It should be obvious, but unless the primary cost drivers aren’t addressed, then medical “Insurance Rates” will not be controlled or reduced to the benefit of consumers. Primary drivers are prescription drug costs and the mountain of paper work providers need to report to the faderal government and the army of government employees.

Florida, Trump is already after the drug companies on costs and the approval time for new drugs will be reduced just like Canada did. The bureaucracy is responsible for problems in that area. Mandates that have driven up the cost should be eliminated and coverage optional on applications. Also, Pools should be used for the chronically sick who file the majority of claims so they don’t ruin the rates of the healthy. The government can always subsidize the Pools some and it will be much more cost friendly than the nightmare we have now.

Please do us all a favor, and before you post erroneous information, take 40 seconds to fact check yourself. That being said, the ACA isn’t necessarily responsible for the slow down. It is simply false to say that mandates are causing cost increase, though. What about from say 1999 to 2004, what was causing the sky rocketing costs back then? Don’t act like rising health care premiums is a President Obama phenomenon.

          @Capt Platitude:

That article completely ignores the impact on PREMIUMS, not COSTS, of DEDUCTIBLE INCREASES forced upon policyholders.

You continue to make STRAW MAN ARGUMENTs instead of substantive comments.

When people talk about DRUG COSTS and COSTS OF COMPLIANCE with paperwork, they are NOT talking about PREMIUMS after DEDUCTIBLES are raised greater than inflation on claim costs.

Do yourself a favor and read your own link:

“In November, Obama said the slow growth in health care spending “has the effect of making premiums for families lower that they otherwise would have been,” and implied the ACA was responsible. (The average premium growth for 2013 and 2014 has been under 4 percent.) But as we pointed out then, experts say the lower rates of growth are mainly due to the sluggish economy. A 2013 analysis by KFF said that “much of the decline in health spending growth in recent years was fully expected given what was happening more broadly in the economy.” And CMS’ experts said in 2014 that the ACA had had a “minimal impact.”

You and UW both claim that everyone else does this but you, but I think the last week I have made it more than clear the two of you aren’t paying attention. The slow down in premium increases is clearly due to economic conditions, also, the CBO clearly commented on this matter that the costs would be 9% higher than the absence of the plan, and that the republican plan would be about 10% cheaper than not having a plan, it’s basically a 20% difference.

Also, what Agent said about deductibles holds true as well, even by your own link they mention it.

This is sheer ignorance. Pay attention Planet.

Unless someone is in the business of “paper-work” I don’t see what’s to disagree with what you said. High drug costs can be addressed several ways, but the bureaucratic processing of paperwork is pure expense incurred regardless of any medical benefit delivered. If even 1% of the non-benefit portion of any budget were dedicated to an independent Cost/Benefit Analysis of a program’s processes, I believe we would see a very significant return on that investment. This is the kind of business sense I am expecting to see.

I don’t disagree that prescriptions drugs and paperwork are driving costs. But I can’t help but think about the amount of money spent on senior care. Seniors live longer and we have treatments for ailments that would have never been covered in previous years. We replace knees on 85 yr olds. We fix eyelids. We offer little blue pills. All paid for by Medicare. And more is coming as medicine finds cures. Why is there any thought that we can slow the rise in medical costs. We can’t. And that’s okay if we want to improve quality of life and extend longevity. Let’s face it, preventive care is not the answer. It’s cheaper to let someone die of a heart attack at 55 than it is to replace their knees and treat their skin cancer at 80. As a side note I still don’t understand why prescription drugs, for uncommon ailments, are so heavily advertised (watch the nightly news)on TV. This seems like a waste of money.

@SWFL Agent; sure it’s expensive to provide health care that isn’t always necessary to the elderly. But if they want to pay for it, insurers should offer that type of coverage, at actuarial adequate rates, as endorsements to a basic policy that only covers ESSENTIAL health care procedures and treatments.

Some key expense items are going to be addressed in the REPLACEMENT to ACA. My suspicion is that the costs are going to addressed as an ONGOING task assigned to …. someone. Maybe an insurance exec will be assigned the task as a special consultant, or a committee will be formed to set up a team to follow costs and try to reduce them over time? It certainly isn’t something that is going to be fixed soon and remain fixed for a long time.

All good points DPB, but who decides what’s “essential”. Some would argue that if there is a medical remedy to a problem, then it should be covered. Right now the family stands by Grandma’s bedside and tells the doctor – “do everything you can doc”. After all Medicare is paying for it. The treatment may be a little different if the doctor’s response was – “Yes, we can do it all. Can I have each of your credit card #’s so you can pay for this”.

The free market decides, with ‘input’ from its customers.

The essential coverages would emerge over time, as customers buy their policies or policies of other insurers with alternate sets of coverage.

Also, the medical community can provide input as to ‘essential procedures and treatment and preventative measures’.

