A “reasonable” settlement. Just don’t have them pay anything, stop pretending to do anything.

$1 a person, what’s the point, other than to enrich the lawyers? I think the people would rather see them spend the $$$ to fix their systems and protect our data than to get $1.

The point is to have a settlement on the books so they can’t face future punishment.

How about changing the default to a credit freeze? Make them contact you, the owner of the information to get permission to allow a possible creditor to view it. PIA for them? TFB

As someone who’s credit information may have been compromised, I went through much time and effort to freeze my credit with all three credit bureaus. Each has different procedures and requirements, and if you are under 65 a fee is involved. At the very least, Equifax should have offered to freeze not only their, but the other two at no cost to the innocent consumer.
