The Galveston Gulf Coast Insurance Board recently elected new Board members to lead the organization for 2004-2005.
Carolyn Wagner, who has been a member of the organization since 1990 as a representative for MaximInsurance, was elected president. Other officers include: Vice President Leah Calloway with Truman Taylor Insurance; Secretary Mike Tarlton with Texas Affordable Insurance; and Treasurer Gigi Heffernan with Heffernan Insurance Agency.
“MaximInsurance encourages its employees to stay active in the insurance community,” said Debbie Hagerty, vice president of MaximInsurance, who also serves as publicity chairman for the Galveston Gulf Coast Insurance Board. “It’s important to stay involved as leaders in the industry, in order to keep abreast of current issues, trends and product developments, as well as take an active role in future legislation.”
The Galveston Gulf Coast Insurance Board is comprised of two organizations that merged in 2003 – the Gulf Coast Insurance Agents and the Galveston Insurance Board, and has 19 agency members and additional associate members. The group was formed to give agents in the Galveston County area leverage and credibility with the Texas Department of Insurance on issues prevalent to the local community, including floods, hurricanes and windstorms.
The Galveston Gulf Coast Insurance Board is actively involved in the community, sponsoring events like Fire Prevention Week and hosting frequent continuing education classes on insurance issues.
The Galveston Insurance Board was incorporated in 1924 and recently celebrated its 150th anniversary.
