Some have said everything would be so wonderful with autonomous vehicles. There are about 30 reasons in this article that point to myriad problems. What if a hacker gets hold of just one vehicle and a huge pile up is the result. Who is held responsible for the accident, the owner or the manufacturer? It won’t be the hacker, for sure.

Good points, Agent. I would say that traffic is already impacted today by these issues. How often are you second in line at a red light, the light turns green and the car in front of you doesn’t move. You look at them and see they are doing something on their phone, fiddling with the navigation, etc. You toot your horn and they flip you off. (So add road-rage issues to the list.) The end result is that 2-3 cars are delayed getting through a light, which further backs up traffic. That’s my rant for today.

Good rant CL. Every day, I try to pull out of the agency parking lot and traffic is backed up. I counted 25 out of 50 cars where the driver was on their cell either talking or texting. They had no clue what was going on around them.

Hey CL. I saw a clip this morning showing the wonderful autonomous car that is supposed to brake automatically if someone or something is in front of it. A trusting guy was standing there and the car barreled right into him. Oops! I guess we had a faulty sensor. If a person had been behind the wheel, they may have stopped in time.

The sensors and technology will only continue to improve over time. People on the other hand, will continue to play with their phones, eat, drink, apply makeup, etc while driving.

Truck and cab drivers need to start job retraining now; their jobs just won’t be there in 15-20 years.

The author fails to account for the advances in technology that will enable all this extra bandwidth. Also, won’t autonomous vehicles and ridesharing/carsharing lead to fewer cars on the road/?