Freedom of choice is but one thing taken from The People by ACA. It will be restored with the ACA Repeal & Replace Plan/ Scheme (ACA R&R) that is about to occur.

But, as in all good things, it will take time to resolve itself, as customers demand more things or less things that suffice for their needs. And ‘essential’ policy coverage differences among or within different insurers is a GOOD thing. Endorsements of supplemental coverages will evolve over time, hopefully quickly.

seven years of Repeal and replace yet no replace program. Mandate is the only way to make it work. Romney, Heritage Foundation, Nixon all had mandate. otherwise adverse selection and emergency room for the uninsured are put on your bill. Then your Ins Co.rates go up. OR single payer .

We have heard this before, however, the mandate only breaks the ACA because the ACA is crap.

Your concept above is exactly that: A simple concept. People better than you have analyzed this, say the CBO, and they have already spoken on it. It will be cheaper than the ACA and it won’t break the market or rise premiums which would be an affect of what you’re talking about.

Clearly the CBO doesn’t share your opinion.

Whiny liberals criticized Republicans’ plan to repeal ACA kept repeating a Straw Man argument, saying there was NO REPLACEMENT, only a repeal. Well, now they’ve been proven to be liars because the above scheme was well underway over a year ago, and several variations were brought up in Congress, but were promptly shut down by Dems.

Look for explanations of each of the outline items in a few weeks, probably after January 1, 2017.

You never responded to my post from a previous article:

What you are suggesting [policies should have common wording OR be acceptable in EACH jurisdiction. This isn’t the insurmountable task you seem to think it is because 50 NAIC Commissioners are going to be asked to cooperate in developing model bills and model policy wording that is acceptable to all or nearly all 50 jurisdictions plus DC.] already exists. What exactly would be different? Who would force each jurisdiction to agree to the policy language if they are against it?

Is there a law that is precluding the state regulators from getting together and agreeing on policy language now?

Let’s see if you are able to answer questions directly.

Nope. Mandates are UN-Constitutional, and the proof of that is Chief Justice Roberts interpretation of the ACA as a ‘tax’.

The repeal WILL have a subsequent replacement.

Further, ‘replacements’ WERE brought up, but were ‘rejected’ by Congressional Dems and potential Obama vetoes.

Further, details of suggested replacements were ignored by the LIBERAL Main Stream Media. But that will no longer be the case after Wikileaks outed the LMSM, and Twitter enabled the truth to get to The People.

The mandate you referenced is akin to a military draft.

If you want to classify it as a mandate across all males of certain ages, so be it. That does not mandate ANYTHING to the whole population of citizens.

The one time purchase of a firearm, rather than a recurring purchase of a good or service, is akin to a TAX.

These schemes were hidden from Dems until now because they would simply be subject to criticism during the campaign as being lies, un-workable, etc, by Dems without ANY support or justification.

Further, if these schemes were previously introduced in Congress, PRIOR TO 11/8/2016, Obama would immediately veto them, leaving the incorrect impression with FOOLISH voters that they would not work in the real world. And the Main Stream Media would support Obama in his vetoes of such replacement schemes.

DePolar, you are exactly correct. Do you remember them running the commercial pushing Granny off the cliff? Who was that goofy Democrat that held up his placard in Congress that famously said – Here is the Republican Plan – DIE!

The ACA plan was a plan to kill Americans by a thousand cuts. That is all we have seen for almost 7 years. It will be refreshing to see a new plan that does not do that.

      Wrong, LIAR!

Congressmen on BOTH sides of the aisle were supportive of lawyers, drug companies, and others.

To blame Republicans alone is disingenuous at best, and lying at face value.

Please NAME the SPECIFIC Republicans who blocked the govt from negotiating with drug cos. NAMES….? Please be sure to INCLUDE ALL NAMES of Congressmen who opposed the bills you theorize about and the numbers of the bills, Senate or House.

            This isn’t normal kiddo.

Like I said before, doing this just encourages the Clinton Alleged assaults, which you don’t put up with. Don’t like it, don’t dish it out. That’s why I don’t use these types of concepts.

Yep, Bill is a scumbag of a husband, that’s for darn sure. Now, back to the world of relevance, why did Drumpf take for his third wife a lesbian, or at least a bisexual?

Picture Melania in a nude girl-on-girl photo. Oh, wait, you don’t have to imagine that, you can just Google it. There she is, PFLOTUS, Plagiarizing First Lady??? of The US, in all of her glory on top of another girl in all her glory. I thought most conservatives were against gay people and their signs of affection, no?

    FFA,
I don’t have issues with anyone being LGBTQ. My point is most conservatives do, and they don’t seem to be too upset with Milania and her behavior. I thought for sure conservatives would be sticking to their principles and calling her out. Instead, they’re more than willing to stick the taxpayers with a $1M a day bill so she doesn’t have to go sit in the White House.

