Simply put, the answer is “no!” There are far more important things about which to be concerned. This week GM announced its almost driverless automobile – basically hands off unless there is warning of impending danger. Isn’t that fantastic? Just think, now there will be more time for the driver (Oops, I mean operator) to text. Don’t we all need driverless cars so that we can text to advantage and reap the benefits of an increased number of accidents simply because the “car will take care of the driving?”
I should think the auto insurers would be not a little concerned, while the body shops rub their hands with delight. Mike
I am inclined to say “yes” schools should monitor… that’s if the school district provides the tablet or computer.
There are two reasons why: 1) if the school is providing the device, then they are responsible for the safe and responsible use of the device. In order to maintain safety for the entire network, it is reasonable for any network administrator to monitors its user’s use in some way, shape or form. 2) It prepares the students for the professional world. As insurance agents, most of us have a work provided smart phone, and we all have a computer. Guess what, your boss can monitor everything. The kids need to learn that online activities are almost always monitored.
I agree with Producer #1. I also do not believe these kids should be able to remove these computers or tablets from the schools. When kids used “paper and pencil” it was usually a note written in school. Taxpayers are footing the bill for these items, the kids should NOT be able to use as they choose. BLOCK the access to specific sites, it is not that hard to do. Their parents need to teach them to ignore the idiots, and pursue their own goals. They will be much stronger personalities as well as more successful adults!
i agree with you strongly as i am still in school but some time teachers will send notes out in emails or a reminder or have kids work on researching
things as that is what i am doing now and i would like to know if you can give me more input on what you think about this topic
i have to say that if a kid post a picture on the internet they should not get in trouble but if they are bulling and threatening other kids and saying they will kill them self’s then yes something should be done but not if its just a post or a picture then they don’t have their freedom of speech now if it was the kids mom or dad that said something to the kid well that is fine but not the school but that’s just what i think every one can think what they want
i feel schools should mointer social media on when nessaccary or when they are suspious but other then that its the students private business unless cyber bullying or suicide attempts or things like that show
What we do on social media is not a schools’ business. Even if we do post something racist, sexist, or just straight up offensive, it’s the parents problem and the school shouldn’t be required to punish us.
btw im spiderman so trust me i have proof add me on the snap
What we post on social media is the parents problem and has nothing to do with the school. It’s breaking the rule of the first amendment. Whether what we post is good or bad, the school should have nothing to do with it. If a student(s) have made a threat to another student, then the school should maybe be involved and the parent(s) have the right to call the police. But if it’s only a rude comment and/or an opinion, the school shouldn’t be involved.

MikeMansel, your comment is about driverless cars? But that is not what the article is about.
