How about this analogy: “I rented a home, knew we were responsible to pay the electric bills, but I refuse to pay those bills in hopes my landlord will renegotiate our lease and put up solar panels”?

Wrong. Congress NEVER approved the payments. Your ignorance of The US Constitution and workings of the 3 Branches of Government is staggering. Congress holds the purse strings. If that’s confusing, stop making silly posts and read the US Constitution and Amendments thereto.

How about you read the US Constitution & the amendments thereto, and especially read the preamble which states the purposes of government,— especially one that states that one of the foremost purposes of government is to “provide for the general welfare of the people”, which inherently includes health care. If a person is dying of brain cancer, he couldn’t give a big crap about defense “needs” that drained billions of dollars from the budget so that a “Wag The Dog” president could spend that same money to distract from his evil predations.

George Lee – Really?? General welfare of the people? How broad is that statement? Inherently includes healthcare?? Are you daft or just making this crap up?

So, I guess you think the government should provide everyone with a house, car, TV, phones, food, etc?

Where does it end and who is going to pay for it all?

I suggest you read all the Madison letters and other documents that provide the intent and thoughts of our forefathers. The government was designed to be a LIMITED government. The “general welfare” statement pertains to the government doing things for the people that they cannot do for themselves, meaning infrastructure and defense of the nation.

The Constitution doesn’t include many specific acts by design. You may have read the Constitution (I think that’s a lie) but there’s no doubt you didn’t, and cannot, comprehend it, nor did you look into it further. The General Welfare clause is mentioned twice, one saying government has the responsibility to provide it, and one saying it has the power to collect taxes to do so. It mentions the press, in the freedom of the press Amendment, but does not mention industries, professions, etc. generally, because it is intended to be broad, and doing so would limit it in the future.

If you want to argue health does not pertain to the general welfare of the country or the people I would love to hear it, but I bet you don’t, and instead you want to post useless, whining, idiotic, drivel.

Funny how you deny this because it’s not specifically mentioned, and also deny the right of government to regulate guns when that is explicitly called for. It’s almost like you are an inconsistent rube who can’t think beyond his own small world, preferences and ideology, and dismisses literally every single thing that contradicts those things.

UW – I don’t want to sound mean, but, your responses lately are so off base that it makes you sound so incredibly clueless. Who are you getting your information from? The handwriting is absolutely on the wall and the death spiral has already begun. (FYI…this was the original intent behind Obamacare so that single payer, govt run healthcare takes over).

Fact: Congress controls the purse strings and determines what is supposed to be paid via the budget.

If the budget included allocations to pay the health insurers, then they should get paid. If not, special appropriations must be voted on by Congress to approve payment.

My concern is that NOT paying them will escalate the death spiral quicker and we will be forced into govt run healthcare.

The Republicans better come up with a GOOD replacement plan and soon. The midterm elections will only create greater gridlock and obstructionism if Republicans loses the majority in either house.

AND…if you think the democrats are loading the media up with BS now, it will be 10 times worse if they actually have any power.

Integrity, with all due respect, for comments have made you sound like a clueless person for months. A death spiral is an actual thing. Arguably the US system was in one before Obamacare. Shrinking enrollment, healthy people leaving the system, and rising premiums are needed for a death spiral. The latest numbers show only slightly lower enrollment than last year, but the same as at the same point last year. Federal tax credits largely shield people on Obamacare from the rising premiums so they aren’t leaving due to that. I know as a conservative this can’t exist as a fact to you, but it is. The subsidies cap premium prices at a percentage of income for most in the plan. The data shows no real increase in healthy people leaving the risk pool. No death spiral. The only reason there will be one is because Republicans want one and create one.

The CBO, Washington/NY Times, Politico, Politifact, and many others have shown it’s not in a death spiral, but the dumbest of the dumb insist it is. Now who will I believe, birthers and climate change deniers who work in insurance only as salespeople, or actual quantitative analysis and people who actually work in measuring risk? Real tough one, genius.

Yeah, $16 million to kill 36 ISIS members, and that’s from the administration so the number is probably cost to 5.

This does nothing except create more terrorists and help ISIS recruit. Doing nothing would be better. Trump is the best thing to happen to radical Islam since the invasion of Iraq.

You can make all sorts of stupid lie claims you want, and even enlist the help of well-known liars like BOTH Clintons, Obama, RiceSusan-Hacked-the-2012-Election, and Eric Holder.
But you won’t convince anyone that killing terrorists helps enlist more of them…

The Democrats own Obamacare. It’s a total screw up. Ten years of funding for 8 years of coverage. Terrible assumptions about the take up rate. Lies to sell it to all of us. As Jonathan Gruber stated it relied on the stupidity of the American voter to get passed. It will blow up on it’s own accord. Politically, Trump should let it sink under it’s own weight, but unlike his predecessor, he actually cares about this country and the people in it. The Democrats should embrace anything that makes it better (not perfect) or take the heat for it blowing up. All Trump wants to do is hasten the blowing up so it can be fixed sooner. But then again, the Democrats don’t care about the country or the people in it, they care about politics and retaining power.

The few, brave republicans that opposed the replacement piece of crap deserve a standing ovation by every citizen in this country for not settling on Obamacare lite.

Any Congress person that agrees simply because that is what their “party” thinks is a blind sheep. We’ve witnessed that for the past 8 years with Obama’s tenure. If Republicans are arguing among themselves, it’s because they actually care about the people of this country.

It’s a shame that the liberal’s can’t figure this out on their own, even when they see that they are being lied to by the democrats.

