As an environmental professional with decades of experience in assessing risks to health, life and property from ongoing and past industrial operations, I am appalled that the Trump administration is proposing to zero out the budget for this vital agency. The Chemical Safety Board (CSB)serves a function analogous in large part to that played by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), an independent federal agency that investigates and reports on aviation accidents and incidents, certain types of highway crashes, ship and marine accidents, pipeline incidents, railroad accidents, and cases of hazardous materials releases that occur during transportation. These independent agencies investigate, respectively, the causes of major chemical-related industrial accidents or fatal or otherwise disastrous transportation-related incidents and prescribe means to avoid recurrences. Their work, often inadequately understood and appreciated by the general public is essential to prevention of recurrence of such tragic, often deadly events. Eliminating the minuscule budget that suports the work of the CSB will inevitably result in losses of life and property that otherwise could have been prevented. It is irresponsibility of the utmost sort to eliminate this critical independent agency under an insupportable rubric of fiscal responsibility.

If we don’t get rid of the CSB, Meals on Wheels, and the National Endowment for the Arts, then how are we going to pay $3,000,000 for Trump to visit his own resort every weekend or $400,000 per day so his wife doesn’t have to live in the same state?

ExciteBiker, you must be watching fake news. He’s not visiting his resort or playing golf. He said on the campaign trail he’d be “too busy to leave the white house”. And I for one take that literally! Of course if he did sneak out of the white house and head down to Palm Beach, it was only to help sell some new memberships at Del Boca Vista.

Whine all you want. Resistance is futile. The EPA is a soon to be extinct bureaucracy that impinges on progress and economic growth with unnecessary regulations and expensive compliance requirements that have been ineffective – other than to depress economic expansion.

      Polar,

I am going to post this everyone I see you post until you respond.

      Polar,

For a moment I am choosing to disregard any malice/annoyance I may feel toward you and do my best to understand your plight. You want me to be wrong regarding Trump/Russian collusion because if I am right you will certainly feel a great deal of regret/remorse. If I am right…well, Trump is not only the worst President to ever lead our country but perhaps one of the worst politicians to ever exist. If I am right everything you have been fighting for will have been in vain.

I ask you to consider this, though. What if I am right? What if the stories are true? What if Trump did lie and continues to lie? Let us not disagree further regarding the facts but instead ponder the possibility of me being right and you wrong. What if I am I right? What then? What happens if I am right, Polar? I ask this sincerely. If I am wrong I will apologize for spreading what turned out to be false information. What happens if you are wrong?

Classic logic flaw…. internet pledges carry no obligation by those who initiate them for the purpose of criticizing those who aren’t dumb enough to get involved.

          Proof/ explanation:

          a. Challenger is ultimately wrong or loses the bet. Challenger ignores the responsibility in the pledge and changes screen name to avoid further humiliation.

          b. Challenger is right. Challenged is obligated to fulfill the pledge.

          c. Challenged doesn’t fall for the “NO-WIN” situation involved in an internet pledge/ bet. Challenged doesn’t accept the internet pledge / bet. Challenger calls the challenged a coward, says it proves his / her point, etc.

It’s clear you’re butt hurt by past humiliation as you are now ‘stalking’ me on this website with your cut-n-paste challenge on EVERY comment page I may visit. Yes, butt hurt about being wrong on many past discussions / events. And butt hurt about being suspended from IJ for your past misbehavior on this site, and your use of BOTs for multi-down-voting conservatives posts to censor what you cannot refute / rebut.

I’m glad to see Trump keep his promise to reduce government wasteful spending. While yes, safety is important, safety is common sense though. But they’re getting paid to tell people, hey don’t put a trailer with people living in it next to a plant. Duh….. and we’re paying 11,000,000 for that?

$11 million is cheap to protect Americans. On the other hand, there are 100 Secret Service members in Aspen that accompanied Jared and Ivanka, as well as Donald Jr. for a spring break trip. That is on top of the expenses to accompany Eric for a business trip to Uruguay.

This is on top of full time Secret Service protection in Washington, DC, New York City and Palm Beach, FL.

      Not money well spent.

Not well spent at all. Some protocol is a waste and should be abandoned. They don’t need 100 Secret Service Members to watch over those 3….and the cost of the trips Trump takes to Florida almost every weekend is costing us millions. He sure is NOT staying in the White House like he said he would.

        @Celtica:

Name the 100 Secret Service Agents in Aspen.

Can’t? Are they ‘undocumented’? If so, how do you know they are Secret Service Agents and are being paid by the US Government?

Why did 100 Secret Service Agents go to Aspen? Why not 105? Why not 95? Who determined it must be 100? Why is that number a rounded number, instead of 106, which might be a sum of Secret Service Agent counts needed for specific security tasks?

When Libitterals lie about something it is exaggerated with high levels of hyperbole to sell their agenda…. which WOULD NOT SELL well with the public if the TRUTH were told.

I’ll return here to see your replies. I expect no reply…. due to lies embedded in the story on Libitterals webpages…. e.g. Huff & Puff POSt, or that which was reported by Lyin’ Brian Williams on MSNBC, or by Raging Madcow – MSNBC’s version of Heraldo Rivera.

Not only can’t Celtica and her minions NOT name any Secret Service Agents in Aspen, but they can’t even post a reply with their screen name.

They can only down vote and run away like cowards because they have been called out on their FAKE NEWS of 100 SSA’s in Aspen to protect the Trump family members.

Further, restricting the right to travel for whatever purpose, of family members of the POTUS, is akin to imprisonment / restriction of freedom. Libitterals only have such tactics now to resist the Will of The People.

        Dear PolarBearTrumpFail,

Part of being secret service is being secret so no names will be forthcoming. In Aspen this week are 3 of Trump’s children (guess Tiffany is not in the inner circle of siblings), 3 spouses and 8 grand children — so 14 Trumpets in one location. So 100 secret service is not outside the realm of possibility.

        https://www.yahoo.com/news/aspen-ruined-claim-skiers-trump-162100869.htmlz

And last weekend three of the President’s children, Donald Trump Junior, Ivanka Trump and Eric Trump, along with Donald Jr and Eric’s wives and the eight Trump grandchildren arrived for a one-week stay.

They want to cut things while the entire Trump family is racking up millions of dollars in travel/security expenses. Trump now wins the titles of Vacationer-in-Chief and Golfer-in-Chief. When his sons and daughter travel, for leisure and for their businesses, we the taxpayers have to foot the bill for their security. For what it will ultimately cost to protect Melania and Baron through May in New York, Meals on Wheels could be funded for 7 years. I can imagine the Republican outrage if Michele Obama and the daughters would have maintained a separate residence.

The Trump family is constantly funneling our tax dollars into their own pockets. They are just like the Romanov’s.
