The stupid low information people signed up for SNAP, knew that big brother Progressive was monitoring their driving and still engaged in risky driving. How is that working out now? You mean I don’t still get that discount with the device in the car? So what if I get tickets, accidents, get caught texting while driving.

Maybe they are just using this strategy to get rid of problematic drivers.

Wait…I only agreed to this tracking when you were going to offer me a discount. I do not agree to additional premiums based on my bad driving. That would be like insisting on charging based on my age, years driving experience, my driving record, my credit history and other verifiable and valid uses of underwriting. What has the world come to? I am calling the CA DOI; the madness must stop!

Our Flogressive rep was here yesterday asking us to push Snapshot. As soon as this comes to my state I will NEVER SUGGEST SNAPSHOT AGAIN.

I think this is just too invasive. City drivers often cannot help but brake harder with all the idiots jay walking, etc. And what is the deal about having to be off the road between midnight and 4:00 a.m.?! There are less vehicles on the roads – and just because you are out those hours does not mean you are a bad driver!!

There is an old saying that nothing good ever happens after midnight.

      1) The braking ends up being a measure of not just how you drive, but where you drive. Braking doesn’t make one a bad driver, but it does show an exposure to a possible accident. The more possible accidents you encounter, the actual accidents you’ll end up in.
      2) When do the bars close? When are people sleepy?

Agents often wondered about using snapshot for rating and Progressive would say “No way” looks like they changed their tune. Rating based on driving is a reality now and Progressive has gone back on their word

1 – Surcharges are not a new idea for Progressive. Before they rebranded MyRate into Snapshot there were 4 pilot programs going head to head in a multivariate test. Two of the four pilots charged surcharges (up to 9%).

2- The key takeaway here is that Snapshot is a powerful segmentation (rating) tool not an automatic discount (like bundling). There are those people who will do very well and those who will not. The vast majority WILL do well in this “updated” version – 80%. Currently, I am enjoying a 23% discount.

3- Progressive knows this program will not appeal to everyone. That is why it’s an opt-in (optional) program. The quote has always been designed for someone with data concerns to recognize it early and move on quickly.

4- @Alan – No need to call the CA DOI – Snapshot is not in California.

May I ask why you are a former Progressive Employee? It sounds like you are pretty proud of their program.

Since we have one driver really in our household and two full coverage vehicles , three licensed drivers but one is disabled and one is an away student…….we figure the snapshot better give us a discount. The one vehicle hasn’t seen 1000 miles since January and the newer one is driven three days a week and we are very responsible drivers, living in Mayberry , USA.
