Hospitals already have “death panels”. Try getting a transplant. You have to be “approved” by the hospital “panel” which is in turn a death panel if they don’t approve you. I know my wife had a liver transplant (not from drinking) and had to be “approved” by both the insurance company and hospital…Long beore obamacare.

          No. It was not.

Almost all hospitals bill after service. I have never had a company say they would not provide service, or even check my insurance.

I’ve had children head injuries, I’ve had catscans for the children head injury, I had a father who had a heart attack, they didn’t even know his information until after they did most the work, etc.

Hospitals provide service to the uninsured.

So the government deciding what is and isn’t covered would be new, and NO it is not better than on a local level based on need.

The government should have NO say in who lives and dies. NONE.

So your implication that it would be ok because it happened now (which it doesn’t but I’ll pretend it does) is not justification to give power over to the government (hypothetically)

I won’t even address that comment. It shows a lot more about you than it does me that you just made it.

The moment someone intervenes in an abortion, they are making the choice in who lives and dies in a completely different way.

In the government’s case, it is forcing inaction in what would otherwise lead to death. Ergo making decisions they should not.

In the case of abortion, the person is forcing death in what would otherwise end with life. Ergo, making decisions they should not.

You find yourself clever, but you are not. And my prior two comments show that I blend philosophy with religion, and it is consistent.

Is Rosenblatt out of his mind because he proved your hypocrisy? Just tip your hat to him for pointing out that you, in FACT, favor the government having some say in who lives and dies, and move on.

Simple question, when someone is in a position to make a conscious decision to have an abortion, who should have the final say, the person or the government? For the sake of this debate, there is no 3rd option.

            bob,

In both of your posts on this matter, you say the government should have no say as to who lives or dies.

Do you truly believe “In the government’s case, it is forcing inaction in what would otherwise lead to death. Ergo making decisions they should not”? Do you truly believe “The government should have NO say in who lives and dies. NONE.”?

Or did you intentionally exaggerate your beliefs in those statements just to make a point?

Simple question: should the government make any laws relating to abortions (pro-life or pro-choice) or not?

To clear up any ulterior motive you think I may have, or how you may think I’m asking a loaded question, here’s what I would write in my next post dependent on your answer:

If you agree the government should enact no laws for or against abortions, I concede I misunderstood your point.

If you feel the government SHOULD enact laws limiting (or expanding) abortion rights, please elaborate on how said laws are not in direct conflict with your posts about how government should have NO say in who lives and dies.

I look forward to your insult-less reply to help me understand the point you’re trying to make and to what extent you believe the government’s role should or should not be relative to abortion laws.

It is another big government program that will be a further erosion of individual rights and by 2016, the true increased cost to those of us that pay taxes and pay for our own medical insurance, will be apparent. Ron; objections to ‘death panels’ is aimed at the notion that politicians know better than medical insurance claim staff, underwriters, or actuaries, how to control costs. Republicans oppose ‘death panels’ because those panels substitute political aspirations for professional qualifications to do the job properly.

They were actually afraid of big government and sought to limit the powers of government, hence the system of checks and balances. Obama wants to be the Dictator in Chief and tell us all what to do in every phase of our lives. Good thing he is a short timer.

Fraudulent in Catholic beliefs…Just as fraudulent as you claimed to support republicans.

Let me give you some advice, boy:

TAKE CARE of your personal issues and mental issues that come from being Catholic, and the social stigmas that come with certain things.

It is clear you don’t support the less popular Catholic ideals, just like you don’t support even your father when he doesn’t support the popular ideals.

This is a sign of weakness and being a people pleaser.

Stand fast in your Catholic beliefs. Stand fast in your conservative beliefs. Do not compromise based on wanting to be a moderate.

just because I do not force my beliefs on others and expect them to follow me like a sheep, does not define my own personal beliefs. I am personally anti-abortion. However, as an American, I believe people should be able to make their own decisions about their bodies based on their own beliefs. As I have mentioned before, the biggest hurdle in the abortion debate is arriving at an agreed definition of when a fertilized egg becomes a human being. This should be based on science, not religious beliefs. We are not a theocracy.

I love how Conservatives are for the Constitution, then want to throw out a part of it in order to push their agenda on the rest of the country. We are not a theocracy.

I love how Conservatives hate Islamic extremists who push for strict adherance to Sharia Law, yet are doing the exact same thing here in America. We are not a Theocracy.

            Agent,

If you are so against an oppressive governemt, why do you advocate for more laws, higher taxes, and continue to support laws that provide little to no protection and have only created more crime, criminals, expenses and taxes?

This country has not been going down the tubes for most of the people. Name 1 law that President Obama has made that was passed. Hint: The PPACA does not count because, 1. he wanted at least a public option and 2. Presidents do not make laws.

Until you can convince your Republican friends to impeach him, stop asking me. There is a reason he has not been impeached and it is not because of their fear of being labeled racists or that he would not be removed from office due to the make up of the Senate. Those things did not stop them from obstructing nearly everything he has tried to do nor pass bills that had zero chance of becoming laws. It is because there is no justifiable reason for him to be impeached.

I pray that the Republicans can put forth a candidate that has a chance of winning in 2016. However, there is no indication that will be the case.

So Ron, let me get this straight. You are for people doing harmful things like smoking Marijuana, doing drugs, texting while driving and other harmful activities without government intervention. That shows that your complete stupidity. Anarchy is not far behind just letting people do whatever they want whenever they want. Put that in your Algorithm pipe and smoke that.

