Since this app is cloud based and on the cell phone, would it not be subject to the same vulnerabilities as the dating app in the previous articles. So, the insurance industry uses this app and the customers all have their data hacked. Whatever we may save on insurance costs we will surely lose in one data breach. Does the cost outweigh the benefit?

Thanks Crain, you raise a valid point. That said, UBI apps don’t expose drivers to hacking any more than most social and online banking apps already do today. The only sure way to avoid smartphone app hacking is not to use smartphones at all. The only sure way to avoid online account hacking is not to use the Internet. In my opinion, we can’t let paranoia interfere with innovation. Instead, let’s focus on finding technological advancements to minimize hacking risks.
