I didn’t realize that these names were open to use. I just rejected our bowling team name, The Slanted Redskins, because I thought it was trademarked.

(Yes, Captain, I am being sarcastic)

What about ‘Big Black Balls’, I wonder if that was taken ? A heavy handed federal government is not good for our country and if Obama’s minions on the Supreme Court decide to start picking and choosing what can and cannot be protected by trademark, then we are going to be in a mess. Primarily because someone is ‘offended’ every day by something. ‘Redskins’; offensive. ‘Seahawks’; offensive. ‘Bengals, Cowboys, Packers, Steelers, Jaguars, Saints, Jets’; all very offensive. Ban them all and just give these teams numbers. 1 – 32…….but no one wants to be #32 so that’s offensive too. Letters – no way ! What if used a symbol of some sort……like an emoji to represent the teams…..? Very offensive, not a chance.
Maybe a series of grunts and other guttural sounds ? I think everything should be deemed offensive and nothing banned.

I’ve only heard of Redskins being offensive, none of the other team names you listed. Were you just exaggerating?

    STOP RACISM
    Racism question for the NFL….
    DICTIONARY.COM
REDSKIN – [Red-skin] Noun, A disparaging and offensive contemptuous term used to
refer to a North American Indian.
N-WORD – [nig-er] Noun, A disparaging and offensive contemptuous term used to refer
    to a black person.
How can one be offensive and not the other? Racism is something that apply to all
people, not just black people. You cannot say the N-word on the radio, tv, or even
in the newspapers or internet. Yet, the FCC allow the offensive word against Native
Americans to be broadcast freely all over the media. Can you tell me why this is so,
we as Americans, must fight against all forms of Racism in this country.
It is time to Change The Name, stop supporting Racism.
Please pass this on through your facebook, twitter and all social media.

Greg: you’re all caught up in the liberal P/C hissy fit. Everything is racist. Your ‘n-word’ (nigger or nigga depending on who uses it) is the foundation of nearly every rap song ever recorded. So who is this word offensive to ?
If we embrace your suggestion, every descriptive adjective used for people (and…..animals ?) will have to be done away with, including compliments because you never know when ‘You look great today’ will be deemed racist and a terrible insult. Stop being a liberal tool.

Jax, Are the Atlanta Braves or Cleveland Indians disparaging to Native Americans? If you have noticed their uniforms, the Indian face is very red indeed.

Liberals love being offended. They look for ways to be offended and if you don’t offend them directly, they are more than happy to be offended by proxy.

Well, I can’t speak for an entire class of people. But, as a registered Independent, if you were to ask anyone who knows me, they’d tell you it’s darn near impossible to offend me. Though, when I speak about others, I do try and recognize they may not have the same mentality as me. So, yes, I do mind my manners and watch what I say. It’s called The Golden Rule.

I thought the ‘Golden Rule’ was; whoever has the gold, makes the rules. :-)

I feel offended by people who feel offended, I believe they are engaging in micro-aggressions (ha!) I think Jax Agent hit the nail on the head.
BTW, Greg, referring to a skin color is not inherently racist. If it were so, would not calling a black man a black man, or a white man a white man, be racist? I don’t think so, but maybe you do? And having a team named after you is considered an honor. Team players want to be proud of each other, proud of their team, and proud of their team’s name. Would anyone want to play for the Chickensh*t Cowards? I believe depriving Native Americans of their rightful place of honor by having teams named after them is racist. Wake up and smell your own oppressive coffee.

I always get a kick out of people telling other people whether or not they should be offended, degraded or insulted.

I also find it very ironic that the ones who believe we are too PC, also complain about how divisive our country has become. You do not bring about unity by insulting others based on race, religion, gender, class, political ideology, etc.

While I think there are instances of PC gone awry, we need to be more respectful, not less.