Agree that Obamacare did not work but the health system has had problems for a very long time – increasing costs, billing nightmares that the patient has zero control over, and exclusions for pre-existing conditions just to name a few. As an American here is what I want: I want to see the version of the healthcare plan that President Trump promoted during the campaign. The one that is “a lot less expensive”, “something terrific”, and that is for “everybody”. If he could rollout this plan in Phase 1 then any politician would be an idiot not to support it.

““I’m getting to it, don’t worry,” the media mogul said. “On the first day of presidency, on my very first day I plan to repeal Obamacare so hard that it’ll make his ancestors in Africa shiver with awe. I mean, I am going to take that piece of legislation and wipe my a** with it. That’s how much I dislike Obamacare and what I think about it. By the way, that’s also how I feel about Ted Cruz, but that’s not the point right now,” Trump said jokingly, causing Stephanopoulos to laugh.
“Seriously though,” the billionaire businessman continued, “that’s what I plan on doing. And then first thing in the morning on day two, I’m going to replace it with a much better service that’s genuinely going to take care of every poor person in the United States. I’m talking daily food rations, clean clothes, a place to spend the night, possibly new jobs, it’s all going to be awesome, it’s going to be utopia. I’m going to make it so good that people are going to want to become homeless just to qualify for Trumpcare. And by the way, that’s what I’m going to call it. A huge, flashy neon sign is going to be placed above the entrance to every Trumpcare facility across the country. I want people to know who made it possible for them to have a better life.”

We will have a new bill based on free market principles, the taxes and mandates will go and people will have a choice again instead of a government making the choice for them. Progressive Socialism is a massive failure.

By the way, the new POTUS put the hammer down again with that MOAB bomb on ISIS. Sounds like a good strategy. Oblama had that weapon his whole two terms and was too much of a Wuss to use it and never had a strategy to defeat ISIS.

This is more than just letting Obamacare fail and has been in the making for years. All President Trump needs to do is drop the Federal Court appeal to a court ruling Obama illegally funded Obamacare by using the Net Worth Sweep of Government sponsored entities Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, funds that were not appropriated by Congress. Once that case is dropped the ruling stands and President Trump is legally required to let Obamacare fail, which should have happened years ago. This is not a negotiation ploy, this is rightfully exposing a prior administration’s massive corruption. Check the max stock history of Fannie Mae (FNMA) Freddie Mac (FMCC) after the bailout. These companies have been artificially kept on life support while others have mostly recovered. Interesting that AIG is exactly the same financially. Follow the Money.

Good, succinct summary (bear paw applause)!

The goal of ACA’s architects was a single payer system, and there are video tapes of BOTH Obama and Hillary stating such an objective. Both of them were so arrogant to assume Hillary would win the POTUS. Wrong! Fail!

Well, why am I surprised that our President would want to withhold payment? Sounds like what he did to several small contractors who used their backs & sweat to build his golden towers and resorts. this is ridiculous, immature and irresponsible. Grow up.

Our elected officials need to focus on the overall health of our country, our citizens deserve some basic healthcare (and yes basic healthcare includes women having babies, babies are our future)- any of us that are actually in insurance would have had to realize that finally providing some health insurance to millions of people that have not had it would result in a bounce in usage.

We need to stop thinking about which party wants what and focus on the actual health of our country and not just its financial health. Our future generations deserve that. Our politicians need to put their personal agendas to the side and do what is best for OUR COUNTRY and OUR PEOPLE.

Maybe instead of limiting insurance and care or letting something fail, we should focus on what is causing our communities to be so sick – like cigarettes! Why are these cancer sticks still legal? Maybe our tax and other systems need to be reformed to reward healthy lifestyles.

@Carla; please SHOW US THE US CONGRESS APPROVAL of the subject payments.

Search “Ryan requests US Treasury answer questions on payments made to health insurers without Congress’ approval; February 2015.”

Anyone who claims the payments were authorized by Congress is a bald-faced liar.

There are QUITE A FEW IGNORANT posters here criticizing TrumPresident without knowing the payments require, but did not receive, Congressional approval.

Paul Ryan sent a letter to the US Treasury, circa February 2015, seeking an answer as to why it sent payments of $3.2B to health insurers WITHOUT Congressional approval. The US Treasury never replied to Ryan. They are now in deep doo-doo with the Republican Congress and TrumPresident, and Obama can’t defend them any longer.

Gorsuch this year, and a Conservative replacement for Ginsberg in a year or two will make the SCOTUS 6-3, likely for at least another generation. Without ILLEGAL ALIEN voters in the US, and liberals having an empty bench, the US will shift toward conservatism for at least a few generations, if not longer. Liberals will flee to Europe.

I think not. Venezuela won’t let them in; they have immigration standards, you know! The US has immigration standards / laws, too! We just haven’t enforced them over the last 8 – 20 years, but are beginning to do so now, with great results thus far, and much better results expected in the future.

As far as where the Libitterals will migrate, I think they’ll head for NY City or CA and turn that city and state into Venezuelas of the North American continent. Adios, gringos!

I kind of like those 60% reductions in border crossings and we don’t even have the wall built yet. Should go down to 90% when we get that wall up and we can keep sending the thugs back and then keep them from coming back. MAGA.

It was like a merry-go-round ride when Socialist POTUS Obama was in office. Here forward, it’ll be a one-way ticket, with no first class accommodations.

TrumPresident needs to do the same with members of Obama’s Shadow Government still in their jobs in DC. Drain the DC Shadow Govt Swamp!

No one really needs to fall on a sword for their leader, Obama.

But the Dem party will suffer the consequences for many decades when Republicans point out the failures of the Dems and the Shadow Govt actions that they took in 2016-17.

More important, SCOTUS will turn to a 6-3 Conservative majority in a few years. That will be a result of US citizens seeing the dangers of Socialism, Terrorism, and Communism, and rejecting all 3 of those ideas when they go to their polling places each November henceforth.
