“Like going back to the failed free market, plus high-risk pools approach to health care?”

The free market was not failed. You mean going to the hyper regulated market post 1960.

Laser eye surgery went down in cost when the free market was allowed to handle it. I already showed you that since 1960 when we highly regulated the market, costs suddenly exploded. We have not had a free market since the early 1900’s for healthcare, and at that point, costs were not skyrocketing. We have better technology now which should allow us to have even better costs. The problem is not the free market.

You said you were in your mid 40’s, (because you said you voted in an election which would require you to be that old) yet you argue like this. No older man argues like this against the free market. This makes me really question how much of what you say here is lies for your image.

Are you willing to admit you’re not in your 40’s? I might give you your credit back if you do.

Leave it to SOME IJ writers to weave the environment, immigration issues into an article about INSURANCE on an INSURANCE website. The only worthwhile part of this article is the top section, which includes some FACTS about the particular AGs in CA, NY, etc. trying to INTERFERE WITH THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE – – – who oppose ACA and want it gone, ASAP!

Subsidies imposed on a permanent basis can only disrupt market equilibrium, and, if left in place, cause a market death spiral.

Economics textbooks in unbiased universities in the next decade will point to ACA, its subsidies, 2000+ exemptions, and 29 hour work week rules as a classic example of such market disruption and failure.

some years ago we had a terrible auto insurance market here in NJ. super regulated. then a couple of the very few remaining writers were gearing to leave. Then geico appeared (and I bet they told NJ to approve their exit first if things didn’t work out). Then they backed way off and NJ has a super competitive auto market….rates are still high but competition is fierce.

No such luck here. The powers that be still believe single payer (which is what they want) will fix all that. Just like the V.A.

Despite the problems with the VA, it is much better than the private sector. You have a much better chance of dying in a private sector hospital than in a VA hospital.

Patients dying because they aren’t treated in a timely manner is NOT better than the private sector approach… where patients can change hospitals or healthcare providers if they aren’t being treated promptly. The VA is a monopolistic system, as would be a Single Payer approach.

Thanks for the softball pitch to hit out of the park.

Polar, I have two great friends who are veterans who almost died because of the extremely poor treatment they received at the VA in Shreveport. They both left and got the good treatment at private hospitals and are both now healthy. By the way, our new POTUS just fired the director of the Shreveport VA. He was there much too long.

2, it just came out that California wants Single Payer. After running numbers, it will only cost them $400 Billion to do it. Are they going to print their own money to pay for it? Ron thinks Single Payer is a great deal and would save money. Oops!

        1. Population of CA – ~40 million
        2. Cost of Single Payer – ~$400 Billion
        3. Cost per person – ~$10,000
        4. Most recent health care cost per person in U.S. – ~$10,000 (http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/new-peak-us-health-care-spending-10345-per-person/)

So, at no additional cost per person:
        1. Everyone is covered.
        2. Pre-existing conditions issue is addressed
        3. No in-network, out-of-network crap
        4. No more government administered health care (Medicaid, Medicare or VA that are constantly criticized by the right)
        5. Employers no longer need to administer this benefit.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me and any other open-minded, rational person.

So essentially give away a $10,000 per year per person benefit, and don’t bring down the cost of insurance which is borderline unaffordable currently, and spread the cost all around. Also, work off a projection. Considering how far off projections have been, I’m not trusting this projection.

          Good idea. Or not.

The free market would allow costs to come down, if put back to how it should be. A benefit then to those who cannot afford it is fair, and allows both systems.

You are literally advocating not just to make insurance affordable as you word it, but to REMOVE competition, and to remove all other payers but one.

          I will ask you this:

What is wrong with a combo of a deregulated OPTION for healthcare insurance, along with a minimal provision for this who cannot afford it?

You want to destroy the whole insurance industry…Why? I need a good explanation as to why competition shouldn’t be allowed, period. That’s what you’re advocating for. Single payer removes this. There is no scenario in which single payer for the whole system make sense to anyone in the insurance industry. What role do you fill here?

    Excerpted:

It’s a form of government rationing because budget restrictions create a shortage for everyone in the system, resulting in waiting lists that some patients never get off. Their citizens mostly accept that for non-emergencies because fortunately, as in the US, most people don’t require sophisticated or advanced medical care. When they cannot accept it, they leave the system and fund their own private healthcare.

Only 16 states have Dem Governors, thus the opening sentence referring to ‘over a dozen states AGs…’.

They are contradicting THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE regarding the failed ACA.

The other 34 AGs are complying with what the voters ‘instructed politicians to do’ on 11/8/16.
