This is more than a bit stupid. Why would an insurer offer this until some credible security is developed for the Internet of Things. Two of my longtime friends went to smart security and experienced terrible results. One took off on a 2 week vacation and when he arrived home his home was ransacked with his high tech electronics stolen – the thieves hacked his alarm system and his door security. Another one’s car was stolen from his garage overnight when thieves hacked his alarm system, garage entry security and the car’s ignition system. Travelers is insane for doing this at this time……but then this is typical of them.

Sounds to me like your friends should be suing the Alarm Company if it was that easy to hack.
I have seen the discount offered and it is not that much. Perhaps just a bit more than having a Central Station alarm system.
Central monitoring system reported by phone had is flaws.
Land based phone reporting security systems; The outside phone line can be cut.
VOIP based phone reporting systems: The VOIP router can be hacked.
When someone breaks into a garage to steal a car. Had the garage code, Car key code, etc.. It sounds like pros or and inside job.
