. Any kid who is post orthodontic should at the very least be screened for Temporal Mandibular Joint disorder or more commonly known as the “Boxers Glass Jaw”.

Please don’t discount the injuries suffered by the old timers, before football paid out millions in annual salaries. Also, don’t discount the fact that many players really don’t make (and didn’t make) millions.

I think the fund agreed to by the union and N F L IS too low, the profits in the billions and the number of players injured considered…We are all in insurance…think of some of the legitimate settlements we all have seen for permanent disability and closed head injuries…theNFL settlement was woefully inadequate.