Your post seems to be a bit Hypocritical.

And why does anyone really cares about what she does. Its her life. She gets to live it.

Its unbelievable its even a topic of conversation.Or maybe I should say its a sad commentary that it is even a topic of conversation.

Hillary lost. This is the way it is for the next 4 years. get over it. Soon as he kicks Obama Care, I dont care what else he does. I’ll lay money down its the premium notices that swayed the Undecideds.

        FFA,
I have been on record saying Drumpf is our President. I have not called for a recount or even replied to anyone suggesting one should happen. But, I’m going to be critical of Drumpf and all of his hypocrisy, which is shining ever so brightly. He rips on someone for delivering speeches to Goldman Sachs and then puts two of them in his cabinet. He has a white nationalist in his KKKabinet and a known racist who Reagan’s administration wouldn’t approve. He says drain the swamp and then puts lobbyists and these creatures I just described above into it. His top executive advisers are all white. Or, should I say alt right? He hasn’t released his tax returns. He isn’t going to turn his business ventures over to a blind trust. He said he was going to prosecute HC and won’t. He doesn’t even talk about a wall anymore. He isn’t going to repeal and replace on day one as he said he would. He isn’t going to sue his sexual abuse accusers. The guy is a flipping liar and he sold voters a bill of goods. He is an air pocket in a basketball shoe, a gimmick, a joke, a fraud. I can only hope I am wrong but so far from what he’s actually done, I’m not. And, conservatives who say they are principled are giving this scam artist a free pass. INCLUDING having multiple wives and one whom is either gay or bi (family values is the conservative’s mantra and yet, they never actually elect anyone who has any). Buyer’s remorse to be settling in here shortly and he hasn’t even sworn on the book he calls his favorite but yet cannot even name a single passage from. Shyster in Chief.

FFA, wow, Planet is really screaming in the woods now, right? He seems to forget that the American People have been having buyers remorse from Progressive Socialism for quite a while now. Fire, fire, pants on fire is everything emanating from a liberal Democrat. If we do everything the complete opposite of Obama and Hilliary, this country will right itself, no question about it.

” I can only hope I am wrong but so far from what he’s actually done, I’m not.”

Stock Market rolling right along. Saved them Jobs in Indiana from leaving the country. Told the Govt to not order the $4 bill planes.

Savings jobs. Unnecessary Govt Spending. Sounds like he has had a positive effect so far.

The wall, I expect that to go as far as closing Gitmo did. I dont care about the color of anyones skin as long as they got the job done. Anyone who is going to criticize a person for hiring based on the color of their skin is racist. Any one who complains about the color of someones skin is racist. As long as people point out the color of someones skin, racism will continue.

          People need to stop that.

And who is giving him a free pass? All the FB crap I see. He is under a microscope and anything he does, people will pick apart. So he gave some tax breaks to that plant in Indiana. Guess we will need to cut some free loaders to cover that.

And how do you know what he is / isnt going to do day one? Got a crystal ball?

Let me be clear, I am not a big Trump FAn. I am willing to see what he does before I start slamming him regardless of his personal life. Its his, he is entitled to have it. So far, it all looks positive from where I sit.

And oh, by the way, Obama Care made Trump Necessary. Lying politicians like OBama made Trump Necessary. People fed up with same old same old voted for hope and positive change. Lying politicians made him necessary. Everyone of them regardless of what side of the isle they sit on.

Good one FFA. One of your longer posts. Of course, it is nothing compared to Bob, the arch nemesis of Liberals. Hilliary spent millions padding her vote in Chicago, NY and other big cities and ignored the rest of the country. The Commie mayor in NY is offering counseling to all the sore losers there. The Demoncrats completely misjudged the American People because they believed the corrupt media. Let them stew in their own juices. I, for one will be looking forward to seeing good governance from Trump and his new cabinet. Jobs will be created at an unprecedented rate and the offshore money will be re-patriated creating even more jobs and investment in the country. A great economy will cure a lot of ills in this greatest country ever created. It will take a lot of unwinding from what Obama did to us, but it will happen.

Now I see a post on FB – who knows if its true or not – that IBM will be adding some 25000 jobs. I saw a different company is adding 10000 jobs. If it is true, certain people will still find something to complain about.

You are correct about IBM adding 25,000 jobs and they will be good jobs, not burger flipping jobs. Also, Softbank is investing $50 Billion with a B and creating 50,000 jobs. Think any of those freeloaders drawing fake disability will apply???? Think any of those college kids majoring in the Arts are qualified? Perhaps when Trump gets rid of Common Core, the education will improve. They also need to be taught about this great country and its history in a mandatory Civics, Government class. It is amazing how stupid young people are these days. Hilliary told them we have a Democracy when it is a Republic. Many believed her.
