I wouldn’t be surprised if you go down the list of 100’s of dead wrestlers who died way before their time from drugs or suicide or other ‘demons’ as they are referred to in the wrestling industry (yes, it is so common that the wrestlers refer to these issues as ‘demons’ without a second thought) a staggering number were suffering from CTE… up to and including the most famous CTE case of all, Chris Benoit.

So I agree the outcome of the matches are fake (e.g. who wins and how) and a lot of the times the blood is fake too, but the physicality of the sport and the brain injuries are very real.

Need an example of realness in wrestling? 1998 Hell In A Cell.

Watch Mankind drop 16 feet from the top of the cage then look at his face afterwards. I doubt you would try to argue his own tooth sticking out of his own gums is fake or that he could’ve planned that outcome either.

Gee Rosenblatt, you are the last one I would suspect to watch pro wrestling. I stopped at age 9 when I realized it was all fake. These guys all practice their fake moves and how to fall. They are also hopped up on steroids and are like wild men.

Agent – while I haven’t watched wresting in decades, I agree they practice their moves and learn how to fall.

Now can you please reply to what I said? Even though we agree it’s fake, the physicality of the sport means the threat of serious (unscripted) injuries is quite real.

Prime example: 1998 Hell in a Cell. I know you can google just fine, but you won’t click my links so here’s a paragraph from Wikipedia:

“cameras showed a lingering shot of Foley smiling through his profusely bleeding mouth and lips, with a loose tooth hanging beneath his nose; the tooth having been knocked out due to being struck by the chair which had fallen through the cage and landed on his face, dislocating his jaw”

So we can say wrestling is fake (and I did) but the threat of serious injuries to the wrestlers bodies and brains are very real.

Simply put, fake wrestling can still cause serious and debilitating injuries. Do you agree with me on that?

Sure they can get hurt. They get thrown out of the ring onto concrete, some get hit over the head with metal chairs. That is not the fault of WWE, by the way. They are all wild men who are in a violent sport even if it is mostly fake. They are all juiced up also.

There is a reason WWE has banned chair shots to the head. And when one wrestler drops another wrestler right on his head he gets a concussion- many wrestlers finish matches ‘blacked out’ from an accidental injury (head shot) all of these concussions mount up.

You are misinformed and misguided if you think they do not suffer form CTE

You don’t see piledrivers anymore in the WWE (except for Undertaker & Kane – grandfathered in) because the WWE banned them as folks didn’t do it right and caused serious neck injuries to their opponents. Stone Cold Steve Austin was temporarily paralyzed because of that move back in 1997, if i remember correctly.

Perhaps that is why Steve Austin became an actor. I like Steve. Sometimes he is a bad guy enforcer and sometimes he is a good guy. In any case, he is not the kind of guy you want to mess with.

Never understood how they could go and NOT get hurt, but the explanation was that since it was scripted and rehearsed it was safer than it appeared-kind of like stunt people doing what appeared to be very dangerous things but walking away unharmed. The other was that many rasslers-like the Funk Bros, Black Jack Lanza or Pat O’Connor worked well into their 60’s-this was supposed to be a testament to how safe the show was.
Not sure that was anything but a story as history is now revealing. How sad!

of COURSE wrestling’s fake, but it doesn’t take away from the fun. I haven’t watched it in years, since the mid-late 90’s, but those guys are honestly in some of the best shape of any other athletes out there (and they ARE athletes). Check out “Sheik” on Netflix about the Iron Sheik, or even better, “The Resurrection of Jake the Snake.”

Jesse Ventura is what you get when you elect an entertainer into higher office, unfortunately. He was not a member of The Establishment, really didn’t have any other political experience, and believed in all sorts of conspiracy theories.

Yes, many professional wrestlers use or have used steroids or other hard drugs. And yes, it’s their choice and not necessarily the fault of the WWE. However, there’s a reason why professional wrestling has endured over the past 50+ years: it’s entertaining. They weave intricate and far-fetched storylines into well developed characters, and it’s a fun way to take a break from reality for a few hours (as all sports are).

