Darwin Professional Underwriters Inc. (Darwin) announced approval by the Oklahoma Department of Insurance of Platte River Insurance Company to write hospital professional liability coverage on an admitted basis in Oklahoma.
Darwin is now accepting applications for insurance coverage with limits of liability up to $10 million for policy effective dates of July 1, 2004 and later. Applications must be submitted through a Darwin-approved agent or broker licensed to do business in the State of Oklahoma.
“Darwin’s health care team has been monitoring the Oklahoma marketplace for some time and we believe now is the right time to bring a meaningful alternative to health care facilities in the state,” said Paul Romano, senior vice president, health care at Darwin. “Darwin offers expertise and capabilities that we believe respond to the broad needs of hospital facilities in Oklahoma, and we recognize that hospitals are faced with the difficult situation of finding a long-term, secure insurance partnership.”
Darwin (www.darwinpro.com) and Platte River are both subsidiaries of Alleghany Insurance Holdings LLC, whose parent company, Alleghany Corporation, is publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange (ticker symbol ‘Y’). Hospital professional liability coverage is issued on Platte River Insurance Company paper.