FFA, the law is so flawed and so expensive, it needs to just go away and be replaced. A law passed with no bi-partisan support was easy to see that it was bad law. We were lied to repeatedly by the President, Gruber, Pelosi, Reid saying we would like it once we saw what was in it. We were told an average family would save $2,500 per year on premiums. All lies and they told them over and over.

Did you guys know that on a subsidized plan that the $60 copay to see a specialist isn’t covered until the deductible is met? I have a nice with a hear condition, she and her parents live in MI. They just received a $300 bill because my niece had to see her cardiologist which she’ll probably have to see at lest 4 times a year. The $1200 that is going to have to be paid out-of-pocket will not even put a dent into the deductible. Nice going liberals.

How about this scenario: a straight couple go into a gay bakery and ask them to bake a cake for a traditional man & woman? They would be told “sorry, but we’re a gay bakery” and refuse to bake it. I’m so tired of gay people screaming discrimination when they are just as guilty of it. Christian bakeries have lost their businesses because of this nonsense. There are plenty of gay bakeries around these days so why is there the intention of the gay community to shove their life-style down everyone’ throat? I, personally don’t care is someone is gay, straight, bi, what have you these days. If a gay bakery doesn’t want to make a cake that doesn’t share their values then a Christian bakery should have the same right as they do. However! There is discrimination on both sides. And just so you know the KKK was stared by democrats. It was Abraham Lincoln who passed the emancipation proclamation and freed the slaves and he was a REPUBICAN and it cost him his life.

One of my gay friends kept talking to me about Gay stuff – not hitting on me but pushing that life style on me. I finally had to tell him to shut up about it. He then asked me if I was a homophobe. I said no. I am your friend from grade school. I don’t talk about my sex life, I don’t want to hear about yours. Hi FAA,

I think a straight rally would be a wonderful thing but then we’d all get called bigots and racists.

I had many a gay friend in the past try to tell me that I had gay tendencies and tried to get me to switch sides – just because I have a lot of women as friends doesn’t make me gay so I know exactly where your coming from. And besides – aren’t gay people “born” that way? LOL.

Rham – God help us. Like most politicians, he’ll say anything to get a vote. Whether it be fact or fiction. Look at what that old geezer Reid did? He lied about Romney not paying his taxes – and now he just blows it off “He didn’t win did he?” What piece of work! I think he should get another butt kicking for that lie. Hey, maybe actually did. Hurt himself while exercising. Right – just another lie from the left. “I thought it would be more simpler to have two phones – I was wrong.” “If you like your insurance plan you can keep your insurance plan.” “I did not have sexual relations with that woman.” I’m not a big fan of Chuy either and I’m still sitting on the fence on who to vote for. They both stink in my opinion.

I would LOVE to see them protest and try to sue these establishments the way do Christian bakeries when they don’t get their way. In MY opinion they are scared to death of what the reaction would be. Muslims in the Middle East have beheaded people for being homosexual. So why not protest in front of their business? It’s because they don’t have, excuse the language, the balls to do it. That’ why!

You guys are off base. This isnt about action at all.

Everyone knows that the real intent of this law is in terms of the overall message, not the effect. From what I can tell, there has never been a case in Indiana of a business owner being forced to violate their religious beliefs.

Thus, this law doesn’t actually make any change since businesses aren’t doing this right now (look at the backlash. You think a business that wants to make money is going to risk being seen as homophobic? No chance).

Rather this is about much more than homosexuality, its about one group of people who are so upset with the way that the world is going that they pick another, smaller subset of people to legislate against in order to send a message. This is a law about christian conservatives thumbing their nose at liberals, with “religious freedom” being a proxy for homosexuals, i.e. cultural democrats.

This is simply conservatives pouting about the country moving in a progressive direction, so they pick gays as the hill upon which they choose to make their fight. In my opinion, they picked poorly. Just look at the reaction across the nation.

The bigger and far more interesting outcome is how this will affect the republican party in the future. Basically, I view republicans as two real groups of people: wealthy who are for low taxes on the rich, and cultural conservatives. Now that the latter is an embarrassment and liability to the former, what direction will the Republicans take? Based on the business elite’s reaction, I think that the answer is now clear.

And therein lies the real debate that we will see in the coming future. The old, cultural republican brand that existed for the last 50 years is dying. Millennials are abandoning the church at astonishing rates, and when you factor in their inability to afford families and housing, their voting tendencies will shift heavily left. Simply put, young people just do not care about cultural issues. Why would they? They cant afford to start families, so theres nothing for them to conserve.

You simply cannot eviscerate the ability of an entire generation to earn a living and expect them not to want housing, healthcare, and education. When Indiana passes these kinds of laws, all they really do is speed up the Republican evolution.

Perhaps you should join another party who’s policies actually strengthen causes you care about: family formation and economic prosperity for all.

Stan, I see it the same way as well. When Bill Clinton moved the Democratic party to the center, the GOP response was to move farther to the right. And then again even farther to the right. And again and again. The GOP candidates? They have an internal competition to see who can be the most righteous far right. Which is the dead wrong position to be in for a general election. Good for Democrats though.

The GOP is even in danger of losing Walmart. That is how far, far, far right they have moved. Think the right wing GOP dictates how day to day America is run? No, it is business who sets the tone. After all, business is business — and the business of America is business.

It is the most unfriendly state to any business of any size, of any kind. Every border town business should close their doors in IL and move to the other side of the street. Sorry to say, but fire any one that lives in IL and hire in the neighboring state.
