MHBT, Fireman’s Fund Award $13K to Texas Fire Department

Dallas-based independent insurance agency McQueary Henry Bowles Troy L.L.P. (MHBT) and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company awarded the Fairview (Texas) Fire Department a $13,370 grant to purchase a specialized air compressor used to fill large air tanks, called “cascade” tanks, which firefighters use to replenish their individual air tanks and to power highly sophisticated rescue equipment.

The new compressor will also be used by four fire departments surrounding Fairview and will benefit over 125 firefighters in the area, along with the thousands of residents that they serve.

Fairview is located about 20 miles north of Dallas.

The Fairview Fire Department will save time and valuable resources by having a dedicated compressor at the station. Prior to the new air compressor, the department had to use the department’s only heavy rescue truck to transport all cascade tanks that needed to be replenished. On average, the roundtrip would take up to three hours to fill all tanks. With the new compressor, the heavy rescue truck will always have a full tank and will not have to be taken out of service to refill the cascade air system.

“This air compressor is a great addition to our fire department because it allows us to have our own means of replenishing our cascade tanks. This is a significant piece of equipment that will expand our ability on both fire scenes and on vehicle accident scenes,” said firefighter/EMT Brian Gardner of the Fairview Fire Department.

In addition to serving as a firefighter and as an emergency medical technician at the Fairview Fire Department, Gardner is a senior vice president of account coordination at McQueary Henry Bowles Troy in Dallas. “It’s especially meaningful to me since I not only work for MHBT, but I also have been associated with the fire and rescue service for over eight years, and stationed at the Fairview Fire Department for six months.”

The grant was funded by Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, which provides grants to fire departments through its Fireman’s Fund Heritage program. Under the program, local insurance agencies like MHBT are able to direct grants to support local fire departments and the communities they serve.