On the other side of the coin, there’s the GOOD that a lot of wrestlers do. How many of them have traveled overseas to entertain the troops? How many of them have visited sick kids? Take a look at John Cena: He has personally granted more wishes for Make A Wish than ANYBODY; hundreds more than the next celebrity on the list. He brings kids up on stage during the show and encourages them to FIGHT the cancer that is robbing them of their childhood. Seriously, Agent…you need to google it. Regardless of your personal thoughts about wrestling, this will touch your heart.

My personal favorite wrestlers: Mankind (Mick Foley). Guy was CRAZY back in the day. The Rock. Honestly no better character, in my book. YouTube the “Rock and Sock Connection” to see when he and Mankind were tagteam partners. It’s hilarious.

Hey Louie, Ronald Reagan was an entertainer/actor and he ended up being the greatest President this country has produced in the past 100 years. On the other hand, the Community Organizer politician has been the worst. Jesse Ventura was such a nice guy that he sued the widow of Chris Kyle for millions.

Sure, there are some decent guys in pro wrestling and I am sure they entertain the low information types out there with their fake sport and some actually do some good. Do you go back far enough to remember Gorgeous George, one of the villians who had golden locks, threw golden bobby pins out in the audience and then proceeded to do every dirty thing he could think of to his opponents? All a big act, but he drew in some crowds.

kyle claimed that jesse advocated for the death of navy seals. the whole story (including that he knocked out ventura after jesse made that comment) was completely made up though.

kyle deserved to get sued for defamation. we can argue the jury’s award as being excessive, but don’t blame jesse for suing kyle because kyle made up a story painting jesse as heartless towards navy seals and saying some of them should die. what kyle published in a book is the textbook definition of defamation of character.

Way to go fake Confused, the Bot who tries to silence opinion on any subject by downvoting. By the way, idiot Ventura had his case thrown out. You don’t sue a widow of a murdered hero because of what the husband may or may not have done. Now, downvote this 25 times at least.

“You don’t sue a widow of a murdered hero because of what the husband may or may not have done”

right – you sue the estate, which is what jesse did. the widow just happened to be the executor of the estate.

“Huddleston explained that “at present, the insurance company’s position is that it would only cover $500,000 of the judgement if the judgement becomes final. That leaves the Estate at risk for the remaining $1.3 million if the judgement become final.”

also, i don’t think you know what “thrown out” means in a court of law. the case was heard, a jury rendered a decision with an award, and the case was appealed. it never would’ve been put in front of a jury if it was “thrown out.”

finally – the estate doesn’t have $1.8M yet kyle’s take home profits from the book alone was over $3M? sounds fishy, like all your comments before they are fact checked online and prove that you know not of what you speak, as usual.

I have long held the belief that the trouble with professional wrestling is the poor quality of the referees. They are stupid and incompetent. Improve the quality and all will be better.

I have met several professional wrestlers over the years and they are all “special”. They know the risks and do it willingly. Mistakes do happen and injuries are real. However, the last ten years or so have seen a dramatic increase in serious injuries because of the need to “step it up” to make the crown get into it. More risks are taken. The days of wrestling into ones senior years are gone. The shelf life of these new guys is limited. Some will make it but many others will end up broken to pieces.

Watch the movie “The Wrestler”. It is an accurate depiction of the life. Also catch the “The resurrection of Jake the Snake”. It is a story of redemption.

First off Wrestling is NOT Fake, it’s scripted and the outcome of a match is predetermined. I would like to see any of you know it all’s get in the squared circle and last 5 minutes with Road Warrior Animal, he would have you crying like a baby in the first minute. Yes pro-wrestlers know how to fall, they practise their art almost everyday but accidents happen and they happen a lot.

Many years ago, Alex Karras engaged in a feud with Dick the Bruiser, who was the quintessential bad guy back in the 70’s. Karras challenged him to a match and Dick accepted.

Dick went in a “wrestled” Karras and beat the living daylights out of him. Photos of Karras after the match clearly show what Dick did to him. All he did was use legitimate wrestling moves on him.

Back then, Kayfabe was in place and the wrestlers went out of their way to maintain it was real and they would step up from time to time to prove it. Don’t let anyone think, these guys cannot execute, they can.
